I agree about Gaethje, but really, nothing will surprise me. Cerrone with a head kick KO? Sure. Cerrone with a finish on the ground? Sure. But yeah, like Cerrone, Gaethje can do a lot of damage. And he can take more.

Cerrone is the ultimate gate keeper. I’m not of fan of his persona but there is no denying his talent. But when he fights elite guys (Tony, RDA) he falls.

While I don’t think Gaethje is elite, he’s in the next tier and I think he’ll be too much for him. Looking forward to it though.

I mostly agree. Who do you think is going to take Cerrone's place as gatekeeper-for-the-elite when he finally hangs up the gloves? I think that man is Gaethje.

Gaethje is six years younger and his pressure is smothering. He should get it done. But I do see him and Cerrone as being on the same tier. Just different places on the timeline.

On a different note, just wanted to say how much I enjoy DC calling a fight. The way he broke down the Cirkunov finish was really good.

Connelly is a fighter. Looked upset he couldn’t pull out the ko.

And this Pereira is another handsome fella. What’s up with all the male models in the ufc lately?

Love it. Heavy favorite comes in over weight against a short notice replacement moving up a class. Lots of antics. No-name local kid shows out.

Yeah, Duffee just wants a rest.

Edit: Or he didn't want to fight anymore. I didn't see him even blinking much to clear his vision.

Can’t ever really call someone out on choosing to retire due to injury, but you don’t see that a lot from guys who wanna keep fighting.

He wasn't focused (heh, get it?) on the doc checking him out or anything. Just kept mentioning he wanted time.

Edit: I wonder what Dana will think.

Yeah and he didn’t seem like someone with a scratched or poked eye. Like you said, usually there’s more blinking or rubbing or wincing.

Krylov is pretty good. This should be interesting. I think he was out of the UFC for a while, but I'm not sure why.

Didn’t Glover used to be super ripped and all jacked up? He get busted for PED or something?

That’s gotta take insane strength to stand up with a guy on your back like that.

Man, Krylov really telegraphs. Stops bouncing. Plants. Then moves his whole body forward before the strike.

Teixeira seems kind of lumbering and slow, but I don't think his hands really are.

Edit: like he kind of moves at changeup speed, and it makes his 90 mph fastball hands play a little faster.

He’s mostly counterpunching from close range, so his accuracy and ability to read Krylov’s punches coming in make up for his lesser hand speed.

Glover was old when he started in the UFC and that was years ago. His prime was in other orgs.
Oh heyyy.

How are these guys getting out of all these guillotines? Are they just not in deep enough, or are they not panicking and rolling out?

Don’t know. Just got in and put on fight. Generally guys fuck up guillotines by pulling away/arching instead of doing a sit-up and squeezing with your own chin over the guys traps (I’m talking about arm in guillotine). You have to be good with that choke to get it wearing mma gloves.

Donald should not fight dudes that hit that hard. He is too hittable. Sad to see but expected

Oh these two guys are friends. Justin's reaction to the ref not stopping the fight makes a lot more sense now.

Oh and now he calls out Khabib/Ferg. Yikes.

Short fight but still fun. I even like that Gaethje was hesitant to keep punching. Those two will be drinking some whiskey together tonight.

The Connelly/Pereira fight got 'fight of the night', which is usually a $50k bonus for each fighter. Connelly got the whole $100k because Pereira missed weight and was ineligible to get a bonus. Pretty cool for a guy taking his first UFC fight on five days notice and moving up a weight class against a huge, undefeated opponent to do it. Good for Connelly.

Dana sends a not-so-subtle message to the roster about big risks reaping big rewards. In this case it was Connelly taking a physical risk rather than a career risk, but still.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Tuivasa get his ass completely owned by a newb.
That was some of the worst grappling by Tuivasa that I have seen by someone at his alleged level.

Whitaker fought really bad. Stylebender is really fun and he capitalized on Whitaker’s mistakes but I’m pretty disappointed in Whitaker’s gameplan. It seemed like he was trying to run into right hands.
