Do they get any credit for the nice comeback to get it to overtime?I thought they were dead at 21-7.
It’s pretty evident that BC started the wrong QB. Coaches better than Hafley have made that mistake (Chandler Morris over Max Duggan just last year) and Castellanos was good at digging them out of the hole he found himself in.

Yup. TOB started not only Paul Peterson (defensible) over Matt Ryan, but also Quinton Porter.

Paul Peterson should have been starting over Quinton Porter. It was the opposite. Toby with his love of tall handsome quarterbacks (see Glennon over Russell Wilson at State) played handsome Porter over Peterson when it was obvious that PP was the better player.

Bad sentence structure by me. I mean Porter shouldn't have started over Ryan. No way no how.

Toby liked them tall and handsome.
It was pretty hilarious at the time (and even more so looking back given Ryan won a NFL MVP and Wilson has had a very good NFL career) that he called Glennon the best QB he ever coached when Ryan was already an above average NFL QB.

His only QB judgement was was the guy tall and did he have a big arm. Nothing else mattered and then of course, his offense would be the king of a 2 yard swing pass on 3rd and 9.

To add for the current year: Hafley has no idea how to coach an offense and basically every QB has seemed to not progress at all (Jurkovec didnt and if Morehead loses the job to Castellanos, I'd say thats 0 for 2). I dont know that Morehead is good, but he seemed competent enough as a RSF. If Castellanos cant run particularly effectively against NIU, its not going to work against actual ACC teams with real athletes. That will look something like a really shit version of the Addazzio Tyler Murphy offense.

Just saw the final score (stuck in BNA as our connection to BOS is delayed by weather in BOS) looks like BC didn‘t win very convincingly
BC was ahead 31-28 and there was a weather delay, 1:58 left. HC ran 3 plays and went 50+ yards to the BC 25 or 30, then fumbled.

The last two minutes were like a home game for HC. Nearly all the BC folks left. The ratio of purple to maroon fans at the end had to be 10-1.

Game officials and ESPN seemed to have no clue the game needed to move along a little faster than it did due to the possibility of a weather delay.

I was at the game and it was pathetic from a BC standpoint. So much apathy while Holy Cross fans were numerous and LOUD. They completely took over the stadium.

As for the game itself, BC is so small and unathletic. They looked like a Patriot League team too. FSU is going to score so effortlessly against this team.

Yep, I was at game as well and sat in Holy Cross section with my son and his friends all of whom are HC students. The game meant so much more to HC and it showed throughout. BC, and, in particular the defense, was atrocious. And, the team played uninspired. Both bad reflections on Hafley.

I saw the team’s entrance. There was no emotion. Only Castellanos looked fired up. It was a far cry from when I was there (2004 grad). The TOB teams always had those WTF games but they played with fire and physicality. The guys are so soft and passive. And the fan base, never a strong point, is now comatose.

It’s amazing how far they have fallen. My college friends and I (1994 grads) would always complain about the team…little did we know…we would kill for those Coughlin teams now

What the athletics programs need is another Father Monan. Swapping out coaches ever few years isn't going to cut it.
I think the days of a Jesuit President/Chancellor wielding that much influence, both within the institution and outside of it, are gone. Not to mention the fact that Father Monan was even more politically adept than his contemporaries.

Allegedly he helped keep the Patriots from moving to Hartford, too, on top of his many many awesome improvements to BC.

I'd be interested to hear that story. Kraft did a great job using the threat of moving to Hartford as leverage, but I personally dont think he was ever going to go.

I doubt you'll see a Jesuit take over for Leahy, they are few and far between these days. I just looked up more than a dozen Jesuit universities, some big, some small; none have a priest running the show.

I think athletically, this will help them.

Win it for Welles!

Edit: Pre-snap penalty on first play

Cmon Hafley get your team to focus

Edit 2: FSU forgot to play D on play 2

18 penalties. EIGHTEEN. FSU looking ahead to Clemson tilt next week. FSU did everything to give the game to the Eagles and BC says, no thank you.

That safety transfer #35 is just horrendous. Hafley is in his 4th year, secondaries are his specialty, and that’s what we have out there?

A well-coached team takes out FSU today. This team will never make the final game-winning plays against elite teams. So many close calls.

What happened to Washington, the kid from Harvard? #35, from Dartmouth, doesn't exactly fit the profile of a Power 5 defensive back.

No idea but going from the likes of Justin Simmons, John Johnson, etc. to Dartmouth grad transfers is just ridiculous. Like, good for this kid for making the most of an opportunity. I don’t blame him one bit. I blame our head coach for letting the situation get so dire.

Maybe they’re trying to improve their squash program? They got embarrassed by BU last year. They were ranked 66, BU 39. (Dartmouth 10)

Down 42-14 at half. Forced 0 punts. Scored their last TD after getting the ball with ~35 seconds. Pathetic.
Stopped Louisville on their first drive, except they face-masked, just like they did on their last drive against FSU. Became the first of 8 straight td drives. Not sure if the fake kneel down trumped the 5 or 6 long bomb completions in terms of embarrassment.

Hafley = Steve Donahue. Nice hire on paper. Terrible execution. Teams are soft, unathletic, and prone to mistakes.

But Notre Dame lost a big game and Lou Holtz was at the center of some alleged controversy. Eagle fans on Twitter got to relive the glory days of 1993 and put 2023 out of their minds, briefly.

Are you sayingBC fans can also relive the glory days of March 1994 next March? Pretty please?
