When was the last time Doc Rivers overperformed, or performed to expectation? 2012?

What was with all the Giannis is playing chatter? I guess if the Bucks had drawn the nine o’clock game he would have been out there. Too bad so sad.

Indy has a real, real good chance to make the ECF with the level of attrition happening on the eastern seaboard right now.

What do you doing you’re Milwaukee? Forget the coaching situation, which is a mess. Who are you trading to improve the team? Giannis and Dame are not enough, and aren’t reliable. No cap, not a ton to offer to grab a star. Tough spot.

You can really imagine a future for PP as "TJ with an outside shot." They're nearly identical players at this point, except one gets more opportunity and is a way, way worse shooter.
TJ finishes close to the rim remarkably well for someone of his physical attributes. If PP could do that, he'd be starting somewhere.

He's gonna start next season suspended.
I think that's at least 10 games. Unless they were screaming the n-word or threatening his family (which would've caused more of a reaction from the other players), there is no way you can throw a ball at a fan, never mind do it twice.

Yep. Pretty telling that none of the other players seemed to know what was going on. If there was stuff being said that crossed the line, one would expect that there would have been a collective reaction.

I doubt he's in the league next year, but yeah I assume there will be a lengthy suspension waiting if he somehow finds a team desperate enough

Why would you doubt he is in the league? I get that he is getting old (35) but he just played 73 games and over 1400 minutes this year and played a pretty damn good playoff series with high minutes (34 per game)

He's going to be 36 and while he played a bunch for a team that gutted it's depth, he's now a FA and.... he was a significantly negative player by basically all metrics. He's cliffed pretty hard. Maybe a team wants a very old guard whose only remaining skill is playing dirty and running his mouth, but most teams are gonna want younger guys who at least have a chance of getting better. Though, maybe Doc wants him back, he's the only guy I can see wanting him. He was a guy who rode on one skill and that skill has gone away.

There are tons of "negative players by basically all metrics" signed every year though. I think if he wants to play, there is no doubt he signs on somewhere, and there are plenty of coaches besides Doc that would sign up for the adventure

Yeah, I could be wrong, we'll see, I just think the way this year has gone and all the negatives he brings, not sure that's the profile teams are going to want for a guy who shouldn't be in an NBA team's top 8 at this point.

Beverly looked completely cooked early last year with the Lakers, but he's bounced back. He really shouldn't be starting for a team that has real expectations, but it doesn't seem like he's quite done yet.

In fairness, we have no idea if they're enough. Still-Effective Middleton, Portis, Beasley, Lopez et al could definitely be a sufficient supporting cast to make a big run, if Giannis and Dame were both 100%. They could quite reasonably run it back with only minor tweaks.

But if they start next season healthy and Doc runs out to a 16-25 first half anyway, there are going to be some awkward questions.

Giannis reached out to one of the fans at the end and looks like apologized and shook his hand. That tells you everything you need to know.

He hit a woman in the face with the ball. And, then doubled down by trying again. He is done. And should be. Boo.

They're thoroughly in the zone of "run it back and hope for the best possible health outcome for every key player." There's nothing else to do, and they still have better title odds next year than 20+ teams. If you can't really improve in the NBA, then you're in the business of selling hope— both to yourself and to the fans— and Middleton's big games in this series will help give them that.

They will probably add a young, high-energy role player, who— coupled with the young players they have— will lead to a summer of gushing stories about their commitment to youth and energy. Until we get to next season and Doc resolutely doesn't play any of them.

Besides the video circulating on Xitter, this is now a non-story in terms of coverage. If the league allows it, they will get zero pushback on giving Beverley a pass. There will always be an assumption that the fan deserves anything that happens to them.

Some great replies

Im guessing the Fan wasn’t subscribed to the pod either

throwing a basketball at someone & missing from that distance as a professional basketball player is kind of a shame ngl

For a guy who loses as much as you do, you sure suck at it.

Enjoy Galveston

Seems clear from the video the announcers didn't see PatBev chuck the ball (twice). They only saw the fans yelling at the Bucks bench. I don't think the announcers were covering for him here.
They have monitors and producers in their ear. If the fan threw a bottle at his skull, it would not be missed.

Jesus Christ what a fucking asshole. It's ashame that he & Draymond basically will have media careers when they retire. Why does anyone think that's a good idea? It can't just be eyeballs. I see these fucks in the booth on TV & I immediately mute or change the channel.

That was live video, not a replay. I doubt they were watching the monitors. Do you have video of what they said afterwards, if the broadcast showed a replay, etc.? This was real time.

No, I don't have the broadcast. I do see it is not mentioned on espn.com's or Bleacher Report's (owned by WBD) headlines, game report or covered at all by Inside the NBA.

I also see the general tenor by the media when there is any kind of interaction by players/suits and the fans - fans are unwashed animals who are begrudgingly tolerated.

I think you are trying too hard to fit your narrative. Chuck calls for a suspension here. This took me approximately 3 seconds to find.

The culture in the NBA is so upside down, a veteran player tries to assault a fan and the announcers call for the fans to be better.

View: https://youtu.be/HPtNm6N903g?si=OsXahtFtzdVHrtAp
What does this have to do with the culture of the NBA? Announcers employed by a cable network calling the game missed the horrifying actions that led up to the jawing. The first announcer says might have to get security involved, second announcer says now is not the time to trash talk the Bucks. Obviously they had no idea what happened that led up to it. Bucks players pull Beverley away from the situation, clearly frustrated with his behavior. Giannis, one of the biggest stars in the league, apologizes to the fan and shakes his hand. This is on one asshole who freaked out. He’ll be suspended. What does any of this tell us about the culture of the NBA?

Exactly. I'm not sure why @Vinho Tinto is on a crusade to show the media hates the fans.
