That was not close to an all-time gaffe. It was basically like that time Wideman broke his stick and gave up a breakaway against the Flyers in 2010.the Bruins have been poorly run since their last Cup run and lucky to sneak into the playoffs this year.
I feel for the diehards griping about the reffing but it took an all-time gaffe from Ryan in the 2nd to get this to OT. good luck on the rest of the series, I don't see it... but hockey can be the most random of hte four major sports
He's no better than his Sith Lord David Stern so he'll ignore the issue entirely.Good thing Bettman was there to see it . . . Oh wait.
Yep. Even if you ignore Ryan's elbow (pretend you are a blind zebra or something), what the ref did see should have been, at the very least, offsetting minors. Here'a a better angle and Pierre even calling it a farce. Convinced it was a dive too. Ryan elbow's Nash in the head, Nash give him a shove to the face, and Ryan jerks his head back and a second later decides to kick his legs out.
"I really just thought that Nash enjoys chicken wings a lot"Bobby Ryan: "I might have made a little contact, but it's an unfortunate play" (Cut to replay that shows the blatant elbow)
They've taken Ottawa to OT twice without 4 of their 6 regular season D men. And the series is far from over. The Bruins played great tonight. They were just outgunned. Tommy Cross is an AHL player in and NHL overtime. I'm still proud of this team.
This shouldn't be a very difficult question to answer.Aside from the shitty refereeing, what has happened to he Bruins number one ranked penalty kill? They've allowed 3 power play goals in 3 games and a 4th was scored right when a power play ended

Dude, take a deep breath. They've taken Ottawa to OT twice without 4 of their 6 regular season D men. And the series is far from over.
Injuries to Krug, Carlo, McQuaid and Krejci contributed. All four play the PK.Aside from the shitty refereeing, what has happened to he Bruins number one ranked penalty kill? They've allowed 3 power play goals in 3 games and a 4th was scored right when a power play ended
I know you want to say injuries, but did Colin Miller and Torey Krug see a lot of PK time? They still have Chara and Miller out there and chara always sees the most ice time on the PKThis shouldn't be a very difficult question to answer.
No, Krug and Colin Miller didn't. But Carlo and McQuaid sure as shit did, and they're getting replaced by what's left.I know you want to say injuries, but did Colin Miller and Torey Krug see a lot of PK time? Tough crowd. Bad play, butI expect him to not stand in place and let his man skate right by him
Asking what happened to the PK is nancying? Where have I said this series is over or that they were done? You could make a case that the Bruins have outplayed Ottawa more than the other way around, and I still like them to get this to 6 or 7 games with it going either way. So stop making shit up.No, Krug and Colin Miller didn't. But Carlo and McQuaid sure as shit did, and they're getting replaced by what's left.
If you're going to endlessly Nancy in every game thread, at least do it logically.
McQuaid for sure, I thought Carlo kind of played poorly for most of the second half of the season so I'm not sure how much of a benefit he was out there. But fair enough, I suppose if morrow is seeing ice time as a PKer, you're kind of fucked.Carlo and McQuaid are like 2 of their top 4 PKers. Try again.
They're still going to to win this series. Bad luck and bad Redding aside they have outplayed Ottawa overallAnd I'm completely serious. This team was down 3-0 in the 2nd with 4 defenseman out and Krejci playing with a broken elbow and they went to OT. Giant Balls on these guys.
I absolutely agree. I have, admittedly, made a lot of posts in the last couple months questioning this team, but this season has been a lot of fun to watch. And the best part is that, like the 2010 Sox, this team feels like they are just a step or two away from being a long term contender. This team ranks with the 2010 Red Sox as some of my favorite teams of all time. Just a resilient bunch. I'm proud to be alongtime season ticket holder.
I was fed up with this team when they created the shitshow around Claude's firing. But their play under Cassidy has been fun to watch. Every time they get into adversity they come out the other side. If they can get 1 or 2 D-men back on Wednesday I like their chances. They just have to get guys like Cross and Liles off the ice.I absolutely agree. But I still hate every hockey team from Canada that isn't Calgary or Edmonton.
Wouldn't have invoked him if it hadn't been Ryan who punched in the OT winner. But my rage at the Refs after all the non-calls and then that is, I think, rightfully at that high a level. Awful. You had to bring Scott Walker. Although last time we do. The cup two years later....
Fallacy. They were in 3-0 hole and battled back. At 3-3 going into OT they had every reason to expect to win. And if they didn't then teams never do.Can't dig a 3-0 hole and expect to win. Got to bring that energy all game on Wednesday.
