#DFG: Canceling the Noise

Is there any level of suspension that you would advise Tom to accept?

And what Peter King and Werder are asking isn't laughable. It came across my mind before I thought that may be the Colts' balls had higher PSI pressure to begin with. But this needs to be
explained and shown to most of the people, because it's not intuitively obvious.
The thing is, if the Colts balls didn't drop psi in those weather conditions then they were the ones that underwent human tampering.

Edit: And I'm starting to wonder about that.

Agree, before he couldn't conceive the refs may have not have been diligent.

So which one of you got to work on the My Cousin Vinny Wikipedia? Excellent work whoever it is

Well done, whoever it was:

Hold on a minute: is the claim that the referees measured the air pressure of the footballs during the game, after they had been outside for most of the first half, found that the air pressure was lower, and that this is the evidence of tampering?

Ya but Peter King saw a red use a gauge once 4 years ago so that must be what happened.
I looked at that video to try to figure out the gauge type so you could get the accuracy, looked like a cheapie

My thanks to all the SoSH folks who posted links to facts and data so that the rest of us could slowly piece together the most plausible scenario. A scenario that did NOT involve malfeasance of any kind, and one which matched almost exactly the process Bill laid out for the world today. The only thing we missed was the pre-measurement effects of ball prep (a PSI increase due to friction from rubbing). Congrats guys. SoSH nailed this long before the rest of the world was smacked in the head with it.

That's been the charge all week.

The argument rested on the notion that only a
human can lower air pressure.

Maybe the Colts balls were overinflated before the game started. Why is it that the Patriots tampering with the balls is the only option for these morons?

Riddick is a BB disciple, but he has been great with the whole Rice thing too.

Hmmm who could that team exec be? Hard to guess from a list of 31.

The Pats were proactive in trying to explain how that shit could have happened without human interference. A reasonable, well thought out response was given. If you disagree, show your work, otherwise you're just a salty dipshit.

I think everyone pretty much agreed that the temp/conditions would lower the pressure it was just how much.

Nobody here came up with almost 2 lbs PSI. IRC, 1.4-1.6 was the max from all the calculations which is about what BB saw. The idea was also thrown around that they possibly do something like raise the temp of the ball to increase temp.

It was the extra approx 1lb of PSI difference that was questioned. He explained that with whatever prep work they do.

Good post, and echoed here.  I know this is a smart sports forum....some emotions with lots of analysis and data covering just about everything imaginable.  Heck, late last night (early morning) we even had antimatter talk.  Where else can you find that?  Best place for sports knowledge I've found.  Thanks.

With all of this, I'm sure this team is wishing the game was tomorrow; they must be so pumped to play for this coach.

This whole "blame the media" routine from some Pats fans is laughable. There's a real investigation going on, sparked by a sting operation.

Dumbest part -- to assume there was a "sting operation". No proof, no evidence. Florio is seriously the smuggest douche around.

OK, sorry to get personal here in a moment of pure joy. But I need to say:

I was wrong in my assumptions about what probably happened. I was wrong in what I posted more than once last night about this shit show. I am sorry I ever doubted Tom and the ball boys. I gave way too much credibility to the NFL and to the Refs. I am sorry.

I wish I could enjoy this moment as much as those who never flinched in their steadfastness. instead, for me, it is only fucking awesome. Belichick just crushed this shit for all but the biggest tin hats, which is going to be like half of America.

How many of the Colt balls actually got used in the first half? The half time was what in this game a bit longer than 15 minutes, did they measure the Patriot balls first giving the Colt balls a chance to warm up more? Were the Colt balls filled to 13.5 psi? The Colt balls were supposed to be within guidelines but were they down from their initial measurement? Were they ever measured at all prior to the game? Peter King there are all kinds of possible explanations.

It's all about proof.  They've put forward an explanation that explains the evidence we are aware of without there being any team malfeasance.  If someone (NFL, presumably) can come up with a better explanation of team malfeasance...Pats will be punished severly.  But you gotta have the facts, too....and right now their aren't enough to do much here.

Still waiting for the media outrage over the refs- how they did their jobs and why we're not allowed to hear from them since they're in charge of the balls. Where is that outrage? Anyone? Hello?

Especially when we find out the refs re-inflated the same 12 balls and used them for the game, killing any chance of re-examining them. Evidence gone, making it almost impossible to prove.

And not coincidentally, Bill raised the bar for them. That report, whatever it looks like, better contain a shitload of science and testing or it's going to look weak and pale in comparison to what the Pats did. Because you can bet that Bill & company wrote the whole thing up and presented it to the NFL.

One other interesting thing. During the press conference he more than implied that the Pats procedures would withstand thorough scrutiny, but perhaps not so much those of others (looking straight at you Mr. Rodgers and your admission that the Packers deliberately overinflate footballs prior to inspection).
