I know this isn't a game thread but please allow me a one-liner anyway:

Yay.

Addition by subtraction.  Never understood how he fit in with what the Sox were trying to do.  Free swinging hacker with questionable defense and a checkered history in the clubhouse, glad he's gone

Holy crap.  Does this mean that absolutely NOBODY - no contending team with a need for a veteran, LH-hitting backup C - wanted him in a deal? Or does this mean that a deal is forthcoming?

Wow - kudos to Ben for not screwing around and admitting when he was wrong.

Welp, that was a short ride.

I'm one of the few that doesn't hate AJP. He's always been entertaining, a decent player, and he had a few clutch hits for the 2014 Sox.

Best of luck, AJ.

The thoughts of a....

JBJ
Marrero/Pedroia

.... Up the middle defense makes me so incredibly happy.

It means they tried, but other teams knew they were desperate and held off. If a team really wants him, they'll move before he's simply released and that team has to deal with others who might want him

Our 3+ month long nightmare comes to an end.

The Sox are one of the worst teams in baseball with one of the worst offenses.  The nightmare may not be over yet.

I am one of the few who felt that AJ's "clubhouse issues" are way overblown and that he has been given an undeserved bad rap over the years.

That said, his approach at the plate in no way fit this Red Sox team and his bat hurt this offense in a major way. I'm thrilled to see him gone.

The AJP signing never made sense to me, and nothing about his play justified it either.  Good riddance.  Welcome, Christian!

Not much trade value for an aging catcher who can't hit or play decent D. DFA was the right move. Excited for Vasquez.

Buster Olney was on the radio today and said interest in AJ was minimal due to defensive concerns and lack of hitting of late.

At the very least, RDLR will be more comfortable tonight.  AJP was responsible for Buchholz's home runs, or at least one of them.

I'm going to call the AJP experiment a Valentine...bring in a guy that you know has baggage, people will probably not like, but might work out if everything goes well, and is easily dropped and replaced by the player you really want but need to wait for.

If it works, hey, it worked!  If it doesn't, everyone is happy when he's gone.

Defending champs now employing FIVE rookie position players - Holt, Vazquez, Betts, Bogaerts, Bradley.  Unheard of.

If we are "investing in players for the future" then the next move has to be Xander at short and Holt to third with Mookie in right.

Stephen Drew isn't the "future"

If it works, it works.  If it doesn't, your season is over by June.
