I'll say it--he should take week off to get himself straightened out.

EDIT: More seriously, what's the story here?

Hopefully 1) the child is ok and 2) this was some sort of dumb mistake and not something malicious. Anyone familiar with Texas law?

Could not have come at a worse time for the NFL whatever the case may be.

I'm pretty sure that 4 is "for", and not meant to signify 4 counts.

Yep, I used to follow Mark Berman when I lived in Houston and he's notorious 4 using numbers 2 shorten his tweets.

His attorney is Rusty Hardin, who butchered Clemens' PED case.  So he is in serious trouble.

Pretty vague wording, but it hints at child abuse or worse.

Guess we'll need to wait for the details.  No doubt someone (TMZ?) will have then shortly.

Jerry Jones may have to pull some strings.

All kidding aside, I hope the kid is ok.

One wonders if they err on the side of super-cautious re: his status.

He screwed up by pushing a strategy that got his client indicted, but Hardin did win at trial.  It's also possible that his screw up was related to Clemens lying to him.

Not meaning to defend Hardin, who creeps me out.  But he's a pretty good trial lawyer.

What?
Hopefully the Vikings have the good sense not to have the child tweet an apology for its part in the incident.

I'm not one to excuse bad behavior, but as the son of a social worker cum divorce lawyer, keep in mind that children and accusations regarding them are prevalent in custody/support disputes.

I don't care how much anyone hates Goodell, this entire week has a been a shitstorm of a PR nightmare I wouldn't wish sports figure.

Do hope this isn't "child ABUSE" as alleged and that kid is okay

Sounds very similar to the time when Carl Everett had his children taken away because it was noted at school (or was it preschool?) that one of them had welts all over their body.  Everett's defense was that the bible sanctioned his use of corporal punishment, which is why he beat his kids with his belt.

Took some time, but he got his kids back and was never charged.

This was in the 90s in New York City.  Things really have changed if corporal punishment now results in an indictment in Texas.  But I guess we have to see how seriously the child was injured.

Goodell wants to ask the kid if he still loves his dad before deciding what to do.

I hope when Roger interviews the kid with Adrian in the room he at least leaves the switch outside.

Minneapolis Star-Tribune says it's one of two children he has in Texas, each of which lives with their respective mothers.

Well, I should have explained more to avoid that sounding different from how I meant it.  I believe that Texas is one of the few places left where corporal punishment is still permitted (and I also think leads the nation in incidents of corporal punishment).

An indictment for a parent who uses a switch where educators can paddle children is surprising.

I assume Petersen must have been a bit out of control.

Goodell has no good path here. Zero. No decision can be made without criticism. 2 game suspension and he gets killed that Rice is serving more and why is beating women worse than children. Indefinite and he gets killed that Rice walked away with 2 games. Investigation and he gets killed that he needs to take action more swiftly.

While I hate that a child may have been abused here (though I sorta hate children), I gotta say

I really don't see how you can discipline before this case takes its course.  This is a significant problem with the NFL becoming the moral police - whats a switching worth and who decides?  I don't agree with corporal punishment at all but where do you draw the line.  Why is DV worth 6 games?  What's a DUI worth?  Is there a sentencing guideline somewhere?

TMZ: It was a child visiting from Minnesota back in May. Child went home to mom who noticed bruises.

You draw the line at the point the dude is indicted. This wasn't a smack upside the kid's head.

You can indict a ham sandwich as they always say - in fact, they didn't have enough the first time so this is clearly not an open and shut case.

Because everyone who ever was indicted is guilty of something?

Is this at all related to his son's death or something entirely different?
I hope to God it isn't.  Reading further, it appears to be another child of his (11yo) that he punished with a switch.

Michael Sam's "distractions" seem a lot less distracting lately.
Michael Sam suiting up and playing stellar defense would be the best part of this short season, by a long shot.  I'm rooting for him as it is, but even more so as it will finally be good news for the NFL - not saying it should (or would) push the DV and alleged child abuse to the back burner, just looking for something positive to take away from the first week plus of this season.
