I’ve been told that I’ve been Drinking The Kool-Aid more than once with this team, and I reply that it tastes more like Champagne to me with four titles in twenty years. But this week and especially yesterday have been a real kick in the teeth, I know you can’t control injuries and funny bounces, but bad defense, odd bullpen choices, and especially stupid baserunning CAN be controlled. And whatever the Verdugo thing was (I haven’t read the board yet if info has come out) . . .

Have we been fooled two years in a row at the trade deadline by winning streaks making us think we shouldn’t trade a couple veterans for some prospects? Fool me once . . .

This team doesn’t have to make the Playoffs this year, although it would be nice. But if they don‘t turn things around soon then it may be time for Cora to go. And if they aren’t really competitive next year then I think we know the Chaim Bloom Experience has been a failure. I won’t go full SJH on the team but I will be angry. And they won’t like me when I’m angry.

I just saw the highlights from yesterday and that last out. I mean… there’s no world where running in that play was the right move. Go halfway. If it hits the wall, he scores easily. If it’s a homer, well obviously he scores. But if it’s caught, you can get back in time.

That’s basic stuff you learn in little league. No joke.

So Red Sox….

Please do better today. Thank you.

Sincerely,
A fan

I saw the headline, "Kiermaier snag and double play ends it" and figured it was like the Juan Pierre game back in 2003 where he made a diving catch and doubled the runner off second (Varitek, I think) to end the game in Fenway.

Nope, just a routine fly ball that everyone decided to run on. Absolutely disgusting play.

Hoping for a run like yours, JtB
Please get a legendary case of the runs! We need some dirty water!

edit…. Also really pissed at this team. Since that Oakland series IMO they haven’t played with the required urgency and focus. Top to bottom.
They got one full year remaining with The Bloom Vision. Generally I’m a believer and I suspect the lack of focus is Cora’s casual attitude that opens up space for young players to be sloppy

Turner was back in yesterday
Verdugo was in yesterday's lineup too...for a while.

Yesterday made me think of Jimy letting Pedro get the win in relief when pulled from making the start for being late to the park and not calling anyone. Bryce Florie made the start, IIRC.

Florie went 4.2 innings before being pulled. He deserved better

I usually feel the same way, but today I'm going to a concert. Good luck for me, as I am totally disheartened about the Sox at the moment.
If Story doesn't feel ready yet, that, too, is disappointing. Just one damned thing after another with this team.

Rice and Papelbon on NESN were already criticizing Story a couple of days ago for playing but not joining the MLB battle. What next?

Story has found a new path in life. To be the greatest Woo Sox of all time and someday run for mayor of Worcester. He’s never leaving. His heart belongs to Worcester now.

We are going to the Orange County Fair. Fried oreos and turkey legs will distract me from this team

How is this Story’s call? It’s one thing if he still doesn’t feel quite right…. But it doesn’t really sound that way. Sounds more like he’s just enjoying Worcester
i messed up the joke

Story staying in Worcester through Wednesday. Hard to know for sure without the video of Cora’s response, but it’s hard not to read a little frustration in his words as Cora says that it was Story’s decision.

VLADIMIR: Did you not hear what the child said?
ESTRAGON: No.
VLADIMIR: He said that Godot was sure to come tomorrow. (Pause.) What do you say to that?
ESTRAGON: Then all we have to do is to wait on here.
VLADIMIR: Are you mad? We must take cover. (He takes Estragon by the arm.) Come on. (He draws Estragon after him. Estragon yields, then resists. They halt.)
ESTRAGON: (looking at the tree). Pity we haven't got a bit of rope.
VLADIMIR: Come on. It's cold. (He draws Estragon after him. As before.)
ESTRAGON: Remind me to bring a bit of rope tomorrow.
VLADIMIR: Yes. Come on. (He draws him after him. As before.)
ESTRAGON: How long have we been together all the time now?
VLADIMIR: I don't know. Fifty years maybe.
ESTRAGON: Do you remember the day I threw myself into the Rhone?
VLADIMIR: We were grape harvesting.
ESTRAGON: You fished me out.
VLADIMIR: That's all dead and buried.
ESTRAGON: My clothes dried in the sun.
VLADIMIR: There's no good harking back on that. Come on. (He draws him after him. As before.)
ESTRAGON: Wait!
VLADIMIR: I'm cold!
ESTRAGON: Wait! (He moves away from Vladimir.) I sometimes wonder if we wouldn't have been better off alone, each one for himself. (He crosses the stage and sits down on the mound.) We weren't made for the same road.
VLADIMIR: (without anger). It's not certain.
ESTRAGON: No, nothing is certain. (Vladimir slowly crosses the stage and sits down beside Estragon.)
VLADIMIR: We can still part, if you think it would be better.
ESTRAGON: It's not worthwhile now. (Silence.)
VLADIMIR: No, it's not worthwhile now. (Silence.)
ESTRAGON: Well, shall we go?
VLADIMIR: Yes, let's go. (They do not move. Cut.)

This could be my version of @Reverend posting Jack Smith pics.

Trevor Story will play again for Worcester on Tuesday and Wednesday. His rehab assignment clock expires Wednesday. The Red Sox will reassess the situation then, Alex Cora says. He still is working on bouncing back after back to back games

If that's the final issue, and who knows, can't he just play 2 out of every 3 with the major-league team?

I’ve always liked Cora but thought he was sometimes too much of a players manager (I connect this to the lack of fundamentals and all too frequent mental mistakes)

i wonder if he’s now feeling a bit betrayed and that anger is coming out. Not a bad thing really. Maybe some of these players do need a wake up call

Game 111
Verdugo sat even though things were dire.
The dumbass baserunning gaffe by McGuire.
The post-game comments where Cora flashed ire.
Saturday’s game was a true dumpster fire.
(Hope those flames are not out funeral pyre.)
The whole team seems to be stuck in the mire
since we were neither a seller or buyer.
Everything seems to be going haywire.
We seem like Sox who’ve been lost in the dryer.
The post season spot to which we aspire
is further away than t’was the day prior.
If we really want it, it will require
the team to focus and aim a bit higher.
Here’s one more true fact (cause I’m not a liar.)
We should always wear that yellow attire.
For now, win a game. That’s my sole desire.

This is amazingly like an AL east road game for the Sox. Probably 50% Toronto fans here. Looks like about 75/25 mix of team shirts in favor of Toronto. I have seen higher percentages of Red Sox fans when I went to Camden yards. Hopefully those not here early will be mostly Sox fans.

On Friday afternoon, I spoke with a Toronto fan who was in town to go to that night's game. I told him there would be a ton of Blue Jay fans there and that they might topple the Cardinals' fan contingent who seemed to get to about 70% of the total crowd a few years back.
