Game thread alert, but just give me Steph, Dray, and the four kids next season. Wiggs and broken Klay are killing me. :-(

I didn't realize until tonight that Romeo Langford hadn't played a game yet for the Spurs and Josh Richardson had only played four. And neither played tonight as well.
It’s been discussed in another thread. The Spurs are loaded with their own young wings so their are no minutes for the new guys who don’t have any role there.

the Bulls also got a little screwed by injuries this year with Caruso, Lonz, Patrick Williams

CAVs look really beatable. Boston should have swept them this season (the Jabari game cost us)
Both teams have been hurt by injuries. The Cavs were able to withstand the Sexton loss bc it only opened up a larger role for Rubio who was arguably a better fit with his playmaking and defensive versatility……but then when he went down now the Cavs end up with Brandon Goodwin and Rondo as key rotation pieces. You can get away with one but both is a tough one to overcome.

Spencer Dinwiddie’s last 5 games in Dallas.
40-70 FG (57%)
22.2 Ppg
6.0 Ast
And for you meaningless +/- guys……+43

Bucks were just red hot from the outside. 13-19 from the field in the 4th quarter with just two makes in the paint (Giannis didn't attempt a shot in the 4th quarter and didn't have a made FG in the entire second half). The Suns were lucky it was even close in the end considering they were without Booker/Paul.

Precious Achiuwa reminds me of a very young Siakam…..and I loved me some very young Siakam. This kid may blow up next year.

Grizz completely lost focus in the 2nd half and Ja has puked all over this 4th quarter. Nice to see other good teams laying eggs.

...which is another way of saying the guy was a disappointment in Boston and well down the road to being out of the league in a year or so. If he was better than what SA had, he'd be playing. Pop or whoever else is making deals there is a miracle worker if they deal him off to someone else for anything of value.

Can anyone explain why SA got rid of Derrick White?

They wanted to free up cap space at the end of 22/23? No idea. You'd think they'd be playing Richardson for no other reason than to trade him in the offseason. He has to have some value, right?

the same reason they aren't playing the wings they got back, they're stacked there, and he makes a good amount of money, and his fit wasn't always great for what they were doing, he fit in BOS better. White and Murray were an either/or situation to them I think, they waited to see which one broke out offensively and traded the other.

The White trade makes perfect sense for SA. Trashing the non-draft assets they acquired in the trade makes less sense.

Malik Beasley's first 50 games (happens to be the end of January): .370/.341/.743, 12.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists. 142/417 from 3.
Since beginning of Feb: 14 games, 455/.481/.800, 12.9 points, 2.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists. 51/106 from 3.
Raised his 3 point % from .341 to .369.

Duncan Robinson's first 31 games: .371/.336/.769, 11.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 28.5 mpg. 88/262 from 3.
Last 31 games: .425/.397/.909, 11.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 25.2 mpg. 96/242 from 3.
Raises 3 pt % from .336 to .365

Tatum's first 43: .416/.311/.841, 25.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.8 blocks, 3.0 TO in 36.8 mpg. 109/350 from 3.
Tatum's last 19: .487/.378/.867, 29.4 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 0.9 steals, 0.5 blocks, 2.6 TO in 35.0 mpg. 68/180 from 3.
Raises 3 point % from .311 to .334.

The first 2 were mentioned in trade rumors to the C's and at the time, people were worried about Beasley and Robinson's shooting. There's so much variance involved from game to game, week to week, month to month.

There were talks comparing Tatum to Ingram as a passer earlier this year that said the 2 were similar. I disagreed but it's Interesting that they both seem to be leveling up in that category at the same time.
Ingram's first 31 games: .443/.329/.820, 22.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 2.7 TO in 34.6 mpg
Ingram's last 19 games: .496/.348/.810, 23.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 2.7 TO in 33.7 mpg.

I still think Ingram is ultimately going to be the 3rd star added to the Jays. Him and Tatum have a bromance rivalry going and both are from Duke. If Zion wants out of NO, there's no point in Ingram sticking around.

I have a hard time believing a player with Romeo’s size, physical skills and improved shooting is out of the league anytime soon barring a career ending injury or he mysteriously stops working. It’s just not happening.

With rosters at 15+2, yeah. The C's would be in on him if he were available for nothing/league minimum.

Romeo is currently 3-3 with good defense in 10 minutes tonight. So he might get a shot.
Vassell and Walker are both out tonight though. He likely wasn’t getting a shot without those absences. But, to his credit, he’s making the most of his opportunity tonight so good for him.

I feel like there is some sort of record in this Denver vs Golden State game for the biggest gap between the best player on the floor and the second best player. No Steph, Draymond or Klay for the Warriors. So it goes Jokic, than either Aaron Gordon or Jordan Poole.

Moses Moody and Poole combine for 62 points, but Denver survives thanks to 32-15-13 on 12/17 shooting from Jokic. Jokic is just on another level right now; he's such a fabulously gifted offensive player; he can literally be an entire offense by himself. We've seen a lot of guys who can score a ton and also pass at an elite-level, but I don't think of anyone that could do that while scoring on the block the way he does. He has a consistency and efficiency to his game that allows him to basically do whatever he wants on offense. He can post guys up and has such a soft touch around the rim, and if you double him you are totally fucked because he'll always make the right pass out of the double team.

Y'all buying or selling on Mavs? They seem to be the Western Conference version of the Celtics. 22-7, 2nd best defense, 3rd best net rating since 1/1. Slow start but they're on a roll.
Denver is the team I'd watch in that group, 9-1 in their last 10 and with Murray and Porter both supposedly coming back still.

Jokic is unreal. You can make a case for this season as one of the greatest statistically of all time.

(per 36)
28.1 points on .656 true shooting
15.0 rebounds
8.8 assists
+9.3 on court
+16.7 net on-off

By advanced stats (RAPTOR, RPM, etc.) he's basically lapping the field — incredible as Embiid and Giannis have also been.

I guess the moral of the story is to take your #41 picks seriously? Players drafted ahead of him include Mitch McGary, Jordan Adams, Cleanthony Early, Damien Inglis, and Jarnell Stokes; and the three guys picked after him are Nick Johnson, Edy Tavares, and Markel Brown.

Before Jokic, the latest-draft pick to win MVP was Steve Nash/Giannis at #15 overall.

You can still get plus money on Jokic MVP as Embiid is currently priced as a decent sized favorite.

Eh… seems like a waste of money to me, unless the stat nerds have gained significantly more influence over the vote than in years past? My guess is that mild East Coast / big market bias, together with the “spread it around” dictum (that jobbed MJ and LeBron out of multiple MVPs) is going to overwhelm Jokic’s advantage in advanced stats. And honestly, Embiid has been amazing enough that with the Sixers now closing strong, I have zero issue with him getting it.

Cheating a bit, but Moses Malone was drafted in the 3rd round in the ABA draft
Yeah, he had signed his letter of intent to attend college so no ABA team wanted to waste a higher pick on a guy who hadn’t appeared to have a chance to play with them. As (I think) you’re implying, this had nothing to do with Malone’s ability at the time. This was back when teams didn’t know if they’d even be in existence at the end of the season lol.
