That first inning was amazing!
We listened to the first 45 minutes of the game on the way to Foxboro for the Revs game. Got to the stadium, parked, walked to the game, watched the entire soccer game, waited to walk back across rt. 1 to the car, and the Sox game had only ended a few seconds earlier.
So basically a long drive plus an entire soccer game took a lot less time than this baseball game. Thank god for the pitch clock, without it, they might still be playing now.

I hear Jansen can't go. Good news for us watching, I guess, but I think the team plans for him to contribute this season

I was watching a game at the end of last week, and I think it was Lou of the Sea that pointed out that Wong had quieted down his swing. IOST, but results look nice.

Something I think every time I watch this team in Spring Training---they're going to hit. They're near the top of the AL offensively every year. League average starting pitching and defense make this is a pretty competitive team. Pretty clear path to contending (as people have been saying all offseason)

Man, is it possible that Duran is actually pretty good? I’ve been a skeptic, but I’m happy to be very wrong. His speed is certainly game changing.
As exciting as that “double” was, Duran should have been on third base after the errant throw / air raid drill and then scored on the ensuing weak groundout by Yoshida. Duran deserves credit for improving defensively but, in so many other areas of his game, it seems the skills will never match the tools.

Weissert's got the sort of slider that everyone is terrified of, so half of them fail to even look for the fastball.

It's a very small sample size, obviously, and therefore means nothing, but Wong's k-rate this spring is only 17%, with 5 K's in 29 PA. If he could cut his K rate from 33% to even 25%, that would be a huge difference.

In recent years, it's seemed like most every other team had handfuls of relievers with high 90s fastballs and nasty breaking stuff, while most Red Sox middle relievers did not (except for hard-throwing Kaleb Ort!)
With new guys like Weissert, Slaten, Campbell, etc. hopefully this is starting to change.

Nice play by Story on grounder up the middle by Rosario - gloves it and rotates 360 to make the throw to 1st

Crawford with his 2nd 1-2-3 inning after giving up 2 in the 1st

Crawford gave up 3 straight hits in the first and 2 runs, but then settled down and got the next 12 hitters in a row.
Offense isn't doing much, just one run through 4.

Ha! 13 now....

Merloni opined that the Rays were looking to swing early, and Crawford adjusted off that.

Streak end at 13, oppo wall ball double. Then Raffi plays a weird (non) hop well, shows his arm, 2 down, runner on second. Story easy play to end the inning.

Devers blasts one back off the pitcher and ends up with an infield hit, and is promptly erased as he stumbled back to the bag on a pick off from the catcher.

Crawford back out to start the 6th.

Miami (oh, Miami!)
Casas looks like he's heating up at the right time.

Yoshida looks like he needs to get back to what made him dangerous in Japan. He's putting everything in play instead of walking.

And Winck with the one pitch easy groundout. Beautiful. McGuire mic'd up taliking to Kutter post inning in the dugout was pretty cool, too.
I'm listening to the WEEI broadcast and waiting on the T-Mobile offer. I'm sure a few of us are. (So if you want to drop any tidbits from the TV broadcast, they will not be unappreciated!)

Sure! Kutter with TC now, goal was going 5, with pitch count where it was, they pushed the 6th, and Crawford thought it was really big for him. The kid seems poised and confident. The mic'd up stuff w/McGuire was great, they talked about sequencing, and going further and further outside for one batter. Obvious they were on the same page and comfortable with the game plan. Great to see.

For those that can't even listen, Winck looked really good after a solid leadoff single, retired 3 straight, still 2-2.
