I went in about three years ago and hit for about 90 mins with the guy. We started out with five iron sets that I had hit elsewhere and liked and then just let the trackman stats narrow it down to a set of TM R11s. Hit 5-8 balls with each, now let's change this and hit again. Okay, these two irons aren't performing as well for you, so let's toss them, tweak this on the other three and hit again. Ok, let's toss this one and then clip this thing to your shaft and hit those two again. Stats are kicking out this shaft, so let's try each club with that shat and all those other tweaks. Results are close so do the TMs or the Callaways please the eye more or give you more confidence at address? Cool, let's go with the TMs then.
I'm 5'10" and they fitted me for shafts a half inch long, a half degree upright. We put in TT Dynamic Gold stiff shafts, as opposed to the KBS stock shafts and we determined I was in between regular and midsize grips, so we did regulars with extra tape wraps. I wanted wraps, so I got Lamkin wraps instead of stock grips. All of this was no extra charge. He also fitted me for wedges (sand and lob) to account for my new gaps in yardage from the new set. I forget the price, but it got lopped off the price of the irons (which were the new model, but TM usually does a midsummer sale on new stuff for $100 off), so I paid $700 total and they were shipped directly to my house a couple weeks later. I strike the ball much better. My problem is my driver and my mental game, especially around the greens.
