What about Syracuse in 87?Last two times that the Providence Friars made the Sweet Sixteen, the team that ended their run won it all.
That's all I got..

I mean, he was a huge factor in beating Duke in the most important game of the rivalry(TM), and this egg-laying came in the TITLE game. No shame or complications with that IMO. But I'm not a Heels fan...Caleb Love is going to have a complicated legacy at UNC. Yikes. He sucked out loud tonight.
He was also huge in the game before that.. He had a huge tourney and year... just missed everything tonite.I mean, he was a huge factor in beating Duke in the most important game of the rivalry(TM), and this egg-laying came in the TITLE game. Catching your own missed shot - even if it’s an air ball - is not a travel. You can’t proceed to dribble or anything but you can catch your own miss as long as the refs deem it an actual shot. This is an understatement.. need at least one or two subs.. no idea how they made it this far basically playing a starting 5.
Also.. that non call on the clear traveling (when the Kansas player shot and caught his own shot with it not hitting anything) and the non goaltending maybe made a bit of a difference? 4 points that Kansas should never have had.
Haha, nice. What happened in the NBA the last time Kansas won it all?
This is true? Even without it hitting the ground? I didn't know that.Catching your own missed shot - even if it’s an air ball - is not a travel. You can’t proceed to dribble or anything but you can catch your own miss as long as the refs deem it an actual shot.
Yep. One of the most misunderstood situations in basketball. This is true? Even without it hitting the ground? I didn't know that.
When does the “Beat Coach K” banner go up? This is UNC and he was a big reason for getting them to this point but also a big reason for not completing the job. And not finishing the job takes away a lot of the gloating of ending K. People always remember the poor shooting title games.I mean, he was a huge factor in beating Duke in the most important game of the rivalry(TM), and this egg-laying came in the TITLE game. Manek too. UNC would have been nothing without him - but got the extra Covid year and went from OK to UNCTransfer portal was quietly a huge factor. Remy Martin was a three year player at a major program where he was pretty clearly the man, but becomes the missing piece and wins a championship. It really is a new world and that Is what you need.
OK.. so only two points that Kansas was gifted.Yep. One of the most misunderstood situations in basketball.
If judged as an attempt, yep. This is true? Even without it hitting the ground? I didn't know that.
Been a lot of beating coach K in the final four games have there? When does the “Beat Coach K” banner go up? Be careful, because I would hope for what you are alluding to but also a former Kansas star helped lead his team to the NBA championship in 2008. Joel Embiid says hi this year. What happened in the NBA the last time Kansas won it all?
Nice rivalry win, for sure, but I’m guessing most UNC fans would rather have a title that didn’t involve ending Coach K vs. a Final 4 win ending K that ended up in a painful title loss. Just so hard to win this thing.Been a lot of beating coach K in the final four games have there?
edit: or his final game really? or in March Madness?
Yup. UNC doesn't even have a top 30 recruit next year AFAICT and not a top-10 overall class.Transfer portal was quietly a huge factor. Remy Martin was a three year player at a major program where he was pretty clearly the man, but becomes the missing piece and wins a championship. It really is a new world and that Is what you need.
As a UNC fan.. I never expected them to get this far.. part that sucks the most for me is that they were up 15 at half. That's when I expected to win.. coach K getting beat the only time they ever played in March? And it was his last game as a head coach? The tradeoff the other way is worth it (in a way)... not like Carolina hasn't won in a while. Sucks the way they lost, but the run was really unexpected.Nice rivalry win, for sure, but I’m guessing most UNC fans would rather have a title that didn’t involve ending Coach K vs. a Final 4 win ending K that ended up in a painful title loss. This UNC team has nothing to be ashamed of but it would have been sooooo perfect to end K and then win it all. Like, that’s basically as good as it gets for a Tar Heels fan. So tough loss in that regards, especially given how things were looking at the end of the first half.As a UNC fan.. Edit: I'm also almost 50.. it hurt more watching them lose to Villanova... I think they should have won both TBH.
Not this Carolina fan. Beating K in his last home game and his last game ever is all I could have asked for from this team.Nice rivalry win, for sure, but I’m guessing most UNC fans would rather have a title that didn’t involve ending Coach K vs. a Final 4 win ending K that ended up in a painful title loss. The way he talked and looked at the end of the game.. it almost made me feel sorry for him. This UNC team has nothing to be ashamed of but it would have been sooooo perfect to end K and then win it all. Like, that’s basically as good as it gets for a Tar Heels fan. So tough loss in that regards, especially given how things were looking at the end of the first half.