Agreed, and that shit call was immediately following a number of shit non-calls that should have benefited them.Fallacy. They were in 3-0 hole and battled back. At 3-3 going into OT they had every reason to expect to win. And if they didn't then teams never do.
Then refs made shit call directly leading to goal.
Yes they should play better, but saying "hey it was 3-0" is a separate point.
I'm not minimizing their effort to come back in any way nor do I not think they "expected to win" going into OT. It's a fact that the percentage are very, very low of winning a game when you fall behind 3-0 especially against a team that plays the style Ottawa does. They made a monumental effort given their personnel to get themselves back into the game but that's all it did. It's a shame they didn't come out with the kind of physical effort and energy(along with less passing through the 1-3-1) at the start of the game because the results of what they did could have put them in the lead instead of spending all of that effort just to tie it.Fallacy. What about the fact that Ottawa was committing infractions they were not called for - which negated scoring opportunities and advantages that the Bruins deserved by the rules? When Pastrnak is busting his butt the way you are advocating for and is knocked on his backside preventing his scoring the Bruins have lost both the opportunity to benefit from their own effort and the opportunity to have the man advantage with all that it benefits. Everyone can agree that it was a shitty call. However, I'm not one to ever directly blame the officials for the result of a game and I'm not going to do it here. Chara was slow to change and that led to the odd man rush and the goal. They had enough chances of their own in regulation after it was tied that they could have buried and they didn't do it.
Agreed. Let's also not forget that elbow was delivered to the head of an off balance player regaining his footing from a hit a brief moment earlier. My frustration is not that it was a bad call, it was that it was bad call made inconsistently with the standard established during the game. If the refs are going to call a game tight or loose, that's their perogative, I can only reasonably expect that the calls remain consistent.
This was not one of those cases. A minor swat got called as if it was the blatant elbow to the head that immediately preceeded it, and that advantage led to the PP goal that won the game in OT.
Are we stuck with Tim Peel the rest of the series?
Edit: looked it up. The NHL rotates ref crews. We're not stuck with the worst ref in the NHL.
Look, that call was horrible and some of what you say I tend to agree with. The Bruins have played above their heads to this point and there's an argument they could have a 3-0 lead in the series. I'm just not going to the extreme you are about that the call was some kind of injustice and they were robbed of an equal chance to win. What about the fact that Ottawa was committing infractions they were not called for - which negated scoring opportunities and advantages that the Bruins deserved by the rules? I'm one of the last to blame an official for a team losing, but there is only so much a team can overcome in an effort to win. When the professional announcers who have no dog in the fight call the referee out on a terrible call (right in the moment) it seems obvious that it was terrible (and game changing) call. [That same announcer also had no issue calling out the mistakes of the Bruins on the losing play as well.]
I know it isn't what you mean - but it reads like you are saying that since they got down by X amount, they should have packed it in because they didn't deserve to win. Or that it doesn't matter that they were screwed because they could have won by playing well earlier in the game. I get taking care of your own business (I was always taught to never put myself in a position where a bad call could cost me a win/success), but it only goes so far. When the situations between competitors is theoretically exactly equal - and both teams are playing with everything they possess, do they not both deserve an equal chance to win? The Bruins are in my opinion playing over their heads with the injury situation they are dealing with. They have a 40ish year old captain playing on fumes because of the injuries (which has now directly contributed to 2 losses). The team is playing (for the most part) disciplined hockey because they know they can't put another penalty burden on the defense. As imperfect as their performance was in the first part of the game, in my opinion they have nothing left to give. I assume Ottawa fans would likely tell you the same - X, Y, Z is happening and they are giving it their all as well. In that moment of equality, why should they both not have equal chance to win? A referee being either biased or incompetent is often too much of a burden to overcome in that moment.
*IF* in overtime the Falcons had just crushed Brady after a play and left him in a mangled heap with an uncalled "roughing the passer" penalty on a 3rd down play and the Falcons had marched the field to win it - the greatest comeback in the history of NFL Superbowls would have been taken from us and it would have been OK, because they didn't deserve to win based on their earlier performance?
This isn't the Superbowl, it's only game 3 of a first round playoff series, and I don't like to blame the refs for calls made or missed, but that was a shitty call that stole from the Bruins a fair chance to win the game.
This is one of those seasons that will have a positive effect long term, not unlike 2008-2009. A few things:And I'm completely serious. This team was down 3-0 in the 2nd with 4 defenseman out and Krejci playing with a broken elbow and they went to OT. Giant Balls on these guys.
Yeah I heard it a couple of places last night. People I used to talk to at Ristuccia that I haven't seen for awhile. I think it's legit. As for Krejci, is it true he has a broken elbow? I hadn't seen that anywhere as I've been out of the loop a bit lately.
