:)

Abreu comes up small after a passed ball put runners on 2nd and third. Awful AB. Cedanne played his way on to the team, per Cora and the main board. Is Abreu playing his way off?
I doubt it. He's had a rough spring but with Refsnyder out there's room for Ceddane and Wilyer, isn't there? Wilyer has also suffered from a miserable BABIP this spring. His numbers would look a lot better if he was batting .300 on balls in play rather than .200.

But Wilyer might be platooning or backing up, for the most part. I guess we'll see.

Anyways, we can all agree that Campbell's slider is making fools of the Pirates.

Yeah, Campbell looked very good. I also agree Wilyer is likely to be on the OD roster, all things considered. Hopefully he finds a groove.

Me too. His discipline doesn't seem to slump, regardless. That's an advantage of his approach and I think it's one the FO doubtless appreciates. 9 walks in like 65 PA is nothing to sneeze at.

He's had a pretty horrible spring. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he started in AAA for a bit

EDIT--although valid point about his plate discipline by @Fishy1

I suppose I wouldn't either, but I think they need him as a backup outfielder right now. If Yoshida is primarily at DH, it's some combination of O'Neill-Duran-Rafaela, right?

The issue is I don't think there's any particularly reliable indication that Criswell will be a good 3-inning reliever. His greatest skill is probably that he can potentially pitch 6 mid innings in one day because he has a larger array of pitches.

I just posted this on Criswell a few minutes ago...

https://www.overthemonster.com/2024/3/21/24105415/red-sox-season-preview-things-were-excited-for-and-terrified-of-in-2024-cooper-criswell-as-an-entity

It includes his ZiPS protection:

I don't think having Criswell as a multi-inning option would be any more useful than having like a Hagenman, Politi or German, & it would actively limit their ability to have him available if they need a spot starter or a guy to step into the rotation.

They really should just add another starter, though. I hear there is someone available...& the Red Sox are still approximately $24m under the tax threshold.
^^^ Chase Anderson clearly who I was referring to in this post.

That was same fancy timing. Showing the Mic'd up video of Rafaela and as it concludes with his steal from earlier in the game, he's stealing another bag in real time. Almost perfectly in sync.

Casas with a lunging catch of a line drive and a touch of 1st bag with the glove while on all fours for a wicked pissah double play

Kutter starts the last Florida contest of the spring, line-up is Duran RF, O'Neil DH, Devers 3b, Story SS, Casas 1b, Rafaela CF, Yoshida LF, Reyes 2b, Wong C

Nice first for Cutter, base hit followed by a great play on a line drive to Casas for the UDP. K's Riley to end the inning.

Duran ground out, BB for O'Neil, Devers solid single off lefty Fried, first and second. Story grinding AB, soft single to to right loads the bases. Casas up.

Kutter with one of the worst breaking balls I've seen from him. Gets out of the inning without too much damage, though.

And Casas with an outstanding stop at first. God he looks so much better over there.

Casas making some plays is a fantastic sign!

Felt like ATL got gifted a couple balls that should have been Ks that inning, but the HR was legit crushed.

Not pretty from Kutter, but Casas is looking absolutely fantastic at first this year. A couple of great plays today highlighting his improvement.

Kutter works out of trouble nicely in the third, offense still looking to break through after the early squander, O'Neil at second and Raffi at first for Story. Walks. Bases juiced again for Casas.

Heh, Casas with a little grounder that gets through for a 2-run single.
Looks like a line drive in the scorebook!
