A Quick review of this team

QB Keemem will be back most likely evan as a backup does denver pick a young QB in 19 get a vet or tank for 20 keemem had a ave first 3 mos and got worse in dec he is a high end backup low end starter

RB they are fine here maybe a 3rd down vet but with so many other holes rb is the least imp need on team
WR Sanders is a ? might miss the first 6 weeks or be cut sutton is raw but with a better QB wouid flash more WR Tim Patrick can be a 2nd WR with the right coach hamilton is a slot backup guy
TE Denver needs a vet here hereman is more suited to backup butt is a bust
OL bolies holds too much leary is most likey gone pardels might not be back verledder is a FA Expact at least 3 new starters here

DL Wolfe misses 2-4 games a year can he hold up gotsis is a run stiffer S Harris is underrated peko might be gone maybe even retirement

LB 3 of the 4 spots are set T Davis miller chubb and likely J Jewell Marshell will be gone so will barnett and ray
OLB Jeff holland could be a futre star had flashed in 2 games this year

CB denver needs at least 2 CB Issac Y shouild start at 1 spot Roby might be gone harris jr is a nickel CB
S simmons is hit/miss 16 was a star 17/18 has dropped off

bottom line i wont know how to judge uthil the new coach is here but unless elway hits the draft like last year 6/7 wins are likely

vic fangio is the new head coach kubiak is the OC

to me this saids we should had hired wade 2 years ago he will need 2 CB a mlb and more DE'S

the good he runs a atticking def that was number 1 this year ran SF def from 11-14
the bad at best this is john fox 2.0

this shouild work better than joseph but likely in 4-6 years denver will be looking again unless elway hits on the next 2 drafts like the one in 18

This most recent hire makes it clear that Elway doesn't do rebuilds. He believes this team can and should win now, and this will obviously dictate the offseason.

Keenum will be back or they will sign another vet, probably Flacco. There will be no first round QB as Elway doesn't have patience for him to develop. He'll likely try to hit on a longshot in the mid to later rounds. There will be no trading of veteran players for draft picks unless the player clearly has no role, ala DT. Free agency will be an attempt to overpay positions of of need, especially via short term contracts.

In other words, it will be more of the same from Elway. This approach worked well when he convinced Manning to come to Denver, but obviously hasn't since. I'm skeptical this is the right move now. It seems a full rebuild is needed, but, again, Elway doesn't do rebuilds.

And make no mistake about it, Gary Kubiak is essentially the head coach again. He'll run the offense and Fangio will run the D. Basically, this is the same as it was when it was Kubiak and Phillips, except Fangio will carry and throw the challenge flag rather than Kubiak, and the talent isn't as strong as it was then.

So if they were going to hire Fangio, why didnt they just make Wade Phillips the guy two years ago? Fangio is the slightly less successful and eight years younger version of Wade Phillips, isn't he? This feels like Elway is acknowledging that mistake now.

yeah elway is too impanint i actilly think keemem is gone because only kubiak wanted him and pushed elway to sign him

denver will sign a vet qb and draft 1 with our 1st or 2nd round pick denver actilly has good RB'S with freeman power lisdry one cut speed its looked like denver will hire mike muhcreck pitt as the o-line coach there are rumoers den wants SF qb coach to be their OC but kyle S blocked it

Vic Fangio has proven he can build top defenses and scoring defenses in this league. The Bears were the worst defense in the league and their history before he took over and made them into the a great group last year, and elite this year. They dominated the Rams when they played this year.

He had Justin Smith and Aldon Smith in San Francisco, Akiem Hicks and Khalil Mack in Chicago. He will already have a fantastic DE/LB combo in place when he arrives with Bradley Chubb and Von Miller.

If you're going to be in the same division as the Kansas City Chiefs and their offense, this man has the best resume to find a way to beat them.

...as a DC. But can he succeed as the HC?
He has nothing left to prove as a DC. It's refreshing to see him get a shot compared to the trend of looking for the next Sean McVay. A lot of that "success" is going to depend on Elway because he is picking the players and the staff. He's being compared here to Wade Phillips and the lesser option to rebuilding.

John Fox hired Fangio in Chicago and ran a 34 defense because of him, so Elway must have a very good idea of what he is getting in his new head coach. I'm excited to see him in the same division as the Chiefs next year.

