9th highest paid coach, #1 recruiting budget, top 10 facilities, 40-38 vs. B1G last 4 years. But, yeah, tough business.
This is why he needed to go.
Edit: And all of his assistants were former head coaches.
Lots of grumbling at Clemson that Brownell may be out. 2.5 hour meeting with AD this morning. No real news other than the coach said it "was productive". But word is they want Will Wade (Clemson alum) and current VCU coach. He interviewed for the NCState job and someone connected to that process said he was going to Clemson. This feels similar to the way DRad replaced the baseball coach. So news on this may be soon.HoopDirt teasing that another Power 5 school will have an opening today.
Love Underwood for his time at SFA. This shocks me.Illinois has hired Oklahoma State’s Brad Underwood, sources told ESPN.
There's the other Power 5 opening.
He's just an idiot. He low balled Underwood and re-neg'd on his promise to renegotiate his deal if he was successful. How he is surprised that this is happening shows he's clueless.Love Underwood for his time at SFA. This shocks me.
The Pokie AD must be a colossal asshole.
Does Boeheim even recruit anymore? Hope that Hopkins took G-Mac or Autry on a few of his road trips to show them the ropes. I don't think this ends well for Boeheim or Syracuse basketball.Boeheim decided he wanted to stay longer. Hopkins tired of waiting. Find with actions of both
Look for a former UMass HC to possibly pop up.Jeff GoodmanVerified account @GoodmanESPN 7m7 minutes ago
LIU-Brooklyn has parted ways with Jack Perri, multiple sources told ESPN.
This is a surprise firing. They won 20 games this season and finished 2nd in the NEC.
He screwed up. He's meeting with the President. Other names in the mix are Vermont coach John Becker, Iona associate HC Jared Grasso, and Xavier associate HC Travis Steele.Adam Zagoria @AdamZagoria 9m9 minutes ago
Villanova's Baker Dunleavy is expected to be the new coach at Quinnipiac, source says.
Well he said "source said." If his source is the prez or AD or HR person he could be right ...He screwed up. He's meeting with the President. Other names in the mix are Vermont coach John Becker, Iona associate HC Jared Grasso, and Xavier associate HC Travis Steele.
OSU Basketball is dead.Goodman says that Oklahoma State is interviewing Doug Gottlieb tomorrow. I can't believe he was considered for this job once let alone twice.

Why isn't TBP bankrolling the program like Knight at O? Only likes fb?OSU Basketball is dead.
I'd have conflicting feelings over this as a RI native and Georgetown alum, but Danny Hurley makes sense.JT3 is out at Georgetown. This is pretty remarkable given that they just opened a new athletic center after his father.
Without looking at current contracts, and assuming that doesn't matter because there's no buyout that Gtown won't buy, the first two names that came to my mind were Hurley and Archie Miller. Not a lot of HC's who are considered hot names at the sub power 5 level right nowI'd have conflicting feelings over this as a RI native and Georgetown alum, but Danny Hurley makes sense.
As a fellow alum (Hoya Saxa, man) I couldn't be happier. I was there during the doldrums of the Craig Esherick era and a Final Four with JT3 shortly after graduating gave me hope of the program rebounding. They then proceeded to puke on their sneakers every year. I wanted him to succeed as well and it seemed like he would, but end of day he didn't. And it was going downhill.I have heard the buzz about Ewing as well. I don't know that he would necessarily want to take on the responsibility of being a head coach. He made a boatload during his career and can now keep a hand in the game without having to be the point person. I am not saying he couldn't do it, just that it may not be what he wants to do.
I also agree that college is completely a completely different from the pros. Recruiting has always been an essential element but it never seems to end. At least in the NBA you can focus on the Xs and Os and managing the personalities of your team while letting the GM keep an eye out for what needs to happen 3 or 6 months from now in terms of roster composition/construction.
As an alum, I disappointed because I liked JT3 and wanted him to succeed, but the program has been steadily going downhill and he doesn't seem to have an idea how to change its direction. Aside from the poor performance over the last two years, my guess is that the top recruit asking to be let out of his letter of commitment was the straw that broke the camel's back.
Would they? My guess is most high school kids have no idea who he is. I guess maybe the parents could be star struck, but has Chris Mullin been lighting up the recruiting trail at St John's?Kids would swarm to go play for Ewing at gtown.
Swarm may be too strong a word, but I'd wager most kids would know who Patrick Ewing is before they'd know who Chris Mullin is. I also can't remember when the last time St John's was relevant.Would they? My guess is most high school kids have no idea who he is. Yea I'm sorry. I love Underwood, he was going to take you guys to a championship level.OSU Basketball is dead.
Well Mullin is also a Dream Teamer, I doubt the difference between the two is that great.Swarm may be too strong a word, but I'd wager most kids would know who Patrick Ewing is before they'd know who Chris Mullin is. I also can't remember when the last time St John's was relevant.
And of course parents weigh in on the recruiting process. There's a load of talent in the Mid Atlantic region that ends up elsewhere and I'm sure most know who he is. Even the tradition of him and the other players coming back to practice and train with the young guys would help. His name would be far more relevant to them than JT, at the very least.
Edit: the main problem is I don't ever see the school being okay with 'one and done' type players, so it's an uphill battle. Doesn't mean they can't be back in the picture though.
Patrick Ewing was the best player on a decent to good team in the biggest market for 15 years. Chris Mullin was the best player for relatively mediocre teams whose city most people probably didn't know. There's a big difference.
I assume it's because he doesn't want to bankroll two coaches, he's still paying for Travis Ford. Why isn't TBP bankrolling the program like Knight at O? Only likes fb?
The "sane" IU fans are fine with it.... (like Me)Indian fans I imagine are not pleased.
the deal will be worth in the range of $4 million annually, sources said. Miller met with Dayton administrators Saturday and released a statement that he is leaving for Indiana- WOJArchie Miller is the new Indiana coach.
