I just finished watching the Kings destroy the Cavs. The Cavs are a mess of course. But the Kings are really a decent team, which isn't great news for the pick. They may not be a playoff team out West, but they look close. They have a lot of good shooters, Fox and Hield have both made a big jump this year, the team has a good balance in terms of size, and rather depressingly, the Kings appear very well coached. Ah well ...

De'Aaron Fox (30 pts on 12-16 fg, 12 ast) outdueling Collin Sexton (23 pts on 9-16 fg) in an epic battle between exciting young point guards who could possibly switch uniforms without my noticing.

Kings crush Cavs, displace Dallas as the #8 seed in the West — for tonight, anyway.
Speaking of young point guards, what's up with Dennis Smith Jr? This "wrist" injury seems like it's a weird injury that just sprouts up again at times.

Brown/Tatum/Kyrie is more than one could reasonably ask for, but would certainly be nice for this to slip to 10 at least.

Dinwiddie assaulted going to hoop to try to win game. No call. Fucking Raptors.
This is at least the 3rd time this season Dinwiddie has done this. Officials swallow their whistles on these plays and have done so for decades so why Dinwiddie (and Atkinson) continue being baffled as to why they don't get this call is mind blowing. It's why Pierce shot his iso elbow jumper for all those years.....that's how you get clean looks to win games in this league.

It's great for the Nets that they got the win......even better for HRB who took the 8 and a hook in a classic trap game for the Raptors. :)

referring to oneself in the 3rd person is classic, but using the initials of their handle is sublime...

Swedish Larry Bird went from being buried on the bench in Motown to playing for an awesome Celtics squad and now the Warriors. He must feel like he hit the lottery.

Lakers take a 10 point lead into the 4th and proceed to get outscored 44-21 by the Spurs to lose by 13. I didn't know the Spurs had the offense to score 44 in a quarter. Wow.

DeRozen scores 36 but then no other Spur was above 14, with eight reaching double digits. Weird team this year.

I like Fox a lot; coming out of college he reminded me a lot of Tony Parker, with his speed and craftiness around the basket. He's made really meaningful improvements in his game since coming into the league and I wouldn't bet against him becoming a multiple-time All-Star in his career.

The Kings take a lot of shit for being a clown show and a lot of that is justified, but I think they've drafted pretty well. I like how they've acquired older, accomplished college players like Hield, WCS, Justin Jackson and Frank Mason because that may help set a level of professionalism with such a young team, in addition to the high-upside guys like Bagley and Fox.

They also hired Dave Joerger (Hi, SRN!) who is a pretty good coach and its probably not a coincidence that their young core is making a collective leap. Here is hoping that Vlade doesn't screw things up by firing him or undercutting him. Well, unless you want the Celtics to get a better draft pick but its not clear that will happen anyhow.

Luka went on an 11-0 run by himself to lift the Mavs over the Rockets tonight. Dallas is 13-11 and looking more and more like a playoff team each game. Also, how stupid are NBA GMs? Not one, not two, but three teams passed on Doncic on draft night.

I can forgive Phoenix because I still think Ayton is going to be a beast. But him slipping past #2 was insane even on draft night.

Social Chair posted the clip in the C's gamethread but it deserves to be reposted here. The kid is 19 and did this against the one team that actually put a scare into the Warriors last post-season. I know Houston lost some pieces but still...

I am always skeptical about draft prospects, especially european ones, since most people stateside haven't really seen them play.

But man, Doncic is something else. Ayton and JJJ are pretty fucking great too.

Bagley, Sexton, and Carter Jr aren't so bad either. Insane draft class.

Wall vs. Sexton last night:

Wall: 1 point (0-5 fg), -14
Sexton: 29 points (13-23 fg), +10

Sexton was on a B2B; Wall was on two days’ rest. Though apparently Wall now has bone spurs or something?

On the bright side, Wall’s only due $170M over the next four years.

How true is this now? Those games are widely available and the international leagues are very well scouted. Doncic was excelling in a league with a much higher level of play than Divsion I college basketball. I saw as many or more clips of him than most of the other prospects in this draft.

They are better at drafting Euros than they used to but they still swing and miss a bit. Of course they swing and miss on college players too. There was Bender at 4 and Papagiannis at 13 in 2016, Kristaps at 3 and Hezojana at 5 in 2015. Last year Markkanen and Ntilikina went 7 and 8. In 2014, Exum went 5, Saric 12.

