also the 2-0 to Brantley last inning was a critical call, Paxton may have unraveled if that was properly called a ball.

now Verlander doesn't get a clear 0-2 strike

Hinch is just wasting Verlander's bullets. Can't imagine he could come in behind Cole in Game 7 if needed.

I know Benintendi robbed him once, but the great Bregman has been invisible in all three ALCS he's played in.

He's at less than 90 pitches. I don't think it's an issue, really.
It night not be an issue if there was the normal travel day between Games 5 and 6.

I hope there is no Game 7, but if there is, it's hard to picture Verlander pitching on Sunday -- at least effectively.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Derek Lowe start the 7th game of the 2004 ALCS on two days rest? I believe he went six strong for the win. I'm sure Verlander can give them an inning if needed.

Lowe had two days. Verlander would have one. And he's 36, five years older than Lowe was at the time.

In 2001, Randy Johnson put in an inning in Game 7 despite having started Game 6 the previous night. And he was 37. Yeah, sure, he was also in the 3rd year of a run of 4 consecutive cy young awards and is probably one of the best 5 pitchers of all time, but it's not like Verlander is chopped liver.
