Draft is tonight of course, and the online fanbase seems very aggressively split into 2 camps on pick #10. Team LT vs Team Weapon and/or The Bowers Boys in a supposed "GFIN season".

I'm firmly in the Team OL camp. Joe D had a good overall winter as a GM and I give him a lot of credit for that. But at the end of the day Tyron Smith is a 33yo who hasn't finished a season with more then 13 games since 2015, and bringing in Rodgers' even more super injury prone buddy David Bakhtiari post-draft isn't a good backup or long term solution there. Nobody should be glossing over the fact we also have Nathaniel Hacket as an OC either. Who is realistically going to struggle enough just finding a KISS formula that even consistently works. You don't hand a guy like that Brock Bowers and rationally expect the type of creativity useage to warrant the pick.

Don't overthink or overestimate your position of strength tonight. Don't view this like fantasy football pick. Don't be overly cute. With no 2nd rounder just take the franchise OT we should of walked out of last year's draft with and didn't after getting fleeced into the pick swap.

So refreshing to see that play out. Joe D gets an A grade from me for the Fash pick and free trade down value pickup. No complaints coming from me latter regardless how it plays out.

Also refreshing to see the Pats follow up the same free agency I'd of expected out Bill B with the same second round pick at WR i'd of expected out of Bill B. Without having to worry about Bill being around once the actual games start up.

Gonna be fun watching them bring in Becton to protect and support Maye for his year 1 development.

Was hoping to see Franklin drop a little further so we could maybe consider double dipping at WR, but alas.

I'm good with the Malachi Corley pick yesterday. 3 rounds in still no complaints with what Joe D is doing.

Hoping one of these 3 4ths puts a new QB flyer in the building for a year. Pratt, Rattler, or maybe even Travis I guess.

Kind of a roller coaster 4th there. Didn't really like the initial 15 slot trade down. Loved the Detroit trade. Didn't like the trade down for those 2 very back end SF 5ths at all (still don't).

Rounded out by a pretty solid roster fit of a big bruiser RB in Allen who can't even buy beer yet.

Left feeling questionable on these last 3 as well.Travis over Pratt? Another RB? Stiggers?

Not crying murder over anything, but I'd have at least preferred one of those non QB names to be a Johnny Wilson flyer or Rice's kid.

Why Braelon Allen and Isaih Davis? Basically same player skill set wise.

As as general buy in to the "don't pay RB" philosophy I view it more as a just getting the replacement possibility ball rolling early there. And I say that as an absolutely huge fan of Breece's. In reality it's going to be his show and offense next year...not an old man Aaron Rodgers'.

It seems pretty clear at this point that they weren't impressed with the in-house look they got on izzy. We could spend a little more picking up an one of the older 26yo+ FO out there, but in the event Breece goes does anybody really want to see them running out Zek every week as a run heavy gameplan starter? I'd rather at least be trying to catch lightning in a bottle then that.

A little competition between the 2 there and having a potentially stacked RB room with this OC isn't a bad thing imo.

Could Davis be used for the new kickoffs?
I thought they are both pure north south bangers but didn't spend a lot of time watching either. Braelon is likely a huge overdraft because he has been highly touted for 3+ yrs. His tape sucks. I'd be saying that regardless of where he went. I'm actually a lot more interested in Davis who played to his size.

Curious as to why you think Allen sucks. His 2023 body of work admittedly wasn’t great but they were running a new offense and he was injured. His 2022 tape shows a ton of potential. Hes only 20 years old and hes built like Derrick Henry. Calling a 4th rounder a huge overdraft after being highly touted seems a little strange.

Overdraft probably isn't the right term given it was the 4th rd. I just think Allen was bad in 23 and had a bad combine. He is Derek Henry's size but doesn't have close to his speed and his physicality is closer to a 210lb back. Doesn't break a lot of tackles despite his size. He has been a name people have been following for years though since he joined WIS after Jonathan Taylor left and was supposed to be the next JT, which he is not. He is young as you mention so perhaps he figures something out, I'm more bullish on Davis who put up much stronger numbers in 23 albeit against inferior competition.

You have likely watched a lot more than me but I’m having a hard time finding anything to support this. I suppose we’ll see if/when he hits the field.

Busy action for us on the UDFA front. With DL Leonard Taylor certainly being one of the most interesting ones as a former five-star recruit who some would argue was the best available talent of the lot.

Luckily Caitlyn still dominating the conversation pretty much everywhere else will help allow this to be more of a non-story.

The Coney Island of my mind
Saleh attempted to downplay Rodgers' no-show, saying it wasn't a surprise because the 40-year-old quarterback had given advance warning. Saleh insisted he wasn't disappointed.

"No," he said. "Selfishly, I want our guys here all the time, but when you get to these mandatory things, you make the best decision for yourself. Obviously, selfishly, want all of them here all the time, but he made a decision and that's where he went."
Saleh's going to be on the IR for a hyperextended tongue by October if he's already licking Aaron's boots. Also, cue Inigo re: Saleh's understanding of what "mandatory" means.

lol..i love this quote: "when you get to these mandatory things, you make the best decision for yourself." Translates to: "'mandatory' is in the eyes of the beholder" -- what's good for the team isn't necessarily good for our diva, nutjob QB.

We're overplaying the "mandatory" thing a bit though right? I mean, they are going to sanction him the same way everyone would get punished for not being at the mandatory camp.

Brandon Aiyuk isn't at Niners camp even though it's mandatory, it's for a contract holdout, but really what's the difference as long as they both get fined the same way?

Still makes Rodgers a selfish prick, but I'm not sure Saleh is doing anything different than any coach or org would.

of course that's correct.

I just think the phrasing is so obviously contradictory that it indicates how the Jets are doing backflips to accommodate their main man. It's also a nice counterpoint to Rodgers speech to his teammates how focus needs to be 100% if they're going to win. Oh, except when he has a very "special event" to attend -- what is it, btw -- an ayahuasco ceremony? a RFK rally? both?

Yeah, I don't think it's a big deal especially since Rodgers has been at OTAs. Saleh didn't help matters though. I also find it curious Rodgers didn't tell the organization what event he was missing camp for.

Saleh isn't the one who wouldn't say what Rodgers was doing--it sounded like the team knew but wasn't sharing it. Saleh might not have "helped," but it's not clear (to me, anyways) what he could have done to make an awkward situation disappear.

I read earlier that the team was not told what the event was but not seeing that now so maybe that was incorrect. Or maybe I misread it.

Saleh did seem to know but was not willing to share what it is. Nor should he.

For a 40+ year old QB who has had some horrifically slow starts before last years incomplete, missing camp seems unwise. When did practice become unimportant? Can't wait to see him throwing fits on the sidelines after his WR didn't do what he thought he would. Jets are going to Jet. This is going to end poorly.

Aaron Rodgers is skipping all of Jets mandatory minicamp this week because he prefers to be somewhere else away from football. That's his choice.
I think there must be some different definitions of "mandatory" out there than the one I grew up with.
