I think it’s Brusdar and given the fact that part of the trade made little sense if he was a left top 50 guy, it makes sense.
If it's not bad enough to cancel the deal, where's the leverage?Verdugo's back might not be bad enough to cancel the deal, but it could be used as leverage to get something else from the Dodgers
Wouldn't the Dodgers have provided all the records and disclosed everything they know about the condition of Verdugo's back? The Sox are obviously going to have a thorough medical evaluation done so why make a deal that could fall apart?Verdugo's back might not be bad enough to cancel the deal, but it could be used as leverage to get something else from the Dodgers
Not if it's Price whose physical is in question.Any medical hold-up should work in the Red Sox's favor. Given the public reaction to the deal thus far, Dodger executives will be under much more pressure to complete it. If the deal falls apart, Red Sox can always turn to the Padres.
Take another look at Maeda's deal: he's under an 8/$25m contract.Yeah if someone did fail a physical, I dunno why everyone's convinced it's Verdugo and not the guy who has already had TJ surgery and other problems.
edit: would also explain why he was available for Maeda.
It has a lot less if MIN uses him as a SP all year:Take another look at Maeda's deal: he's under an 8/$25m contract.
That contract has tremendous surplus value.
Non Orioles division? When was the last time any deal fell through because of the medicals? Seems like a pipe dream…
Sox probably get the Celtics to kick in another 2d rounder....Verdugo's back might not be bad enough to cancel the deal, but it could be used as leverage to get something else from the Dodgers
Rich Harden, 2011?When was the last time any deal fell through because of the medicals? Seems like a pipe dream…
Carrabis and RedSoxStats seem to be with you on this.I think it’s Brusdar and given the fact that part of the trade made little sense if he was a left top 50 guy, it makes sense.
this assumes the trade simulator is worth the bytes it is consuming on the internet. I find most of its results to be laughably inaccurate Ex ante, including this one. I think whoever programmed it has a serious case of prospect envy. The Dodgers got two players who will likely be very good in 2019; Alex Verdugo hasn’t swung a bat since last July and Graterol is already down one Tommy John surgery.See Savin Hillbilly’s trade simulator link. Bloom won on value massively.
Carrabis and RedSoxStats seem to be with you on this.
I hope they aren’t quoting Gammo at this point.Peter Gammons actually called it first.
What did Gammons say about an injury? And can you direct us to it, please?Peter Gammons actually called it first.
I wonder what would happen if the Twins employed an opener in his starts so that the games started clause didn’t kick in? Union grievance maybe? It has a lot less if MIN uses him as a SP all year:
"Maeda can earn up to $81.2 million in performance bonuses, $10.15 million each year based on games started and innings pitched, and being on the opening day roster, per the Associated Press:
150 innings/25 starts moves his salary to $8 or $9M per year, I believe.
- Maeda will receive $150,000 each year for making the opening day active 25-man roster.
- He will receive $1 million for each of 15 and 20 starts, and $1.5 million for each of 25, 30 and 32 starts.
- Maeda each year will earn $250,000 for each of 90, 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160, 170, 180 and 190 innings pitched, and $750,000 for 200 innings."
I couldn't fit the 's' but it's a metaphor
I can't link, but this is the quote; he doesn't actually mention medicals. What did Gammons say about an injury? And can you direct us to it, please?
Olney said the same thing on his podcast this morning, it wasn't about medicals, just minor extra pieces in the deal.I can't link, but this is the quote; he doesn't actually mention medicals. "Rumors are that there is more in this deal when announced. Draft picks? International slot $? A level players to be named later? No one knows" But he obviously heard some rumblings that more will be included. Or he is senile, but I'd like to see Peter getting one last big scoop.
Serious question--have you ever had a positive thought?I’d think Price’s medicals would be an issue and Boston will have to eat the entire salary.
He's positive we're doomedSerious question--have you ever had a positive thought?
Ha, fair question. I’ve thought Price is damaged goods for a while.Serious question--have you ever had a positive thought?
And at that point we keep Price and LA gives us more mediocre playersI’d think Price’s medicals would be an issue and Boston will have to eat the entire salary.
I feel like Perez reasonably fills the hole Rick left, for a fraction of the cost.I'm not as worried about the offense, because I'm quite high on Verdugo, but our rotation is looking like shit. I hope they have a plan for that rotation, because losing both Price and Porcello is big.
FWIW he was dreadful against RHB and awesome against LHB at all three levels last year, AA/AAA/MLB.Personally I’d love to see them try and stretch out Darwinzen
I feel like you follow me around and bat my hands away when I try and reach the cookie jar.FWIW he was dreadful against RHB and awesome against LHB at all three levels last year, AA/AAA/MLB.
The thing is, its methodology may be flawed, but at least it has a methodology, which inclines me to give it the benefit of the doubt over "I find" and "Any fool can see."this assumes the trade simulator is worth the bytes it is consuming on the internet. I find most of its results to be laughably inaccurate Ex ante, including this one. I think whoever programmed it has a serious case of prospect envy.
Heh, sorry. I think Hernandez and Graterol are likely both relievers but we’ll see.I feel like you follow me around and bat my hands away when I try and reach the cookie jar.
We are going to get another piece.I am not going to lie. I want this trade to implode. It won't of course, but there is a chance...

That is what the reports say. So are you Friedman, Levine or Bloom? We are going to get another piece.
I'm very curious how medicals indicate that a guy can relieve but not startThe Red Sox, after viewing the medical records of Twins right-hander Brusdar Graterol, projected him more as a reliever than as a starter, according to sources involved with the discussions. As a result of that valuation, the Sox might ask for an additional player and/or money to bridge the gap, though it is unclear whether the player would come from the Twins or Dodgers, sources said.
Assuming shoulder strength.Summary of Rosenthal:
Verdugo medicals are clear
Sox reportedly sending about half of Price's remaining $96m to Dodgers, which requires league approval

I wonder if there is a way for Bloom to swap someone else for Verdugo. I also wonder if, given the chance, he would do so. I have to believe the Sox either miscalculated how much weight fans would give to Verdugo's baggage or, worse yet, didn't consider it at all. Its fairly obvious that he will have a very difficult time being given any kind of a fair shot by the media or people who root for the team.Summary of Rosenthal:

I felt like I had to be vague with this one, but I think I got the point across.Because Carrabis and our own SoxScout are legitimately plugged and both are alluding to physical issues.
Has there been blowback on Verdugo in Boston? On sports radio or in any of the papers?I wonder if there is a way for Bloom to swap someone else for Verdugo. you did good.I felt like I had to be vague with this one, but I think I got the point across.
