Chaim Bloom may well have been right not to do anything at the deadline. Who knew what he could get for the Duvalls, Paxton etc and going for it is a bit aggressive given the AL East meatgrinder. If they can still fight into the WC great but this team has so many question marks at present.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Unfortunately, tonight would have been the last night he could have been on rehab assignment
I had assumed it was at least a couple more days due to the online bru-ha-ha over him wanting to finish the rehab assignment.

But, fantastic that he's here to K for the major league club.

But he’s also got to be accountable for them once again not being a team worth investing in. He’s had time to make the mlb roster better

(now I brace myself for the avalanche of comments about injuries etc)

Raffy has been absolutely awful.
this is far and away the most important issue for this team and its future. He either needs to become a substantially better fielder (not likely) or improve his approach and overall offensive production

Accountable to whom?
us. “We’re all Britons!!”

In short, while there are some things to be excited about farm wise and in terms of the core, this is still a big market with really high prices and really shitty on field performance

ownership will 100 pct send him packing if they feel the fans are losing interest and not confident in the approach and future

So they had PFP this afternoon, and Bernardino still tossed the pickoff throw into CF?

To me, that's the only entity Bloom is accountable to. Not SoSH or EEI or the Fens faithful. His timeline is exactly as long as FSG tolerates his team building. Frankly, this season they have exceeded my expectations but its abundantly clear that many others here are done with him. But again, it really doesn't matter what "we" think. FSG signs his paychecks.

Agreed. Time to move on from Cora and his coaches. This team over the last few years is the worst Red Sox team defense ever, plus bone head plays on the base paths. In other words Cora and his coaches don't prepare good.
Wasn't exactly a brilliant move batting Story third in his first game.

Devers career is a 124 OPS+ guy with below average defense. This year, he’s been a 125 OPS+ guy with below average defense. Giving a guy a ton of money isn’t going to change the kind of player he is. If we were expecting a lot more than we’ve gotten, that may be on us.

I would say Raffy's 2023 is a really weird and abnormally shitty 125 OPS+ thus far. The numbers are what the numbers are, but it's been HR or bust, and a lot of legit awful AB's.

He’s .025 off his career best OBP and .034 off his career best SLG. He has the exact same SLG as last year (going into tonight’s game). I feel like everyone expects him to be a different player because he got a ton of money, when he’s pretty much been the guy he’s always been….just getting paid more.

They've got 8 "easy" games coming up.

Unfortunately they've played themselves into a corner where they have to win 7 or 8 of those to claw back into contention.

Unless they tread water and go on a torrid streak against more difficult teams later in the summer.

Fair enough but he’s at an age where some players DO improve. I think the $300 million was a bet on some improvement at the plate, in the field or both

The pitching blows

Witt
Salvy
Isbel, whose unit would be batting .400 if he had at bats only against the Red Sox
And 6 no names
