Man, I just can't figure out my swing. Driver is just way off, irons are inconsistent, everything feels wrong. I have just enough good shots thought to make me think that it's not totally lost. Going for a lesson on Thursday to see if I can get some working tips to focus on to at least get me back to even. Frustrating right now.

That day we were gonna play I ended up playing late afternoon with a buddy at Blackstone. It was my best round of the year after the first couple holes. Shot 90, but it's a tough course, had 4 pars in row. Everything was good. I took a lesson the next day which was great and the video showed me exactly how to get my swing in order, and where my "natural" swing was going wrong. But using that new swing in a round is tough. I can now hit the driver off the tee pretty well but consistency has taken a huge nosedive. I guess I'll just have to practice until it becomes the "natural" swing.

I was worried about all this as well when I first made the switch to spikeless and none of it was an issue. Plenty of traction and I got about 75-80 round out of my first pair - actually a stitch ripped before the soles wore down. They are super comfortable. I'm kind of an Adidas whore when it comes to athletic footwear, they just fit my foot best, so I rock the Adicross, but I've heard great things about the Eccos too, they're just way more expensive.
Just throwing another vote in for this.  I've had no issues since switching.  I actually find the grip better on the spikeless in all but very wet conditions.  I am a convert to Truegolflinks shoes and wear nothing else when I'm walking.

I would think walking along the cart path, club house, parking lot would wear down the textured soles requiring frequent replacement. I guess there's a savings not having to keep replacing soft spikes on traditional shoes, but my course replaces soft spikes for free anyway.
I bought a pair of spikeless Walter Hagen shoes on clearance today. They remind me a bit of indoor soccer shoes in terms of how they feel. I'll report back once I get a full round in walking in a week or two. They are significantly more comfortable out of the box than the Nikes I've been wearing (although that's not hard--the Nike shoes are lousy--FJ straight up makes better shoes and I don't think it's close). I'm a little worried about grip but the way I've been swinging I think I would rather just be comfortable and bad than uncomfortable and bad.

"Just enough good shots." That's pretty much what keeps everyone coming back, isn't it?

Got in a round over the weekend. Didn't keep score but probably something around 90 off the middle tees. Bogeyed my way around the front. Came in really strong (+3 over the last 7) but a pair of lost balls to start the back nine were a downer. Driver has gone from total disaster to mystery result territory: a nice split between duck hooks, blocks right, and the 1 in 4 bomb down the middle. So I have no clue where it is going but when I actually launch one it feels great! Irons remain consistent and more serviceable than they should be--hitting buckets of only 7-irons feels like it paying off.

IMO Ecco golf shoes are the best. I have two pair and I can walk on them all day without any discomfort. They are expensive but you get what you pay for. Zappos carries a good selection and sometimes you can get some great deals when they are on sale

Assuming you were clear about how much you wanted them cut down, it sounds like he owes you replacement shafts cut to the correct length. Are you sure it was too much? I would think an inch less on a wedge would feel like a huge change.

Yeah I'm sure, and I think my instructions were pretty clear. I wanted all my wedges the same length as my PW.

I love my Nike TW mesh. They're like a cross trainer with but with all the grip anyone would need. They aren't as comfortable as my footjoys but they have more grip and I like the angle more. I never liked spiked shoes. I don't feel like I can have an athletic swing with stiffness and fewer contact points on the spiked shoes.

Shouldn't they all have already been shorter than your PW or did they cut that down too? Sounds like he just did the normal step down, but yeah if you wanted them one way and were explicit I would definitely ask for a reshaft gratis.

Took a lesson today at Pine Hills. Was supposed to be an hour but actually went about an hour and a half. Made some adjustments to my backswing and keyed on one swing thought and by the end was hitting them better than I have all year. Still a lot of work needed to get consistent and repeatable but finally feeling better about my swing again. Well worth it.

I feel ya, I am trying to go through a swing change and it's an incredibly long and hard process.  My problem is that when you put a golf club in my hands, every inch of my soul wants to start the downswing by turning my hips and shoulders and throwing the club out to the right.  It's slice, slice, fat shot, slice, thin, slice, slice, you get the picture.

This year I finally decided to get serious about it but I've started from the ground up, initially spending my practice time on correcting alignment issues and working on the taking a proper back swing (after year's of slicing I have over compensated take the club wayyyy inside on the backswing).  Now I feel like I have a good starting position at address and the top of the swing.  The next challenge has been initiating the downswing.  Really trying to learn to start the downswing with my lower body, I've been doing a lot of that drill where you get into your back swing and bump your left hip against a chair.  It's slowly starting to take hold and I feel like my arms are naturally dropping to a point where I can swing on a better plane.

