My wife is a Mariners fan. I'd like life to be a little harder for her today than it was yesterday, and for me to be the one carefully not celebrating too much around my spouse. Just don't look too closely at the starting pitching matchup--just like yesterday... whatever, beat 'em anyway.

Let's escalate tensions in the Wallball household, Sox!

Reverse lock???
Maybe Pivetta goes on a 6 week hot streak like last season?

Game 43
Four games in a row, each worse than the last.
The Red Sox are slumping and fading fast.
Just weeks ago, we were all believers.
Were we just fooled by overachievers?
Confident heading into this homestand,
the games have not gone the way we had planned.
The offense just isn’t clicking these days.
The defense can’t seem to turn double plays.
When starters throw well, the pen lets us down.
Will we win a game before we leave town?
The team has looked cooked in their recent games.
(like the “This is fine” dog sitting in flames.)
Still, I’ll admit that if someone told me
a quarter way through the season we’d be
over 500 and right in the race
for a playoff spot (which is still the case),
I’d’ve signed up for a season like this,
with its peaks and valleys, torture and bliss.
The team’s fun to watch (on most days at least),
and though they’re a longshot to win the East,
they’ve got wily vets and kids that will grow.
Bounce back. Believe. There’s a long way to go.

Good to see that you're immune to slumps!

It's kind of amazing we're a quarter of the way through the season. Never feels like baseball season fully starts until the Celtics and Bruins' seasons are over.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
To this point, only the White Sox and the A's have allowed more HR this season
One has to wonder if this is a result of a top-down "pound the zone" philosophy?

Kluber, Pivetta, Bello, Whitlock, Houck. . .have all seen huge jumps in their HR/9 numbers. A career worst for Kluber, and double for some of the younger guys.

Jansen and Sale are within norms.

Wife (chipper): "Cal Raleigh is the first catcher to hit a homer from both sides of the plate in one game at Fenway!"

Me: *grits teeth, stares ahead, looks at today's score*
