Steph going nuclear in Q4 with Kevin Porter Jr bumping his gums o_O
Kerr was asked in the postgame presser what he thought of KPJ trashtalking Steph in the 4th Q: "I didn't notice it ... but I highly encourage it."

Steph's been battling, but this was his first real nuclear show in what seems like a month. Sight for sore eyes.

Scored 21 in the 4th, apparently breaking Kobe's all-time record for 20 pt. quarters.

I think they said in the broadcast it was his first 20pt 4th quarter in his career...which didn't sound right?

Looney's fully back looked good

It was his 38th career 20-point quarter — which, to clarify, passed Kobe as the most by any player *since 1996.* Before that, they didn’t keep track of play by play data. I think we can assume Wilt for starters racked up more than that while averaging 35-50 ppg in his prime.

I can actually believe it’s Steph’s first 4th quarter over 20, tho, since (1) at his peak the Ws were blowing most teams out and he was sitting a ton of 4th quarters; and (2) even when he has played in the 4th, his typical rotation pattern throughout his career (which has changed slightly this season) was to play the entire first and third quarters, and sit the first ~6 minutes of the second and fourth quarters. So I’d assume most if not all of his 20 point quarters were either the the first or the third.

As for Loon: yeah, he’s been a freaking rock for us. He’s pulling 12.9 boards per 36 on the season, which is further evidence that you don’t have to be over 6-9 or able to leap over a phone book to be a beast on the glass. Last night, with Dray still out with his bulging disk issue, Bjelica out with back spasms, and Wiseman still inching back in what has to be the longest meniscus recovery ever, Loon held it down with 6-6 Toscano-Anderson and 6-8 Kuminga the de facto backup centers.

Meanwhile, Wiggins the last two games has been like, “ah well, if BamBam is gonna make me an all-star starter, I might as well play like one.” Just a smooth, confident beast of efficiency on both ends of the floor.

Contextual factor. Looney plays his role well when healthy but is credit his inflated rebounds numbers this year to someone having to gather opponents missed shots rather than him being a better rebounder than in the past. He’s been out there much of the time with 4 guards or 3 guards and Otto Porter (which is similar to 4 guards).

Yeah, rebounding is one skill that tends not to improve or develop throughout a player’s career so much as just fluctuate based on role or gameplan (e.g. Loon playing more with four small guys, or Westbrook “improving” from 5-7 rpg to 10-11 by making Steven Adams box out for his uncontested defensive rebounds). By the same token, tho: some guys just seem to have a innate knack for grabbing boards (Westbrook or Looney, e.g.) while some guys do not (say, Jordan Crawford or Davion Mitchell).

Drummond had 23 rebounds last night. Playing on a minimum deal, showcasing his own self.
Drummond hasn't been in a good situation since he left Detroit. Cleveland was an awkward fit with a bunch of other bigs needing minutes, and the Lakers situation never made any sense. Stuck behind Embiid he isn't going to play a ton in Philly and they really aren't going to play together.

He can really rebound the basketball though, and had moments in Detroit when he was an underrated passer. He is averaging 9 rpg in only 18 mpg (good for 17 rebounds per 36 minutes).

Drummond’s passing skills are creative. Bounce passes from the high post. Sometimes behind the back. Touch passes. He played over 40 minutes last night, surprising because he’s so thick. Great pickup by Brand/Morey. 76ers are better with Drummond than Dwight Howard, although he was effective, too.

man, never graduate to being a backup Center in the modern NBA

the only thing worse is watching a GM pay up for one as they backslide

I wonder how much Al stuck in that brown bag on the front of IME's porch

Al should be coaching that team.

I mean wtf is he doing? It was a blatant violation of the rule. That’s on Ingram imo.
Yeah, IDK about ejection but he swats the shot, then squats down in the guys face and screams at him. That's an easy T evert time.

Yep. I started that clip thinking I'd be outraged by more referee overreaction and then...naw -- fully deserved that T.

Atlanta, GA
Terrible OT loss at home for the Mavs. OKC was without SGA and led most of the way. Dallas went on an 11-2 run late in the fourth to take the lead by 2. Kenrich Williams tied it to send it to OT

He needs to start turning the skill set into results, because he has a ton of talent. He’s a great shot blocker, but he’s a horrid rebounder, and he’s shooting 42/31 from the field, after 42/28 last season.
I dunno. He reminds me of DeRozan’s younger days in the sense that his impact on the floor differs greatly from what his advanced stats show as he opens the floor up for others. He adds another dimension to the Grizzlies on both ends of the floor. His DPOY odds have gone from 150-1 to start the season to 50-1 two weeks ago to 6-1 today.

The Nets just lost their sixth straight game, and it happened against Sacramento, who had a seven-game losing streak of their own coming into tonight.

Not sure what we can read into their recent stretch of play with Durant hurt, but it has to be alarming. Before the Celtics, they’ll have two traditionally tough road games at altitude (Utah then Denver) so it could get worse before it gets better.

I enjoy watching the Lebron-less Lakers.

AD's career plateaued early and he is always hurt. Their second best player is Carmelo Anthony. Their third best player is Malik Monk.

The middle/back of their roster is beyond horrible, none of them would even sniff the floor for most NBA teams. Every FO decision they have made recently (Westbrook, THT, Caruso, etc) has been atrocious. They have zero interesting young talent in the pipeline and no 1st round picks for the foreseeable future.

A Cleveland-Lebron trade honestly makes some sense, though I'm sure plenty of teams could beat the Cavs best non Mobley/Garland offer.

Davis just dragged the Lackers to victory over Portland in a game that kind of sucked - poor shooting, lots of empty turnovers and missed FTs. He just dominated on both ends, putting up 30/15 along with three blocks. @radsoxfan is right about that roster. Its rough.

Desmond Bane, on 2/2/22, wearing number 22, shot 22% with 2 assists, 2 steals, 2 blocks, 2 turnovers, and 2 fouls

C's have Detroit and Orlando coming up before the Nets game. We could well be tied with them going into that game in Brooklyn. And no Irving.

Adam Sandler has a movie coming out with a former Celtics player as his co-star, coming on the heels of KG in Uncut Gems. Please guess who you think it is.

It's Juancho Hernangomez

Pretty sure if you had given me 1,000 guesses, I never would have reached Juancho.

Either you are MUCH older than I thought, or congrats on the newborn.
LOL, it will be his 14th birthday on 2/22/22. He's been weirdly looking forward to this one for a few years....I'm still trying to figure out how to ruin it for him, like any good father would in my position.

If they didn’t have this preposterous drafting for the all star teams, especially when one of the captains is hurt, the West would have a huge size advantage, at least on the bench
