At first the offer seemed way too low. But could it be an attempt to find some middle ground for a longer-term deal?Wow $2 million? I hope he’s not insulted by that.
How does it work? Does the arbitrator decide which number? Or do they come up with a number themselves?@FlutoShinzawa
Jeremy Swayman’s arbitration hearing has concluded. Award is expected within 48 hours.
So the contract will either be $2 million or $4.8 million?Arbitor decides the number
Ok that’s better news. ThanksNope, the arbitor can award any salary they want, it isn’t one or the other.
They usually split the difference, so it’s going to be $3.4 million give it take a few hundred thousand.
They have enough flexibility, I don't think a trade is necessary unless something crazy happens and the arb arwards are both heavily lean towards the players ask.Assuming that’s the number and that CapFriendly is correct, that’ll leave the Bruins with ~$2 million for the Frederic award. Considering the halfway mark between them is over that, I have to think there’s either one more move they’ll make to give themselves in-season space or they’re going to roll with this and make a move on Day 1 to be compliant.
Nailed it.Nope, the arbitor can award any salary they want, it isn’t one or the other.

Is there any reason that Miller would accept one penny less than the total contract amount? The Bruins cocked this up badly, and while I've zero sympathy for Miller here, the fact is, he signed a legal contract.
Miller has signed to play in Slovakia. To resolve it more quickly so he can head to Europe or Russia where it may be easier to bury the whole thing under the rug.
Bruins great Tim Thomas volunteers to help rebuild flood-damaged buildings in Vermont (bostonglobe.com)The gifted goaltender resurfaced after being named as part of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019, later detailing the brain damage from his playing career that derailed his life long after he decided to hang up his gear.
A year after his retirement, Thomas underwent a brain scan that revealed that two-thirds of his brain was getting less than 5 percent blood flow and the other third was averaging about 50 percent.
“My rebound effect was like, this wasn’t worth it,” Thomas said of the scan results and grappling with post-concussion symptoms. “That’s where I was then. Where I am today is past that. I ended up learning so many lessons out of the experience. It brought me tighter with my family. It taught me a value for life and a value for my brain that I’ve never had before. And I have appreciation for everything that I never had before. I don’t regret anything.”
In the years that followed, Thomas has started to become more visible in the hockey community.
After taking part in the Bruins’ 2011 Stanley Cup Zoom reunion in 2020, Thomas later told The Athletic that he hopes to begin connecting with his former teammates on a more regular basis moving forward
“About 16 months ago, I came through the other side, so to speak,” Thomas told The Athletic in 2021. “As I continued to get better and better, I’m looking for things to be involved in that are interesting. I’m looking to reconnect with friends and acquaintances that I built over my life.”
When he made his appearance in 2019 after years of being nowhere to be found, he said he had gotten a concussion while playing for Florida that was the real cataylst for his brain issues and PCS. Sounds like he's in a much better physical and mental place now.A Tim Thomas sighting in Vermont, where he now lives. Helping post-flood rebuilding. (and a description of his post-career physical condition -- head injury -- that I was unaware of).

"Hey, is the story from Buff's true?" Mike Grinnell of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast asked Rask after a recent interview, in a video posted this week. (Language warning on that.) "Did you [poop] yourself during the game?"
"What?!" Rask replied.
Rask was asked if the rumor of him eating chicken wings at Buff's Pub hours after the loss was true.
"I went to Buff's like five days before that," Rask answered.
Rask said the rumor "[bleeping] caught fire" but was not true.
"I got sick at like 5 a.m. that morning and we had a 12:30 game. But yeah, no Buff's," Rask said. "I was puking and [pooping]."
His advanced numbers are still pretty good as wellHeinen back on a PTO.

Familiarity with the organization and he also played for Monty at Denver. Still only 28. Found a nice home in PIT after being dealt to ANA and eventually non-qualified, but fell off last season. Always liked him, and the B's need forward bodies.
Pete Blackburn on X: " https://t.co/Fs5I0sMd7A" / X (twitter.com)Did you guys see that the Bruins are getting new uniforms this year? I didn't. This kinda snuck up on me.

It's a lot of stripesThe double band around the arms ruin it for me. I wouldn’t buy it.
I'm not ready for anything hockey because I'm still crying into my BergyI'm digging the third with the 1924. It really pops. Not sure if I'm ready for another Jersey though as I am still crying into my Bergy.
A lot of stripes and no gold shoulder panels is disappointing. It's a lot of stripes
Eh. The only throwback they really haven’t had in the last ~20 years was the late 70s-early 90s crackbear era (except the 2020 Reverse Retros they wore for one day on Lake Tahoe). Using that, without the shoulder yokes, is fine.A lot of stripes and no gold shoulder panels is disappointing.
Not sure if you guys saw it, or put much credence into why, but apparently the reason for the six gold stripes (three on each arm) is because it represents the six Cups the team won.Eh. But the double stripes is some grade-A bullshit.
I thought he quit or got banned? It's a lot of stripes
