I’ll try and double check, but I don’t believe they can buy him out. My understanding is teams are only allowed 2 buyouts at any time. The Bruins will have Seidenberg and Hayes still on the books next season.
Edit: Actually, I think they can buy him out. According to the Cap Friendly CBA Faq’s, the limit of 2 was for compliance buyouts following lockout III.
I guess its a good sign that they dont have to keep running an ineffective veteran out there regularly simply because they have insufficient quantity or quality to replace him. Too bad it didn't work out, but it didn't.
I'm surprised this is how it all turned out for him. He was pretty good in his first year and seemed capable of being a solid middle 6 option. Now, whatever he has left in the tank, the youth movement has surged past him.
