Two things I read way too much into:

1. He wants to destroy the Colts to the point where they are no longer a viable NFL franchise.

2. He is looking forward to the investigation because he knows it will exonerate him/Tom Brady/the team and ultimately make the Colts look like babies.

I agree with both of your points. In particular I bet he wants to hang 70 on them next year in the regular season.

I've posted this before but it's appropriate here as well. Pat Yasinkas (Bucs writer for ESPN.com) frequents the same bar I frequent. The owner (and main bartender) got to know Pat and they talked about what he did.
Bartender asked Pat who the funniest/most fun person to talk to was in the NFL and, without a beat, Pat said Bill Belichick. Said that when he is not in front of the cameras or being peppered with stupid questions he doesn't care to answer he is very deadpan and legitimately funny. Sort of synchs up with what we saw in these Letterman clips

This was quite literally a fresh angle on Bill Belichick. Never mind the suit and tie: we NEVER see him reclining, head tilted back.

I almost wanted him to sit up and lean his torso forward, elbows on knees, so I wouldn't feel so disoriented.
Why is Belichick reclining? Why is this night different from all other nights?

That paragraph from Florio is Exhibit A on just how delusional certain members of the media are, and how intense their obvious hatred of all things Patriots is.

The notion that David Letterman would attempt to get BB to reveal anything as if Dave was an investigative reporter is topped on the silliness scale only by the suggestion that Bill would pick that interview as the time to contradict himself or otherwise cleanse his soul with a confession.

What a clown Florio is.

Like everything else certain (read: most) media outlets have been "reporting" regarding this stupid, stupid, scandal, it also requires one to accept the premise that BB is guilty of some violation or cover-up.

There's no evidence of either.

Belichick's reclining position deserves its own thread. Was his angle different from others in the past? How did it compare with his seated angle following the Cheifs game? Was he angled at all when he made the Welker and Mankins calls or was it even more exaggerated?

Too much for a generic thread such as this.

He brought the Patriots out of the desert, out of the bonds of eternal accusations about Deflategate, and about not winning a Super Bowl since the taping fiasco.

Pete Carroll should have remembered that on that night, you might be able to run-over the Pats but
you can't pass over the Pats.

BB is not the kind of guy who would revel in the score of a game. In fact, he is about as far removed from that guy as you can find.

There are occasions, very rare, when he goes over the top to rip someone. You can count them on one hand.

I think he is beyond pissed about this. And because they are laying this at the feet of the Colts, it's also a good bet that that are very much on to the people within the NFL Office who worked hand-in-glove with the Colts.

I'll say it again -- Pats are not going gently into the night on this. Everything that happened in the 10 days after the AFC Championship game was calculated to hurt the Pats as much as possible. It is unprecedented, and I believe the Pats response will be as well.

It seemed that both men were having a blast.  Bill knew that Dave is a big Colts fan and couldn't resist getting his barbs in -

"Well, it was only a 38-point win"

"He (Blount) had a good game against your Colts.  I'm sure you remember that, Dave - 160 yards, three touchdowns"

"We got off that Colts subject in a hurry, didn't we?"

I hope the Colts spend this entire offseason over-correcting to try and build a tough run stopping D only to have Brady hang 5 or 6 tds and 400+ yards on them.

And I fully expect an EPIC press conference after as well, akin to his comments about FredEx after the '04 SB.

I would love for Bill to say: "We played for a fully inflated score. We didn't want complaints about a deflated score."

Well other than the "are there still 3 preseason games"?

Well no Dave, it's been 4 preseason games since 1978, down from 6.

Going out on a limb to say Pagano is not getting a friendly handshake after the game.  It may be a Mangini Special.

Before Bill entered from stage left, Letterman was talking about him and Bill previously standing before a mirror and agreeing that they looked like those two old guys that used to heckle the Muppets. "How did that happen?" These guys?

Either only Pats fans are clicking on this crap at this point (joke's on us?) or the tide has completely turned.

it’s absurd that you’re this upset that a comedy show host didn’t interrogate him. the whole thing is a joke. it’s probably gonna end up being proven that they didn’t cheat at all and all these idiots are going to have to eat crow. i’m an eagles fan, by the way, and i hate belichick and the patriots.

Florio, it really seems to bother you that a comedy show didn’t yield any results for deflategate.

Saw the complete appearance. Letterman asked some very good questions. He knows or his staff knows football.

Yeah, and that's sort of what makes Florio's piece so silly.  Does he even entertain the thought that Letterman was simply talking honestly about his reaction to the whole thing in his sort of classic style?

I guess it just doesn't compute for Florio that what Letterman said is maybe exactly how he sees this whole thing.

Florio is basically complaining that they talked about the championship season and the Super Bowl. Crazy.

The freeze-frame that I really want - and tried a few times and couldn't get - was where BB says he didn't know anything about ball inflation, and then goes on to say "but in the next few days, I learned a lot".  In the course of saying that, the camera zooms way in on him and there's a flash of his face where he's just making a "I couldn't fucking believe that bullshit" expression.  It only lasted an instant.  Wish there was a picture of it though, really conveyed (what I imagine are) his inner emotions on the matter.

I thought his response about not taking the timeout was interesting.  He was basically saying that they we're trying to "play through it", but his tone gave off a vibe that he thinks it could have been a mistake.

Yeah, that middle image.  Guess it's not that great a look on a freeze-frame, but as I was watching it live, I cracked up.

Maybe I'm the only one.

Bill and the Patriots were between a rock and a hard place. And then Carroll passed, God love him.
