The Angels come to the Bronx after losing three of four in Boston. It would be nice to keep their misery going. MLB is really pushing the Ohtani vs Judge thing, which whatever, but I'd rather just celebrate two amazing athletes, but I'm more magnanimous as I get older.

Tuesday, April 18: J. Suarez (0-1, 10.80 ERA) at C. Schmidt (0-0, 8.44 ERA), 7:05 p.m. EDT
Wednesday, April 19: Canning (0-0, 3.60 ERA) at Brito (2-1, 6.75 ERA), 7:05 p.m. EDT
Thursday, April 20: Sandoval (1-0, 1.23 ERA) at Cortes (2-0, 2.60 ERA), 4:05 p.m. EDT

Really need Schmidt and/or Brito to step up like German did in his last start.

Sitting Oswaldo inexplicably.

Schmidt only has to face two lefties tonight, so if he’s ever going to come up big, tonight’s the night (nod to Neil).

Back to somewhat cold tonight. low 50s or even high 40s during the game.

Looking forward to seeing Peraza again, so that's good at least.

Don't like IKF and Hicks playing on the same day. I wonder if there is an aversion to having Volpe, Cabrera and Peraza all in the lineup at the same time right now.

I know it's silly, but my conspiratorial mind makes me wonder if the organization wants to avoid shitty headlines and the increased pressure that comes with it if the kids struggle and the Yankees lose.

Better when Hicks and IKF can be the clear scapegoats.

Again, yeah, I know. It's silly.

Not bad contact by Peraza, probably gets a hit on that if there is no force at 3rd. They should definitely hit Suarez sooner or later

Checked the live score of the Knicks just before I got to halftime with NY down 17, checked the final Yankee score at 4-0 in the 4th, a lot of time freed up tonight. :)

Yanks’ offense really misses Stanton. Judge is slumping a bit. Volpe not contributing much. He did walk twice tonight, including once with the bases loaded. Peraza got one hit and scored a run.

Clarke Schmidt not doing himself or the team any good.

All the earned runs scored off the starters for both teams, 11 innings with 0 ERs for the two bullpens combined.

Pretty sick of Calhoun, pretty sure that Jake Bauers would be both an offensive and defensive upgrade in that roster spot.

Incredible catch by Judge in CF, going over the fence to steal a 411 foot HR off Ohtani. It hit off his glove, came back into play and he caught it with his bare hand for the out.

Then Judge goes deep himself in the bottom of the inning, I am loving the Volpe leadoff era so far.

Volpe with two steals in the 3rd, tied for the league lead now at 9.

Seven of the most beautiful words a Yankee fan can read:

"Josh Donaldson is being shut down indefinitely."

He’s impacting this game, too. Bat, glove, speed, patience at plate.
That was a sweet play on the one-hopper up the middle, NY has played great team defense since the start of 2022 and the crazy thing is they are currently doing it without their best defensive OF (Bader) and their best defensive IF (Peraza).

Also, big fan of Rizzo in the field, I know 1B is often misleading to the naked eye but I feel very comfortable with him out there, also he takes charge when needed, the infield captain.

King has slowly looked better basically every appearance, he missed the last few months last year and I think is still a bit rusty. That was a sweet pitch to get Ohtani though.

Hahaha Oswaldo, I am OK with that.

They took the first of these away because he didn't go until the pitch bounced, but it barely got away from the C, I thought that was even more impressive than a typical SB.

So back to 8-8 temporarily, feels like he can take second whenever he tries, I am not sure why he doesn't try even more often.

NY has hit the ball very well a bunch of times in these first two games with runners on, always right at people.

Are they stretching King out to start? Curious why they are letting him work through his wildness.
Schmidt and Brito did not cover many innings the last two nights, 44 is probably around his ideal pitch count, maybe every 3-4 days.

I don't get why Volpe didn't run there, if he takes third he scores on Gleyber's fly ball. I don't get why he wasn't going from the start of the inning either, he should run every pitch possible like Rickey Henderson. Thank you.

Yeah that's a check swing, the dumbest man in baseball (Phil Nevin) is correct.

Nevin got thrown out by one ump and on his way to yell at him in his face, got thrown out by a second who didn't know he'd already been tossed.

Yeah I fell a little behind, thanks to the Manfred Men for putting us out of our misery.

Nestor tomorrow at 4 PM EST, going for another series win.

I have not been on social media but I really don't get the strategy tonight, Volpe and Peraza got on to lead off late in a tie game in consecutive innings and neither tried to run, and why is Volpe bunting there?

Didn't care for the bunt attempt either, unless they thought Volpe had a solid chance to bunt for a base hit with his speed. But I don't think that was the thought process.

Edit: As far as running goes, I wonder if the Yankees have more of a tendency to run on SPs (better scouting and more ABs/pitches seen), than on RPs. At least early in the season. Particularly this season with the new pitch clock and pitchers changing their routines.

Probably not, given that it is also easier to steal. But I wonder if there is a little more uncertainty until they see guys a bit more. Dunno.

I hope they've got a good reason and aren't being conservative for the sake of being conservative.

Phil Rizzuto would have been very disappointed with Volpe’s lame bunt pop up to the pitcher. Volpe was so embarrassed he stood next to Aaron Hicks on the dugout step. Misery loves company.

Agree about the bunts and Volpe not running early in the count. Judge can handle the distraction.

Gleyber still slumping but he got the job done with his fly ball in the 10th.

This is a team in transition, with aging dead wood veterans holding back the youth movement. 11-7 despite playing short handed.

There is no way Volpe bunting is the right play there, Judge is going to be walked either way if Volpe makes an out. The pitcher has to go at Volpe or risk bases loaded/no one out after Judge, very bad call by Boone (or whoever made that call).

Also I got an El Duque flashback in the 9th, Holmes not caring if he walked the bases loaded for Rendon, he was not going to let Ohtani or Trout beat him.

OK, the "ohhh Anthony" part got me.

I miss that guy.
Me, too. Volpe’s background is so similar to Phil’s. Local kid playing shortstop for the Yankees. Volpe‘s BA is over .200 now. His OBP is .336 so he’s walking a lot and he works long counts frequently. Great eye and plate discipline. His fielding borders on impressive after a few early hiccups. Now we just need Peraza to get his chance, or is he trade bait?
