Montgomery lives 10 miles away and I’ve had a chance to follow him for a while. Great kid, very good player with raw power. Colorado is a good place for him.

Well, Xander is one who certainly knows how fast a player can rise through the system! He went from the Portland Seadogs to Red Sox starting third baseman in a WS game in a single season.
Sure, but if Mayer plays at Hadlock in Summer 2024, his age 20 season, that *would be* rising fast. Right now, there's only one 20 year old and only nine 21 year olds in the Double-A Northeast, née the Eastern League.

And this kid isn’t seeing Portland until 2024 if everything goes well. If he’s in the big leagues by September 2024 and Xander hasn’t opted out, Mayer will be playing a different position.

Betts played 2B in Portland and he switched to the OF when it was obvious he would be blocked by Pedroia.

When an 18 year old gets drafted a lot can happen.

BTW he is one year older than my YOUNGEST daughter. I am officially old.

Ha, my mind went right to Mookie as well. I can only hope we are in the same position with Mayer in a few years!

I love the fact Mazzicato went 7 because I feared NY would take him with their first round pick. Can't imagine they would pass on an Italian baker's kid.