Not sure what to make of that list. None of those guys were as hyped as Doncic though, maybe Exum was close... and Exum had very little film on him. He's also Australian, but for the sake of discussion he can go in that group.

With all the talk about medical opinions and who is or isn’t cleared to play someone should be held accountable for this. Wall wasn’t even able to move like at all last night yet was still run out there.

He's not going to last long at all. He's reactionary. They will just tune him out.
Agreed.

Scal was very critical of Boylen when he ripped out the starting 5 in the 1st quarter and then again in the 3rd quarter. Scal immediately questioned that move.

Boylen wanted his players to practice for 2 hours today after a back to back and a game tomorrow. The players refused and practice was canceled.
Boylen is an old dog......and sometimes you can’t teach them new tricks. Generally speaking the older coaches are more stubborn and set in their ways......clearly Boylen fits into this mold and that doesn’t work in today’s game.

Brogden is so smooth, two big 3-pointers in the last minute. That's 2 wins by the Bucks over the Raptors this year....and the Celtics only sit 2 games behind the Bucks.

Woj reporting that the Lakers are in advanced talks to acquire Trevor Ariza from the Suns. They are currently looking for a 3rd team to take KCP and kick back a PG or other assets to Phoenix. Trade can’t be completed until next Saturday when Ariza and KCP becone trade eligible.

Julius Randle with 37 points few nights ago on 15-24 shooting. That followed a 27 point performance on 11-16 shooting. Wonder whether the Lakers will regret giving him away for basically nothing.

It can’t be completed until KCP agrees to which team he agrees to be traded to as he has a no-trade clause as a one-year Bird rights player.

I have to assume however that there was a handshake deal that he’d sign for the $10m (or whatever) with the understanding that he wouldn’t kill a deal due to the quirky rules on the deal be signed.

He's also playing 21 minutes a game, so I imagine he'll be glad to be out so that he can put up some numbers.

Randle is solid but that cap space might bring an all star this summer.

Jim Boylen is one of the myriad reasons why the NBA is the best league. There's always something, even for the bottomfeeders. Who cares about a tanking Chicago team, you say? Well, here, let me show you Jim Boylen doing his best impression of Gordon Bombay during the part of Mighty Ducks 2 when he is doing his best impression of Wolf Stansson.

After this clip started circulating, I'm not sure many people will be siding with the players haha.

The Bulls get Portis and Dunn back tonight. I’m guessing that the intensity these two bring will put an end to clips like that. It will be interesting to see what becomes of Justin Holiday who was the “practice boycott initiator” along with LaVine. The latter can get away with stuff like this due to his contract......guys like Holiday end up in Phoenix because of it.

That was the argument last summer and it still doesn't make sense to me. Randle signed a 1+1 contract with an expectation of returning to free agency in the summer of 2019. It wasn't a long-term commitment. Obviously the downside risk is that Randle gets hurt or stinks and picks up that option, but there's probably a number you can get to on a one-year deal that makes him give up the option. Whether that's $12MM or $15MM I have no idea, but either would have been a better use of resources than KCP, or KCP+Lance.

Randle shares an agent with Paul George and D'Angelo Russell. His leaving in free agency had little to do with the player and everything to do with the bad vibes with the agent.

looks like Randle has replaced Mirotic in the starting lineup too. Last 2 games anyway.
Mirotic missed the prior two games with a leg injury but this may also have been matchup dependent against Gasol/JJJ and Drummond/Blake. With the Celtics starting Theis, Rozier and 3 wings I’m expecting Randle to return to his normal role.

Lakers defeat the Heat at Staples 108-105 behind Kuzma's 33 points and LeBron's 28 points (and 9 boards and 12 assists) as LA bids adieu to Dirty Wade. The Lakers are a game out of first place in the West.

Meanwhile, the Steph Curry '18-19 Videogame Experience continues as he goes for 38 on 12-23 shooting including 7-14 from deep and Draymond Green returns from an injury hiatus to log a team high +11 with 10 boards and seven assists as the Warriors beat the T-Wolves 114-102. KAT paces Minnesota with 31 points (11-15 from the field) and 11 boards.

Toronto visits Oakland on Wednesday but only after playing a deep but star-less Clipper team tomorrow night. I know B2Bs are necessary evil but if ever a match-up needs both teams at full strength, its the Raptors @ Warriors game.

15-5 in their last 20, that is a quarter season of 60 win pace.

Amazing how much talk there was of Kyrie being a flat earther but no one mentions Steph Curry believing the moon landings are a lie and we've never been to the moon.