But ending K’s career is at least a nice consolation prize.
On any given night any college team can lose to any other... the tourney is a bit unfair in a way.. but when you get to the final four usually you have four teams that are playing their best ball at the right time...no?The being up 15 and losing the lead so quickly and is the only bad part.
I'll take the 21st FF, which was completely unexpected in December/January. It stings and it hurts but it's better than losing Saturday
It's Kansas winning (cousins in some ways), not Nova, not Uconn, not NC State, not Duke.
I also kinda think (I may be crazy) that Gonzaga and Arizona would have beaten both teams by 20 tonight.
They greatly outperformed expectations but losing a title, especially after blowing a 15 point lead is tough. I’m a BC fan though so I won’t ever know this kind of college hoops pain. Not this Carolina fan. Beating K in his last home game and his last game ever is all I could have asked for from this team.
I'm definitely out of touch with the college game.. but in other years I definitely have seen players I expected to see in the NBA out of Carolina.. who out of this team would you expect to go?In a somewhat unrelated thought, Braun had a quiet double double as a wing, and played all 40 minutes and I hope the Celtics can draft him at 60.
Bacot in the middle of the 2nd.I'm definitely out of touch with the college game.. but in other years I definitely have seen players I expected to see in the NBA out of Carolina.. who out of this team would you expect to go?
Yeah.. that's what I was thinking too.. every other time UNC has won or lost I've seen at least two or three players I expected to go.Bacot in the middle of the 2nd.
I doubt Love or Manek get drafted, but maybe one of the past couple of picks.
I doubt Black gets close to being drafted but at least he has potential as defensive specialist.
It just sucks that Dayron went 1st round and is languishing in the G league and Kessler is gonna probably go 1st round too this year.
This felt like a year where nobody was really that good. Duke has at least 3 guys who’ll move on to the NBA but even they never really impressed me much this year and UNC obviously handled them just fine. Was kind of a weak year in college hoops in terms of high end talent.Yeah.. that's what I was thinking too.. every other time UNC has won or lost I've seen at least two or three players I expected to go.
But I'm also spoiled from the years when UNC had players like Carter or Jamison or Stackhouse or Wallace etc.. Even May or Lawson.. these guys just seemed to be playing way over their heads.
I think that's what is most disappointing in a way.. there were not any dominant players... even the two centers on Kansas seem highly flawed. This felt like a year where nobody was really that good. Premier talent now skips college or goes after a year. I still remember the days when stars like Vince Carter and Jamison stayed for 3 years. This felt like a year where nobody was really that good. They lost soooo many times in the Semis when they had the nuts. It was nice to win a Semi when they actually had less talent, especially when the opponent is Duke now? Can't take that away. This UNC team has nothing to be ashamed of but it would have been sooooo perfect to end K and then win it all. Like, that’s basically as good as it gets for a Tar Heels fan. I remember when Elton Brand, Corey Magette, and William Avery in 1999 were the first Duke players to leave Duke without playing the full 4 years.Premier talent now skips college or goes after a year. I still remember the days when stars like Vince Carter and Jamison stayed for 3 years.
NCAA rules say catching your own air ball is legal. NBA it's a travelThis is an understatement.. need at least one or two subs.. no idea how they made it this far basically playing a starting 5.

It was a huge factor with many Sweet 16 teams. Providence, Iowa St, etc etc…….and this coming year may simply become ludicrous! It’s going to look like the NBA with the entire league on one-year deals. Sit tight.Transfer portal was quietly a huge factor. Remy Martin was a three year player at a major program where he was pretty clearly the man, but becomes the missing piece and wins a championship. It really is a new world and that Is what you need.
I think the mindset of only championships matter has hurt college sports. As you point out, North Carolina did something incredible twice in a season against their biggest rival. That’s awesome and something that will never be duplicated. Not this Carolina fan. Beating K in his last home game and his last game ever is all I could have asked for from this team.
The players leave so quickly that you rarely see the nucleus of a team come back and lead a determined campaign to exact revenge against the team(s) that knocked them off.I think the mindset of only championships matter has hurt college sports. As you point out, North Carolina did something incredible twice in a season against their biggest rival. That’s awesome and something that will never be duplicated.
Usually it's a combination of someone playing their best ball and someone losing that probably shouldn't have; making it a lot more possible for the hot team to keep winning. On any given night any college team can lose to any other... the tourney is a bit unfair in a way.. but when you get to the final four usually you have four teams that are playing their best ball at the right time...no?
