Sox are going to be pretty good this year, a little better than last year. Prospects will progress nicely. They'll use all this to go grab a really good pitcher before the deadline and sneak into the playoffs. Then anything can happen. And it starts with a win tonight.

...or they suck, who knows

Look, I was a fan of this team when back these motherfuckers were *bad*, both in terms of results and in terms of being owned and assembled by a racist failson. So, like, shit can get worse than this. It was only a couple of years ago when they gently snuck into the Yankees' bedroom and smothered them with a pillow in the playoffs. Such a result is not totally insane this year. Let's focus on achieving it. SEA has great RH SP, but we have great LHH. Waking up tomorrow to a 1-0 record courtesy of 10-8 win is manifestly in play. Allez-y.

I don't really think the Sox are going to be very good this season, but I think it's possible. The rotation is the weakness, but I think they all have the potential to be average to fringe above average, and a couple maybe even a bit better than that.

I also feel like the Orioles will come back down to earth a bit, the Yankees will somewhat implode a bit, and both Tampa and Toronto have the potential to be good, but also could easily swing to average or not-so-good. It wouldn't be the biggest upset ever if the Red Sox sneak into a wild card slot with 85ish wins and the Rays/Jays/Yankees all win 78-84ish games.

Do I think it will happen? Not really. But it could. I think Kutter Crawford could be a sneaky all-star.

Happy Tyler O'Neill is in the lineup. He has homered in the last four opening days.
Wow -- that's an amazing stat. Just 78 HRs and 4 on consecutive opening days? That's wild. Carter and Berra had over 300 HRs, and Hundley had over 200.

I think Dwight Evans had a bunch of opening day home runs, but not all in a row I don't think.

Like an idiot, I somehow bought tickets to see Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai de Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles today at 7pm Pacific. Anyway, I expect when I emerge from my cinematic trance, the Sox will have won. Let's fucking go!

Thank god it’s opening day. Doesn’t really feel like baseball season, weather wise, but we’ve got at least 162 to look forward to. And god willing, perhaps even more. Play ball.

The poll is already closed, but the predictions contest is still open for some fleeting minutes.

Hat tip to j-man for noting recently it would behooooove the Sox to pile up some wins on this early swing out west. Well, you go to the season with the team you have., or something like that. Win tonight.

Finally got around to listening to Norah Jones' latest album tonight, and this has improved the mood. However, the eighth track is "I'm Awake," which is certainly in doubt beyond the first few innings tonight.

Can't wait to finally watch some Sox! It's already been a fun day with Opening Day, College Hoops and the Counter-Strike Copenhagen major.
