Sometimes on the internet we see exciting spelled as exiting. That's what a bunch of our best players are doing...exiting.Or later.
Well, at least we didn't lose an exciting player or anything like that.

Yep. When their starting pitching comes back to earth they’re gonna lose a ton of 6-2 games.Only because of our unprecedented starting pitching.
The dam will burst soon.

Is Cora concerned about a lengthy absence? “Yes. I am.”
Reyes and Dalbec at 1B for now.
Here's what they are going to do: nothing. Because something would involve spending money and there's no reason to do that. Somebody will play first, maybe not well, but we have bodies already on the payroll. Why get more? Dalbec can't hit? Look at the bright side! He's here already. If we can open a spot on the 40-man Niko Kavadas is a perfect replacement. He's already on the payroll! Play the kids! Roll with the punches. Next man up.It'll be interesting to see what they do. I have to think they still want to compete. They're two games over .500, the pitching has been incredible, they're getting excellent seasons out of O'Neill, Casas, Duran, and Yoshida and young guys like Abreu are coming on. They've been out-of-their-minds bad on defense, and the offense has been slightly worse than expected, I think, and could have been better going forward if they had a Casas-like bat. This team could be in the race for a wild-card spot this year, and from there, who knows what happens.
I see a silver lining as being something good, IMO excuses aren't really a good thing. The silver lining that I'm seeing is the fact that some of these other guys are getting more playing time than they might normally get and we (and more importantly Breslow and Co.) are getting an opportunity to see what they may or may not be able to do. As difficult as some of it is to watch, there's real value in seeing these things.Well at least there’s a good excuse available if they have a bad season, right? Silver lining and all that.
It's already time to start looking at what Prospects we can get for our veterans. In the truest of senses, it’s hard to even believe. The entire starting infield (1B, 2B, SS, 3B), a starting OF, and 3/5 starting pitchers injured. And it’s April 20th.
The idea that the ownership group is totally averse to spending money has become such a meme on here. Here's what they are going to do: nothing. Rough April.
And what would they spend money on for a temp 1B? Belt hasn’t gone through spring training and will take time to build up and that’s assuming anything is left in the tank. Here's what they are going to do: nothing. The difference being that if Casas really is going to be out for a long time, getting Belt some at-bats in extended spring or in Worcester isn't that much of a hinderance. And what would they spend money on for a temp 1B? I’m all for Niko Kavadas.
Me too.And what would they spend money on for a temp 1B? Belt hasn’t gone through spring training and will take time to build up and that’s assuming anything is left in the tank.

I like the extensions. It's the right thing to do. All I'm saying is this front office won't spend money now on retreads currently sitting on their sofas at home. The idea that the ownership group is totally averse to spending money has become such a meme on here.
They just extended Rafaela and Bello this spring. They signed Liam Hendricks, Giolito, and several other pitchers. They spent three hundred million to lock up Devers. Now, you can quibble with each of those decisions, and argue if they were the right choices, but this narrative that they're not spending money... they're spending money.
Do they go out and get Brandon Belt for a couple million? What if it's ten million? I think it'll depend on how long Casas is out. If they sign Belt and everyone comes back healthy, he's kind of a man without a position -- Casas will be at first and Yoshida at DH, meaning he's got nowhere to go. And then we'd have to find a way to either trade Yoshida. It's an awkward fit. We'll see, I guess.
And yeah, I don't love Kavadas, and he may or may not ever be a major leaguer, but the guy does have titanic power, gets on base at an absolutely astonishing clip, and has cut the strikeouts down so far this year, so while they sort this out I wouldn't be averse at all to him getting a shot.
JD Martinez signed with the Mets a month ago and still isn't close to returning. The difference being that if Casas really is going to be out for a long time, getting Belt some at-bats in extended spring or in Worcester isn't that much of a hinderance.

Or a this is completely fucking moronic hot-take. Considering Heineman, Perez, and Kolozsvary weren't in the system until this season. And Morrero was a defense-first catcher at AA.View: https://twitter.com/redsoxstats/status/1782077843402334544?s=46
This is a completely fair point. With the abundant catching options at the high end of the system, the complete lack of first base depth, and Hickeys lack of ability behind the plate, it’s pretty damning he isn’t ready to plug n play at first right now.
Is there actually a difference between a "broken" rib and a "fractured" one? Dr Google says no. RIP DRS.Casas just spoke. Says he’s in a lot of pain. MRI tomorrow in Boston.

Oh.Yep. When their starting pitching comes back to earth they’re gonna lose a ton of 6-2 games.
Hickey cannot catch. The Soxprospects guys have been saying this for 2 years. Getting him first base reps has always made sense.Or a this is completely fucking moronic hot-take. No. Fucking moronic. These things don't happen in a vacuum. Should they have just. . .what? Demoted or sidelined Kavadas or Jordan because it was blindingly important in the summer of 2023 to get Hickey up to speed at 1B. When Dalbec was tearing up AAA? When they had Palka and Goodrum on the roster at AAA?Hickey cannot catch. The Soxprospects guys have been saying this for 2 years. Getting him first base reps has always made sense.
Far from moronic, especially given the lack of first base options in the high minors.
At least it was a swing at a real pitch and not on thrown by a pitching machine.Breaking a rib on a swing... I give up.
Broken, fractured or torn cartilage, he's going to be gone for a while.Going on a limb the rib is broken. This is awful - he’ll be gone a while if it is.
Kavadas struck out nearly 40 % of the time in AA. Jordan was at high A and could have easily rotated a couple times a week from DH/1B with Hickey.No. Fucking moronic. This is just some rando twitter-dude's hyperbole.
I doubt the Soxprospects guys will tell you they're always correct.Kavadas struck out nearly 40 % of the time in AA. Jordan was at high A and could have easily rotated a couple times a week from DH/1B with Hickey.
Hickey looks like a legitimate bat and a horrible catcher.
Again, the Soxprospects guys have been wondering for 10 months now why he wasn’t getting first base reps. Not revisionist, not hyperbole.
This. I went OTB mountain biking two weeks ago to the day and landed hard on my chest. No rib fracture evident from X-Ray, but they either missed something or I tore cartilage (snapping/popping when I move certain ways). Regardless of bruised (strained) ribs, broken ribs or cartilage tear I’m looking at 6-8 weeks from what I can tell and been told.Broken, fractured or torn cartilage, he's going to be gone for a while.
Just a guess that the kind of blunt impact injury you have is of a different nature than a pulling/twisting one? But maybe healing is healing and the schedule is the same. And thank you for reminding me not to go MTBing alone quite so often.This. I went OTB mountain biking two weeks ago to the day and landed hard on my chest. Upshot (if there is one) is that it’s not something that requires rehab/or is prone to reoccurrence as long as it’s healed properly.
Too soon.At least it was a swing at a real pitch and not on thrown by a pitching machine.
I’ll bite…is this preposterous?I’ve been saying for 5 years now that Yoshida needs to start taking reps at 1B

Not disagreeing with the idea, but “he’s unsigned other than his contract with the Marlins” is funnyJosh Bell anyone? He’s not great on D and he’s getting 16.5 mil this year, but he’s unsigned beyond that and the 5-17 Marlins would probably pay some of his deal to get a lottery ticket.
He had a setback with a back issue and should be joining the Mets next weekend.JD Martinez signed with the Mets a month ago and still isn't close to returning.
I wouldn't say no, depending on a number of factors.Josh Bell anyone? He’s not great on D and he’s getting 16.5 mil this year, but he’s unsigned beyond that and the 5-17 Marlins would probably pay some of his deal to get a lottery ticket.
