I don’t think I’ve really ever used 3D Touch in the years I’ve had it. It’s cute for Live Photo’s etc. but a hold on the photo could do the same thing. I think it’s really useless to nearly everyone.

We’re basically back to the point of 1997 where there’s like 15 models all over the place, no one knows what to buy and it took Steve Jobs in 1998 to come back and basically simplify things into the 4 models.

I’m not Tim Cook and obviously they have a plan but it’s really confusing. I’m guessing the iPhone X production return is due to emerging markets and not for US, which makes complete sense. The analysts following Apple are pretty awful in general.
Funny, I use it approximately 100 times a day for various apps, open links, etc.

I have dropped my iPhone 7 probably 50 times since I got it a year and a half ago. I have just a basic case with no screen protector. I dropped it face down this morning on the sidewalk, and smashy smash, screen is busted.
I am going to upgrade, but not sure what to get. I don't want a giant phone, so I am debating between the X, XR, and XS.
XS is 41.66/month
XR is 31.24/month
X is 37.49/month

Looking at the verizon website, it looks to me like the XR is the better phone. Slightly bigger screen, better battery life, and better reviews. I am not too concerned about the monthly price, the 5-6 bucks a month won't kill me. So which is the better option here?

I bought a Xs, but found it too small for my tastes, having used the plus models for the last few years. My wife and daughter have Xr's and I considered switching to a Xr, but two months of the OLED screen had me hooked on the screen qualify, so I sold the Xs and bought a Xs Max. I think it's great, but that's because I have always preferred a bigger phone. The only drawback on the Xr that I can see is the screen, but it's the same screen as the 7, so if you're fine with it, that's the phone I'd recommend.

If you are happy with your 7, a $149 screen replacement at the Apple Store is also an option.

But since you are looking to upgrade...also consider the additional costs.

The Apple Store is running a promotion now, if you're going to buy a XR or XS, where they will give you $100 in trade-in value for a 7 with a busted screen, or $250 for a 7 with a good screen.

AppleCare+ is also cheaper for the XR ($149) than the X or XS ($199). Also, screen replacement if you don't have AppleCare is cheaper for the XR ($199) than the XS ($279).

Don't buy an X from Verizon - it has an older processor - you're better off with an XR or an XS.

I personally have the XS, which is an amazing phone - the best that money can buy IMHO (and also almost the same size as the 7), but would be *more* than happy to have an XR. Both phones share the same processor and main camera (both are superb). The XR has better battery life than the XS, but the XS battery life is also very good.

Reasons to spend more on the XS - if they don't matter to you, buy the XR:
- the OLED screen is top-notch (pun sorta intended) - color quality, really black blacks, higher resolution, etc.
- Telephoto lens - doesn't exist on the XR
- latest generation of shatter-resistant glass on the front and back (the XR has older glass on the back)

Rudi's (and BH's) reasons to spend more (or not) are spot on. Unless those things matter to you, the XR is a great value and probably the best iPhone on offer in terms of value for the majority of people. Note of caution- it is larger and slightly heavier than the X or XS. That took a few days to get used to, but I don't even notice anymore. The battery life is absolutely insane (which I never imagined saying about an iPhone).

I'm a big Apple stan and generally upgrade every year, but I have no regrets about getting the XR versus the XS. Either way you'll be good.

Thanks guys. I am leaning towards the XR, I think I would be plenty happy with it. I have never been one needing to have the latest and greatest technology wrt the XS

I picked up the New AirPods today because the battery in mine were dying. The faster connecting is great. They’re louder. We’ll see about battery life.

So, I have a weird problem that I can seem to figure out. I was testing phone links on my company's website, and when I clicked one, I accidentally hit "block" when asked about launching another app (e.g., the phone app). Now I can't unblock phone links (and the subsequent launching of the phone app from within Chrome). I've spent way too much time trying to figure out if it's a setting in Chrome, a site permission in Chrome, an app permission controllable from iPhone settings or something else...

It's driving me nuts. I'd appreciate any help. I've been all over Google, but I'm not sure how to phrase the question in a way the produces meaningful search results. So far, no luck.

Have you tried clearing cache and history to see if that makes a difference? It’s a bit of a long shot but you never know.
I did, thanks. No dice. But my wife (who's much smarter than I about all things Apple) just shut Chrome down and restarted. That seems to have solved the issue. So small, but such an annoying little thing...

The initial problem. Not my wife's fixing it.

Or my wife.

So I'm eligible for an upgrade through work. An iphone X (not Xs) would cost me $50 out of pocket. I currently have a 7+ that I am perfectly happy with. Is it a no brainer that I upgrade? Is there anything else that is worth waiting for instead? I don't want to re-set my 2 year upgrade clock if something awesome is coming out in the fall.

I'm in the same boat. I'm just getting the XS in May and calling it a day. I have an 8 now and I'm fine with it but try to upgrade when I can. There's little info out about the new phones outside of a better camera and possibly bigger batteries.

I have the XS Max but I can’t tell you how much better it is than a 7 or 8. I do know that I do like the FaceID a lot, much better than touchID. The extra real estate provided by the notch and smaller bezel is great. Siri seems to work pretty well at voice recognition.

I recently bought an Xr (see above) and I really like it. I had a 7 before that, and have an 8 that I have to use for work, and they don’t compare to the Xr. Battery life, bigger screen, and even the Face ID are serious game changers.

General iOS question -

An account called me today from his cell; his company logo was in the little circle where I would add his profile picture. I sure as shit didn’t add it. How do you have it show on someone else phone? I’ve exhausted my Google fu and can’t figure out where to do it. Anyone help? Was this on a recent update?

Are you syncing any other contacts with your phone (Google, linkedin, whatever)?

The app “Halide” allows the Xr to use portrait mode for any photos, not just photos of people. It costs $4.99

Yeah I’m not a photo guy, other than perhaps my fiancée or maybe my nieces and nephew I don’t want to see anyone’s ugly mug when my phone rings. This is coming from his end.

Negative and I’m not even sure this guy is on LinkedIn. Would Facebook do it?
At one time, I think yes. Not sure if that's still the case, and if it did, it would normally pull his profile pic from Facebook (unless his FB profile pic is his company logo?!?!)
