Stove is getting hotter by the minute!
We were promised chaos!

Teams are missing an opportunity to capitalize on fan interest right now, I dare say. An NBA-style run on the remaining free agents could have (further) hyped fans for the sport’s return, but I guess you can’t really plan something like that.

The thing that’s more surprising to me is the complete lack of so much as even rumors

One factor is that teams could not contact anyone on their 40 man until the deal was signed last night, so there is also a component of figuring out exactly what they have currently before finalizing any FA deals.

Strange to not see the Red Sox even on the list, it really seemed like they moved Renfroe to open up a spot for him. Maybe BOS is going after Conforto?
Seems really unlikely given that Conforto got a QO. They would still owe a comp pick, right?

They don’t need another OF who can’t hit lefties, either, IMO.

Soler seems very likely to me; fits the profile of guys they’ve targeted.

Boston, MA
I could live with Freeman to the Dodgers, just happy to see him stay in the NL. Correa to the Yanks would be a little scary, but at least he blocks a few of their top prospects, so if they are going to get performance from SS, they would be paying top dollar for it. Suzuki is the only FA I really want the Sox in on at this point, so rumors that don't involve them would be dismaying, if rumors were actually worth a damn when there are that many teams mentioned. I'm preparing mentally for him to just end up on a west coast team, but it sure would be nice to see him replace Renfroe...

As a Sox fan these developments aren’t very inspiring. If they’re not even in the conversation for Suzuki, then what’s the plan? I almost would have preferred to keep Renfroe. JBJ can’t possibly be the starter, can he?

Sure, he’s been a starter his entire career- was terrible last year but I think it’s very likely that they are expecting a return to form in a familiar environment he’s comfortable in. The organization loves JBJ, and I’d expect he plays a ton.

That inspires a whole lot of confidence. Coming off the year he had last year… it’s not like he took the league by storm that final season in Boston either. Combined with the (recent) injury history of the pitching staff (especially the free agents), I’m really starting to lower my expectations for this team

Maybe give Chaim another week or two? :)

He was kind of lousy after the crackdown on sticky stuff, but Robbie Ray didn’t look like a Cy contender when he got to Toronto either, so maybe they know what they’re doing
