Sanchez is an exciting signing for a few reasons:
  1. He can score goals - something that Arsenal's gaggle of CAMs cannot do very well
  2. He has real pace - again, something that Arsenal doesn't have much of outside Theo and Oxlade-Chamberlain (who is quick, but not a true burner)
  3. The Sanchez signing proves that Ozil was not a one-time deal, and that Wenger isn't going to seek to only build through the youth system (e.g. he could have looked at Gnabry and said "enough wingers" despite the fact that Gnabry isn't ready to play consistently for a title-aspiring team)

He'll slot into the best 11 immediately and take some of the pressure off of Theo's return from injury.

Well, everyone keep in mind we still might lose Santi if he forces a move to Atleti as has been reported prior to the WC

I suspect if that report was true its because he's been shoved out to wing with Ozil added and might want to return to his natural CAM position but yeah.

Anyway, Lars Bender still on the market, get it done Arsene. Or Sami Khedira.

If the Sanchez deal goes through, and for the relative cheap dollars, I would like them to make a play for Ross Barkley. Unload the brinks if you have to. I know the chances of getting him are next to nil, but I want someone like him. Dare to dream.... Also Khedira would be nice.

I love Santi, who has put in some epic performances to keep this team winning in the last couple years. But if we can get decent money for him then I'm OK with him moving on. Between Ox, Wilshere, and Rozza, we have three other players for the left midfield/backup CAM roles and I'd like to see the first two keep getting chances to get on the field and get to the next level. You can't have enough depth but we're short enough in other areas that if money from a Santi sale helps us strengthen elsewhere, I'm OK with it.

Ideally, I'd love one of Bender/Khedira/Schneiderlin to pair in the starting lineup with Ramsey plus another less expensive DM who could also provide cover at CB.

I have a feeling Flamini is who will be playing your role of less expensive DM who could cover CB, even though I'm not sure he ever played CB. Did play fullback quite a bit in his last Arsenal tenure though.

You could well be right. The CB depth scares me. I don't want to put all the pieces into place for a real title challenge only for Isaac Hayden to be playing critical matches next spring because two of Kos/BFG/Verm(if he stays) get knocks around the same time. I'm all for getting Hayden some match time and hoping to integrate him into the squad, but we need another option as well.

I think Schneiderlin would be perfect for Arsenal.  I'd be very unhappy to see him there,  I really like him as a player and he'd help quite a bit.

I agree. I don't think Wenger will ever play with a pure DM destroyer and I'd be ecstatic if we acquired any of Schneiderlin/Khedira/Bender but I suspect that to get the best out of Ramsey he needs a pivot partner that is relatively conservative with his positioning and run making, sort of like how Fernandinho allowed Yaya the freedom to really roam and attack for you guys last season.

That gif is really terrific. I didn't see this myself, but apparently Barcelona already posted and took down the Sanchez agreement:

Kit launch with Puma is tonight.

Podolski just tweeted this pic of him, Ozil, Khedira, and Boateng working Sanchez's short shorts look.  Lets hope they know something we don't, and if Pod and Ozil are whispering in Khedira's ear as well, even better.

Now time to work on Khedira, about whom there's been a bunch of Twitter speculation in the last couple days.

Well, Nasri did say that Wenger was the best manager he ever played for - are we counting things like that?

I was just having fun so I'll leave it here but Nasri has been phenomenal for City and arguably has scored the key goal in both title winning seasons.  Don't get all Piers Morgan on me or I'll have to post pictures of Paddy V in a City shirt.

Sanchez is going to be a real handful to deal with, there's no denying that Arsenal will be there this season.

Apparently, Arsene is trying to get Manquillo on loan from Atleti. It would be good depth for Debuchy and may mean that Jenkinson is, in fact, headed the other way.

Manquillo is an excellent young player -- you'll really enjoy having him. Atletico has right-back covered with Juanfran, who seems to be Atletico's starter for most likely the next two seasons. In that case, Atletico has two years to groom Manquillo to replace Juanfran, or an opportunity to make some money if Manquillo shines at Arsenal.

