This is very typical of the Warriors this season. Way too much super-sloppy, deeply stupid basketball.

0 points for Klay. I am really curious what his market looks like. If he's back with the Warriors, it'll be at a massive discount.

The Wiggins contract is a real problem. They'll have to see if Toronto is willing to do something stupid, but they may be stuck with him. Maybe they'll get lucky and he'll be chosen in the expansion draft in a year or two.

I wonder if Lacob has the stones to trade Draymond to Detroit and let Klay walk. I think it'd be the smart play.

Not sure who they could play for Klay tonite, but it seems he definitely should be sitting. He looks completely checked out.

This is a pretty nice break for OKC. They certainly deserved it by getting the 1 seed, but just last week there was a great chance that the 8 seed was going to be one of Durant/Lebron/Curry. They've got a playoff experience deficit no matter who they face, but it barely matters now since they're getting either Sac or NO, neither of whom have much experience worth writing home about. Fingers crossed that things work out the same way for Boston.

How early could the Kings have done the 'night, night' gesture to Curry tonite?

Why did Chris Paul play so few minutes? Hurt (again), or just ineffective?

Warriors eliminated. LeBron has to try to get through Denver in the first round. A good first night of post season basketball.

Too bad both Philly and Miami can’t be eliminated in day two. I’d like to see Miami win, and Philly lose to either Chicago or Atlanta.

Kerr went with Moody ahead of him in the 3Q after he showed well in 1H then removed Paul late when game was out of hand. He wasn’t very effective though.

Still annoyed that Wiggins was good enough just two years ago to lock down Tatum in the Finals.
Yeah, it's super annoying that in the past two playoff series, BOS has fun into multiple players - Wiggins, Martin, and Vincent - who basically morphed into all-NBA players for one series.

Hopefully everything gets turned around this year!

Pretty uninspired effort from the Warriors for a do-or-die playoff game. It's one thing to lose because guys like Keegan Murray and Keon Ellis got hot and made a bunch of shots, but giving up so many offensive rebounds and nobody except Kuminga really playing with intensity on the offensive end was surprising to see. They played like a team that knew they didn't really have a shot if they made the playoffs and were happy to head home early.

Keegan Murray really bothered Steph as the primary defender, which is not something at all I would have expected to see.

yep, although Tatum's injured wrist is criminally under-mentioned (like the ankle twist last year) by the media since it doesn't fit into the "Tatum can't win on the biggest stage" meme o_O

So who else is on the Mount Rushmore of playoff futility with CP3 and Chuck?
and Stockton

edit.. just looked it up.. Vince Carter with 22 seasons.
Too early to include Damian L?

And since this is Sac.... Chris Webber
There are a lot of players that have played 17+ seasons without a ring. 2 other names: Nash and Reggie Miller.
Embiid and Harden
I’d start with MVPs who never won. So Nash, Barkley, Harden, Malone. Embiid conceivably but 8 years of career isn’t that many. Westbrook maybe instead, but he’s sort of a novelty MVP rather than a top 40 all-time great.

Had to assume it's pretty bad if he couldn't even give it a go in the last few minutes.

I'd guess Grade 2 and 4 weeks minimum which means see ya next year for the Pels.

At least those guys have played in a WC Finals or NBA Finals.
Embiid is front and center on the Mount Rushmore

Joel has been getting NBA checks for 10 years. He missed his first 2 seasons because of his HEALTH.
Injuries have been his kryptonite. Every spring he's been either hobbled or out of shape due to an injury.

30 now and doubt it gets any better. I'm not sure how Philly builds a Championship team around the guy.

The best player in NBA history to never win a title is Elgin Baylor, who went 0-7 in the NBA Finals, with six of those losses coming against the Russell/Celtics. Kind of hard to blame him for coming up small though--in 1962 the Lakers lost in seven to the Celtics despite Elgin averaging 40 and 18 for the series, including scoring a Finals record 61 in Game 5.

He retired early on during the 72-73 season...and the Lakers would then go on to win the title that year.

It's a good question. The Athletic did their top 75 all-time NBA player list a few years ago (and ranked them, unlike the official NBA list), and Elgin was the 23rd best player of all time, 3rd best not to win a title (behind Barkley at 22 and Malone at 16).

Embiid has been one of the very best players in the league for 4 years now, but he's now 30 and has just a single 1st team all-NBA selection. If he doesn't win a title as the lead option, I don't think history will treat his legacy very kindly.

Elgin was a lot better than those guys, and gets penalized for being a pre-merger player.

Yeah, as mentioned before, Philly’s window was likely Kawhi’s ball bouncing on the rim. Bounced the wrong way, window closed, nothing else opened.

Per Ty Lue, Kawhi isn't even playing 5 v 5 in practice and all of his answers the last 2 weeks have been nearly identical to when he tore his acl in the playoffs a year ago and they lied about.

Kawhi continues to have the best agent in sports, getting paid to not play when it matters most.

You must be stoked to have all your yearlong cynicism get validated (maybe).

And I mean, if we can't root for that as sports fans, for having our worst-case-scenario predictions turn out right, then there truly is no joy to be had in the pursuit.

ElUno has the winning combination of persistent cynicism that is somehow always right.

Not an easy needle to thread: many Celtics fans have tried and failed at this!

Having Donald Sterling get replaced with the richest owner in pro sports ought to deserve some optimism. As would a top-5 player recruiting a top-10 player to join him at the team.

But if Bill Simmons cared as much about my favorite team as he pretends he does, I might be a bit more suspicious too, I'll grant.

This is where the clippers lose/insult the 50 actual fans they have.

-----

Everyone knows player A is injured (other nba teams and players)

Clippers are intentionally vague/playing coy as some weird sort of gamesmanship to keep the opponent off balance (as if this ever works) about said player

Player is actually really injured and misses a ton of time.

In this scenario, the only thing you're doing is smacking the few fans you have in the face. The rest of the league isn't "fooled". As an organization, you're choosing to treat your fanbase like idiots so they'll buy game 1 and game 2 tickets.

----

So yeah, great Balmer bought everyone a hotdog and drink the last game. Big fn deal. Sign players who play.

Once we get down to 16 teams, maybe we can do a separate thread for each series? The main reason I ask is if I’m behind watching, then I can safely talk about the early games without getting spoiled on the later ones.

I had no idea JJ Redick was even among the broadcasting crew. They should try to give him more lines.