There are different ways to skin a cat though, no? If Fangio gets a solid OC and cedes offensive control to him, then that seems like less risky than if he tries to run everything himself.

muchrek pitt o-line coach is comeing to denver in the same job wanted to be closer to his dauther family it looks like denver will hire
Rich Scangarello as oc was the 49ers qb coach the last 2 years
Well, Always gets someone from the Shanahan tree. Scangarello definitely did great work with Mullens this year, but it will be very interesting to see what kind of offense hits the field next season. Will Elway have a lot of direct input into the offense? How much input with Fangio have? Are we going to see a lot of Kyle Shanahan designs with Keenum?

elway has said he is intseded in college off that case is a short term qb i wouild think it wouild look like the 2017 18 49ers off i think fangio will try to up our turnovers because in the last 2 years ex for the JETS 17 and pitt 18 denver did not get many turnovers

Per the NFL transactions thread it won't be Foles. It's Flacco who is Broncos bound. I wonder why.

Case Keenum holds $10M of dead cap with the #Broncos including $7M of guaranteed 2019 salary. Releasing him clears $11M of space for Denver.

This is a... lateral move at best? Elway passing on a weak QB draft class?
I don't think this has any bearing on drafting a QB. Flacco has no guaranteed money for DEN; let's see what the draft capital cost is. Best-case, maybe they set up a PHI 2016 or NYJ 2018 preseason and can trade someone before the season.

Such an Elway move.

Considering they're giving up a 4th (reportedly, not confirmed), taking a cap hit with Keenum, paying Flacco more, and getting older at the position, it's a fairly steep price for a slight upgrade. This team should be getting younger, not older, but again, Elway doesn't do rebuilds.

No guaranteed money comes over with Flacco. A fourth isn't bad in that light.

I read it primarily as they want to compete now and it's relatively low-risk way to enhance their chances of doing so. Flacco is an upgrade on Keenum, and the hope has to be that they re-creat the Baltimore 'win with a great D' success Flacco did have.

If I were a Broncos fan I'd sure hope they still draft and develop someone young--Flacco is limited as well as on the back side of his career.

How is Flacco an upgrade?

2018: Keenum 62.3% / 6.6 YPA / 81.2 rating
2018: Flacco 61.2% / 6.5 YPA / 84.2 rating

It's a wash.

Woof. I hate this trade for the Broncos. Joe Flacco isn’t going to help you finish probably better than 3rd in a brutal division.

John Elway can thank Peyton Manning’s major injury and HGH for not being fired years ago.

What was Elway’s plan for when Peyton retired? Osweiler or Bust? Don’t get me wrong: he did a great job jumping on the opportunity when the Colts decided to Suck For Luck. And he put a great team together around him, including an elite defense that carried them when Peyton turned into a pumpkin.

But I haven’t been able to figure out how he went from having such a solid run to looking so ... aimless.

Seems to me the big Achilles heel of Elway is his inability to evaluate QB talent, oddly enough. Osweiler, Paxton Lynch, Flacco... man loves his tall QBs with big arms (I know Keenum was an exception in terms of height)

Elway does deserve credit for taking advantage of the Peyton situation and then surrounding him with more talent (especially guys like TJ Ward, Talib, etc.)... but if Peyton didn't choose to go to Denver, they'd be looking at a long stretch of mediocrity stretching all the way back to 2011, and I don't think anyone would be happy with Elway as GM.

it is a latieal move i dont like it but flcco best season was 2014 in kubiak off and he will give denver a deep ball by elway not doing rebuilds he is really setting denver back

shouild had done a 1 year deal with teddy b trade the 2019 1st for a 2nd and a 2020 1st this only works if they run a al davis deep ball off

elway has a almost free pass for a few reanos

1 mr b loves him like a son
2 without elway denver is buffalo west as far as tv markers go
3 with denver ownship fight likely to last 5-10 years i feel elway is almost untouchable for 5-10 years

2016 was simean shoulder inj a meltdown at home aga KC and a dropped pass @ tenn by B Folwer from makeing the playoffs
17 was turnovers no QB and a lot of the roster took a step back
18 was bad coaching see HOU CLE plus loseing sanders and c harris the last 4 games robbed denver of a 8-8 or 9-7 finish
