Coach of the Year performance by Pop so far. These Spurs flat out compete. Not sure winning games this year is in the best interest of the franchise’s long-term health but have to respect what they’re doing.

Popovich is 73. I don’t think he’s worrying about how a lottery pick might help them in the future.
He’s not. But this is still a franchise in need of high end talent. When Pop goes, and you lose that daily coaching advantage, there won’t be much to work off of for the new regime. But maybe they can add someone decent in FA.

I’ve been saying this for a couple years now but there is absolutely no reason why Romeo shouldn’t be a productive player in this league for a long time. He has all the physical skills, the defensive instincts, and only needs to work on ball skills which are the easiest to improve.
Agree, and it's kinda weird that SA hasn't given him more developmental minutes given their team situation.

Nobody has been lower on Bol than I have but it is disingenuous to call his recent play as “stat stuffing” while playing for a shorthanded team who isn’t that good even when at full strength. His length has been dominant at times on the defensive end as he’s held up to most challenges when opponents iso him on the perimeter. His foot speed is also greatly improved since college. If he stays healthy this kid has a shot as he’s already made a quick leap.
I have no view on Bol's play other than he shows some pretty impressive handling skills for a player his size. I was more alluding to the fact that his play isn't negatively impacting the team's results by helping them win.
Man what a terrible final 1.6 seconds for the Pelicans. Their rookie pg missing 2 free throws (either of which would have clinched it), then they let the one good shooter on the Lakers get a clean look at a 3, closing out like an idiot with his right hand up.
Pelicans somehow botched a 5 on 3 after AD and LW4 went down like bowling pins on the other end.
Pelicans don’t foul down 3 with 8 seconds to go. Because it would be impossible to miss 2 free throws late in the game up 3.
A great example of how little the early season NBA matters to very good teams, the Warriors responded to this urgent situation by giving their stars a rest game.
I had the Bucks-Wolves game on in the background, and I caught the color guy telling a story about how Flip Saunders regularly ate tomato soup with grilled cheese for breakfast. What a hero.

Westbrook has a great game, Lebron and AD play 35 minutes each, and the Lakers lose at home by double digits to a team that (current record aside) should be tanking. It was really something watching Markkanen match up with Lebron for most of the second half and thoroughly outplay him.

Indeed. His legs just aren't there - he's having trouble finishing in traffic, and he's last in the league in 3p% among those with 50+ attempts. For LA to even make the playoffs they need him to play like an MVP, and he's playing like a guy outside the top 10.

I know science has slowed the aging process for dedicated athletes but LeBron and Chris Paul, each who will be 38 during this season, seem to have lost quite a bit of their spring since the end of last season. It’s going to be sad and painful to watch two of the greatest ever at their respective positions to slug along over the next few years.

But hey at least they're playing and not brandon roy 2.0 like Kawhi. So much respect for them producing at age 38.
LeBron's issue is that so far this season his three pointer hasn't really fallen and over time he has relied more and more on that shot during games. He is not a 20% shoot from three, so he is due for some positive regression, but he also isn't Ray Allen either. He's still super strong, a great passer and has a tremendous IQ and immeasurable amounts of experience, so he's still a hell of a player. But if he has lost a step of that burst, he isn't nearly the kind of assassin the Lakers are going to need him to be.
