I guess the only difference is that the Twins gave him a physical last year and were okay with it. Plus, 6/200 guaranteed is far less than the 13/315 the Mets ponied upI mean....is the physical for the Twins going to show anything different than what his last 3 other physicals have shown?
So the drama may not be over? Wonderful."pending a physical." ummmm..... yeah about that.
The agreement includes a vesting option that can add another four years to the deal and will become official if Correa passes a medical review, which is expected to begin Tuesday and continue through Wednesday, according to sources.
The opt-out is interesting.... I can't imagine he'll ever get any offers after that 6 or 7 year contract expires for more than 1 and done types. That to me also suggests he and Boras know that he's on limited time before he can't move any longerSo the drama may not be over? Wonderful.
That's an interestingly constructed deal. 6/200 or 10/270 if all goes well. So something of an overpay in the short-term, but a massive bargain if he stays healthy and plays well.
Where are you getting this?Sounds like physical is basically already done. Ankle is not an issue to Twins.
With Boras involved, is there any doubt they were given the opportunity to do so?Don't you think the Giants or Mets would have done that deal?
Can you post a link or a tweet or something? That's standard protocol in news threads like this.Heyman
Okay ... it's always helpful to post the tweet/sourceHeyman
I would think so. Maybe Correa himself finally got tired of it all.Don't you think the Giants or Mets would have done that deal?
Why is everyone only thinking ankle? Could there be more to it that isn’t available to to privacy? Like a bad back?Don't you think the Giants or Mets would have done that deal?
I feel awful for the guy about to make $33M a year. What a disaster this winter has been for Correa
(Yeah, I know)
Given that we now have three teams (Astros last year; Giants and Mets this year) who have looked at Correa’s MRI and wouldn’t give him the mega-deal he sought, I’m going to say that the odds he is in a position to score big in 6 years are slim.Given salary inflation rates in MLB, he might well end up making more than the Mets contract would have paid him. If he plays out the 6 years @ $33M, he'd only have to play another 6 years at a total of $115M (= ~$19.2M / yr) to match the Mets deal, if indeed it was to be 12 years / $315M. Framed as a "bet on himself", it's possible he might even prefer this deal to a fully-guaranteed one on the Mets' numbers.
If he wins a "bet on himself" scenario, he'll trigger the vesting options with the Twins and ultimately end up with 10/270M. That would leave him only two years, his age 38-39 seasons, to get the last $45M to match the Mets deal. Not impossible, but we have seen at least two teams back-pedal on paying him for those years because of his medicals, so I wouldn't bet too much on it.Given salary inflation rates in MLB, he might well end up making more than the Mets contract would have paid him. Rosenthal said an extra two years could vest, not four. Is he wrong? If he wins a "bet on himself" scenario, he'll trigger the vesting options with the Twins and ultimately end up with 10/270M. View: https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/1612863366959173687Correa’s contract is for six guaranteed years and $200M. He can guarantee a seventh year and another $25 million with 502 plate appearances in year six, according a source. Total value can increase to $245M if he gets eighth year. More details to come. Again: Pending physical.
Source confirms: Carlos Correa in agreement with Twins on six-year, $200M contract. Deal can max out at $270M with vesting options for four additional years. Pending physical. First:

Turning into a Greek tragedy at this point."pending a physical." ummmm..... yeah about that.
I don't think that's necessarily contradictory. Passan/ESPN say the deal can max out at 270M via four extra years. Rosenthal says the seventh and eighth years take it to 245M in total salary. Maybe the last two years are worth just 15M?Rosenthal said an extra two years could vest, not four. Is he wrong?
Edit: I see that ESPN said four. I'm confused.
I suppose that's possible. I just posted the two tweets. If that's the case it's pretty sloppy writing.I don't think that's necessarily contradictory. That seems pretty awful for Correa. There are four option years and it does not appear that they are player options. They vest year by year based on Correa reaching certain AB thresholds. If they don't vest, the Twins still hold team options for those seasons.

I assumed that was more or less laid to rest when the Mets leaked their concerns. Why is everyone only thinking ankle? Could there be more to it that isn’t available to to privacy? Like a bad back?
I think it’s very clear the Mets asking for a physical every year means they wanted out. That’s a nonstarter for Correa and Boras.I assumed that was more or less laid to rest when the Mets leaked their concerns.
That contract reflects a huge ding over the initial offerings from everyone else. His foot must be attached with duct tape and staples or something.
Yeaah, I wouldn't be so fast. They still need to get their SP's figured out. They cycle in AA and AAA pitchers like crazy. Everybody besides 5 guys cant hit .250, and their OF is absolute dreck besides Buxton, but he can't even play 100 games. Up here in MN people have nothing left to live for besides fishing, and the twins are the most frustrating team to watch. Sure it gets them 6 more wins on paper but I'm not convinced it gets them to the playoffs even.I think it’s very clear the Mets asking for a physical every year means they wanted out. That’s a nonstarter for Correa and Boras.
Let’s face it. The Mets could have matched the Twins offer with ease. Glad when players get paid but Correa with his Social Media and the jumping in the arms of his agent stuff show the $$$ talks. Being a winner in Minnesota? Please.
MLB talking about Buxton and Correa make the Twins real.
Could be the reporting is lazily conflating AB and PA.Tying the vesting options to ABs instead of PAs seems dumb. The whole set up seems weird & bad for Correa if that Tweet is accurate. His medicals must be gruesome.
That would make a lot more sense considering his career high in ABs is 577.Could be the reporting is lazily conflating AB and PA.
This is super sketchy as there is really no such thing as "passing a physical".From a Mets reporter: the Mets would have required annual physicals after year 6 for further guarantees on a year by year basis.
