Celtics done per Himmelsbach. Muscala plus an inevitable buyout wing seems pretty good to me. Small improvements around the margins are all this team needs.

I wonder if we were in on McDaniels. I mentioned him up thread, but was of the assumption that he was probably too valuable to CHA. If we could have gotten him for PP and 2 2nds I would have done that and they'd still have room for a buyout

Windy on ESPN thinks Clippers or Heat for Westbrook. Zach threw cold water on the Clippers theory.
Ha, probably true. I honestly have no idea where Westbrook goes now. He's not a fit unless you are tanking or want to destroy team chemistry.
If I was a tanking team with young guys, I'd take Westbrook. He plays hard, is a pro, is entertaining, will make a few wow plays to fire up depressed fanbases...and the team will keep losing. Kind of a perfect fit.
problem is, he's too good, he'll help you win games. Westbrook's problem is he's not good enough to play the way he does on a good team, he needs to support the star, and he messes up spacing on offense, and his not good defense hurts you. He also just isn't willing to accept he's the 4th best player. But put him on a bad team... he gets to the rim, rebounds, gets assists, and just does enough on offense to help, and your defense was already bad so he's at worst a wash, sometimes an improvement.
Like... if he went to HOU he wins them games, because he's way better than what they have.
Since we're talking about RWB again, I wanted to post this video of him shooting in a gym back in September. I don't have time to watch his games but it's kind of amazing how different practice can be from game time.

Barton is fine but he can be streaky. In short, he is a "no, no, no...yes" type of player. If the Cs have a choice between him and Danny Green I prefer the latter (defense) but given that neither is unlikely to see much time at all, either will do.
I kind of lean towards Barton because of the “no, no, no….yes” effect. This team has defense — for a 10th guy who may not get a ton of run, I’d rather we take the swing on the offense off the bench who may steal you a game when Tatum goes 5-23 and Jaylen dribbles off his foot 4 times and DWhite turns into 2022 playoffs DWhite from 3.

I see Brogdon and White as already being your no-no-yes guys--they can get their own shots off at all 3 levels, and their bad shots are probably a bit higher quality than Barton's bad shots. I'd take Green, but wouldn't be incensed about Barton or anything.

Haha yes, that is true. DWhite definitely puts up some nonoyes 3s, and they both get to those floaters/fadeways in the lane well when up against the shot clock. Honestly, the more I think about it, they just seem like better versions of Barton (in that regard; superior to him in other parts of the game, which is why they cost a lot more.)
I would like to see Alec Burks as the buyout wing. Detroit has a $10.4 million option on him for next season, and he’s a Tatum pal. Putting up 13 ppg in only 22 minutes, on 42% shooting from three. Decent size at 6’6” 215 pounds. I wonder if the Pistons want him next season as a player or a trade chip. Noel is in a similar situation.
I havent been paying attention - is there a chance Gallo comes back this season? Not a big fan of how the Celtics played this deadline relative to some of the other title contenders, but if they can effectively say they added Gallo AND Muscala by season end, I suppose it becomes much more palatable
Asking a player to come off the bench for 10-12mpg and be an efficient 3pt shooter is easier said than done. Muscala is really good at that. We'll grow to appreciate that.
A 40% 3pt shooting 5 that can spread the floor with the 2nd unit means IF they add another player it will probably be a defense-first WING. Barton would be sexier, but Green would be more useful

He may not be completely useless even if he doesn't play. A disabled player exception was awarded to the Celtics due to Gallinari's injury which will allow them to spend up to $3.2 million on the buyout market. The Celtics still have an open roster spot after the Vonleh trade to San Antonio. They may find someone useful on a buyout.
I do wonder if the C's are in a tough spot w/r/t the buyout market. Guys like Barton and Green would be nice to add to the end of the bench, but I don't think Brad can promise them playing time. Is 35 year old Danny Green coming off a torn ACL going to take the Sam Hauser minutes? Maybe, but it's certainly not a given. Same with Will Barton -- he's fine, but a low-usage spot up guy like Hauser is probably more valuable than a ball stopper like Barton who can occasionally get you 20 points while giving it all back on the other end.

I think that the concerns about Green are valid, but anyone that we bring in at the DPE or vet min will have warts.
Green seems like Marcus/White insurance to me, and a knockoff version at that.

As far as #15, I was going to suggest Jae'Sean Tate, but he still has a few years left on his deal and Houston won't buy that out. Pickings will be slim. I wouldn't be shocked if they put JD on the 15-man and rewarded someone from Maine or G-League on a 2-way with an eye toward the future
Arguably, we won the Philly game Wednesday under just those circumstances. Down 3.5 starters, Tatum's shooting is off (though his passing decisions were great), and the entire second team stepped up and had their games of the season all at once. How many teams in the league could win with 4 starters out? Even if the starter you keep is an MVP candidate, I'm not sure there's any others.
We have lots of offense off the bench. We just got more.

Earlier this season, his Mrs. was going publicly bad on Hornet Mgmt/medical dept so I guess it wouldn't be shocking.

His numbers have taken a bit of a tumble this year, but the bigger issue is that you can't give him any sort of role, because he will miss time and his absence could throw you off. I don't know that there is a less durable rotation player in the league at this point. If Boston were to sign him he'd probably be the 9th guy, and even putting aside the history here, I don't think he'd sign up for that. Remember this is a guy who left a Celtics team that just went to the conference finals (and had a couple of young stars), for a Hornets team that hadn't made the playoffs in 5 years and hadn't won a series since the old Hornets 20 years earlier. Relatively speaking, I don't know exactly how important winning is for him.
Buyout guys generally want 3 things: a chance to win, playing time, and money. The Celtics are in a good position on 2 of three of those. Chance to win, obviously, and money. (If they tap the DPE for Gallinari, they can offer more than the vet minimum, which is what other over the cap teams will be restricted to).
So it will come down to the balancing of chance to win and opportunity to play, with money maybe tipping the scales on a close decision to the Celtics.
Very different circumstances though, there is a big difference between leaving a team where you're the 4th option at age 29 to play somewhere you're a top 2 option AND get paid a lot more, and deciding what team to sign with for half a season after a buyout at age 32 with 2.5 injury filled years.

I think he'd see Boston as attractive, half a season, no real pressure, almost certain to be a playoff team, guys he knows, and a GM who he trusts. Playing a smaller role likely helps him stay healthy, and the thing he wants most if he gets bought out is to stay healthy and show some flashes, maybe help win a playoff game with a big performance off the bench.
The Finals start on June 1, and if he were to recover just as quickly as he did 9 years earlier, that means he'd be back in time for game 6 of the finals. It's good to see he's motivated and working to get back this year, but it's just not happening. Speaking of Hayward, this reminds me of those stories that we heard about him potentially coming back by year end in 2018 (or way back in 2009 when KG was always just about ready to come back). Ah, memories.
