Just a defensive gem of a game. This isn’t last year. I don’t know what it is, but the flashing leather was very encouraging.

Even Raffi’s catch on J.P. Crawford’s popup near the third base dugout (5th inning) was made flawlessly with no drama. Not a web gem but a good mlb play. Maybe Cora has somehow installed them with an attitude of “hey guys, defense is not thaaat hard.”

Cora did say during ST that he thought Story's presence would enable Devers to cheat a bit towards the line.

Defense is incredibly hard, only nowhere near as hard as Chaim’s Calamity made it look last season.

Just watched the highlights (no NESN as of now). Rafaela looks like the real deal, super exciting. Devers oppo homers will always take me back to the one off Chapman in the Bidet. Super exciting for O’Neill. And Bello and Jansen holding it together.

One game, yadda yadda, but Cora and the boys should feel good about this one.

It’s a likeable team. Casas has this quirky Bill Walton personality. Rafaela might be the most exciting base runner since Ellsbury. Bello is developing into an ace. I think fans and media will really embrace this group because of the personalities, even if they just end up a 79 win team. Fans connect with homegrown players more it seems.

I've been walking around this morning just sort of chuckling about that O'Neill record. Records are meant to be broken and all, but wow, I think he's probably going to hold this one for a bit.

Here is the ultimate steal of home, well, except Robinson on Berra's Yanks. Great call by Jon Miller, stoic "that should never happen" (LHH batting for Boston) from Joe Morgan. JD looks like he could be taking a bite from a sandwich and a sip of coke during the whole thing.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Agent of chaos is certainly a good term for Duran. I just wish he had better baseball instincts. He's a great athlete without a doubt. He can perform the skills needed to play the game. He's not much of a ball player though.

He absolutely should have stolen home. I don't think he was even thinking about it though, despite how far down the line he got. He was too focused on distracting the pitcher and wound up distracting his teammate instead. Fortunately the run he represented wasn't crucial.
He's a work in progress. I think the "floor" of that work is a net positive, and it's really only a question of how much he can build on it.

Welp. He was quite consistent. If Crawford walks to lead off, that could have gone very differently. Might be 2-0 Mariners. At least it was a near miss, not like 3 inches outside.
I remarked, to no one as everyone else in the house was asleep, that I liked his zone and that he was consistent all night. All we can really ask for from a home plate ump.