Vieira is the biggest Arsenal signing yous have ever made.

THAT one actually hurts.

In thinking through Arsenal's remarkably progressive transfer activity so far this window, I find myself thinking: maybe Wenger's transfer policy over the last decade really *wasn't* his fault? If it's true that his hands really were tied much more than he ever let on, and he's consistently chosen the honorable path of saying nothing and never hanging the board out to dry, and this summer really does show that Arsenal now has the stable financial platform it needs to kick on and aim for league/European titles...then wow, it's possible that nearly all of my ill will toward Wenger over the last few years has been badly misjudged. (He really ought to write a book some day, not that he'd ever do that...)

Or maybe he'll fail to buy the marquee DM and backup CB we so desperately need and I'll still get to September feeling frustrated. We'll see, I guess.

Gazidis was interviewed last night at the Puma shirt launch and specifically asked about a holding midfielder and he smiled and said, "I'm not going to talk about it until its done."

Call me an optimist but I think we're really looking at a new era.  Everything points to them trying to bring in a real quality player at that position, whether that's Khedira/Schneiderlin/Bender or somebody totally out of left field.

They signed a top-class player before the World Cup is even over. I'm not going to lie and say I'm not a little anxious about some of the other holes in the squad, but that augurs well for the rest of the window. They're being linked by reasonably trustworthy people to players all over the place, instead of Goal.com rumors.

Feels strange and foreign but I like it. It's fun to feel like we're actually adding "top qualideee" to a squad that actually already won something!

Reporter asks Khedira some kind of question about where he might be playing next year, Podolski in the background shouting ARSENAL!!!  I don't care that Poldi is overpaid and that his style doesn't really fit Wengerball, he's clearly such a fun guy to have around and a huge part of our master plan to sign every German possible.  Let him cash checks, play in Cup games and lesser league fixtures, and continue to be everybody's favorite teammate.

I'm not confident that the deal is going to get done anymore. It seems like Arsenal are balking at the wages. I'm not that comfortable making Khedira the top paid player at the club, but I also anticipate there will be a lot of wage inflation as the commercial deals get better and the players Arsenal gets are more established stars (or giving raises to players like Ramsey). From a financial side, that's what made me okay with it and from a footballing side, I was super excited. If it does end up going through, I wonder who will make the concessions. Real may need the money/Khedria off the books if they make a move for James.

Bender and Schneiderlin aren't really consolation prizes in my book. I think that both fit what Arsenal needs better than Khedira, but what excites me about Khedira is that he brings other useful attributes (size, experience, his relationship with the German players).

What happens in Vegas....

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2692078/Jack-Wilshere-smokes-learn-While-Germany-rule-world-England-pouring-away-Arsenal-star-Joe-Hart-party-Las-Vegas.html
What of Wilshere and Hart then? In one image, reminiscent of Paul Gascoigne’s infamous experience in the Dentist’s Chair at the China Jump Club in Hong Kong back in 1996, a friend pours what looks like champagne down Wilshere’s throat.

The two players have been in Las Vegas partying with friends before they return to Manchester City and Arsenal for pre-season training. It is not becoming of England internationals.

Hart is going to have to give Head and Shoulders their money back with that patchy top.

I'm not sure why the English media care about this, but they always do.  Wilshere smoking is maybe a semi big deal but the rest of it seems like a big yawn.

As far as the smoking goes, its just the press having a field day if you ask me.  Search the internet and you'll find pictures of Zidane smoking, Messi smoking, Rooney smoking, Ozil smoking, etc etc.  As long as he's not doing a full Socrates I couldn't care less if he has a few smokes to unwind on vacation.

Wilshere seems to spend roughly half of his free time being a dad, a quarter of it befriending young kids with cancer, and a quarter of it partying. We all know which one the Daily Mail cares about.
