Lamet is the 31st pitcher for the Red Sox this season (yes, including Reyes)

I’d make all check swings not swinging strikes. If you try to stop swinging at any point, it’s not a real swing.

But then I’d get rid of balks as well.

Isbel is the elephant in the room, in terms of bad decisions.

Speaking of dead ass teams, the Royals are through scoring for the night

Bernardino is an interesting name. San Bernardino is a city in California. It is named after the crazy Franciscan Sienese missionary, Bernardino. He was famous for burning books and bonfires of the vanities. He was also a hardcore anti-Semite, which was good enough to get him canonized by Rome in 1450. He is the Patron Saint of Siena College.

Siena is also famous for its annual horse race, held in the massive Piazza del Campo.

Siena College's mascot is Baloo, a Saint Bernard. This is funny, because Saint Bernard is actually a different person from Saint Bernardino. I know, right? Two Bernards. Bernard was actually French -- from Menthon, which is now named Menthon-Saint-Bernard, a lovely village in the East of France on Lac d'Annecy. By all accounts, Bernard was a good guy, who founded a hopice and was particularly known for his treatment of the sick and weary travelers. Naturally, though venerated for centuries, he was not canonized until 1681. Prior to the Enlightenment, it was hard to get canonzied for being a humanist. You needed to burn shit and torture people for usury. So it goes.

I can't explain whether Siena college is confused, or whether they kind of want to whitewash the fact their patron saint was a putz by associating themselves with one of the Earth's most noble and lovable creatures.

Anyway, San Bernardino's baseball team plays in the colorful California League -- the Island Empire 66ers. They play in the same division as the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes and the Lake Elsinore Storm. I went to some games there once and on the way out -- I think in Rancho Cucamonga -- they were giving out bread. Whole loaves. Called "Bimbo" bread. Off of big green pallets. One per family, which is kind of bullshit. Should have been one per person. It was basically like Wonder Bread -- the kind some kids would cut the crust off.

Menthon to Siena is, according to google maps, a drive of about 720 km by the most convenient route. It's a tough route to travel by train -- you'd need to change in Turin, Milan, and probably Florence.

Lamet? More like "LAME", amirite????

The "t" would be eligible for the great silent character thread in Omar.