Although with any change I've over corrected some and sometimes my little hip "bump" is a huge weight shift and I get the club stuck behind me leading to some pretty weak contact.  But that's the process right?  Find a problem, over correct, fine tune, find consistency.  It just takes a long long time and lots of stamina to practice the little things over and over.  I'm still flipping at the ball some as well, but I've found that I can only really concentrate on fixing one issue at a time.  There are unfortunately no short cuts.

It's helping a lot. I think it helps in two ways.
1. It lets me know which drills I respond to. I'll do a drill for a few minutes then turn on the zepp and hit a few balls. Sometimes I'll see immediate progress on the zepp from the drill (that will slowly degrade until it's time to drill again) but sometimes I'll do a drill and then see no change when I swing. So it's helped me narrow down the way I practice and get more out of the time I have at the range.

2. It's really made some connections between the way I swing good or bad and how that feels. I think it really let me "learn" my swing and from there it's easier to start to feel the changes.

Played in my league tonight, at cranston country club in RI. Shot a 47 but made 4 pars during the round. So had some really good holes and two holes I just straight blew up on. But it's progress, gotta keep working and finding consistency. My partner and I won our matches by a big margin tonight, so that's always a plus.

I was in Boston for two weeks recently and ended up being very lucky.  Got out for a round at Turner Hill in Ipswich. Just an insanely awesome course.  Shot 92.  My driver killed me on the front and don't think I hit a fairway. Shot 51.  Left driver in the bag when we made the turn and hit my 3 and everything changed. Hit all fairways and shot 41 coming in and it made the day much more enjoyable.

That is a beautiful looking course.  I'm really looking forward to being back in New England for two weeks next month and getting a few rounds in.

You know you've been on SoSH for too long when just about the first thing anyone asks you at the bash is 'what's up with your golf game' and my answer is its scitzophrenic

I'm playing right to my handicap 19 index, but burning the right edge on putts. I mean I shot 47 and 48 on thurs and fri nights, but had 3 or 4 lip outs or just slide by the edge each night

I guess that means it's time to change putters again, good thing I've got about a dozen in the basement

I went 41/51 today. Just cannot put two nines together this year. Can't hit a full sand/lob wedge to save my life. When I sync my Game Golf, I fully expect that one sand wedge I skulled today went roughly 195 yards.

Played River Bend in West Bridgewater last min notice w a buddy this am.

Shot an 87. With two 4 overs. And 3 ob drives on the back 9. PRd putting with only 31 putts. Chipping was on the money. Those 8s will haunt me, as i had a great shot at 79 without them.

The first was comical. After trying to draw my driver the first 7 holes, i hit a monster power draw...dead into water that i didnt see. Hit my 3rd 2 yards short of the green....into more water.

After not touching a club for 10 days though i was pleased.

PP whats Golf Game? Looking for something to track my game, you might have described it before but i dont recall.

It's a GPS tracking system. So basically you screw little sensor plugs into all your clubs and then clip a small gadget about two inches square to your belt. Before you hit, you tap the butt end of your club, it vibrates to acknowledge you're check in and then you swing. When you get home you hook it up and it will download the round and you can see an overlay of your round. If you forgot a shot, had a penalty, or the GPS was a little off, you can edit it. It'll track your GIRs, FIRs, sand saves, putts per round, yardage by club, accuracy, etc.

There's another newer system called Arccos that you don't have to do the tapping. The drawback is that the sensors in your club are a lot bigger, they have battery in them (that need to be replaced after some time - I think I read 40-50 rounds) and it works off of the gps in your phone, so you're going to kill your battery there too. It's also a lot more expensive. I think it launched at $400 but is down to $300 now. GG you can grab for under $170.

I have a handful of other guys that got GG and most of us like it. One guy used it for two rounds and ditched it because "he felt it was distracting him from his game". He's kind of pretentious douche at times, so ymmv. The rest of us have varying levels of success rate remembering to log in, but I've found it very easy to incorporate as I have a pretty standard pre shot routine and I just added it in. If you do forget, you can edit it online. I generally take a quick photo of the scorecard with my phone after and if I missed a shot, I don't have trouble remembering where I was and what I hit. I do have trouble with remembering number of putts at times so the scorecard pic helps a lot.

http://www.arccosgolf.com

https://www.gamegolf.com

If you have interest in the GG system let me know. My buddy that ditched it has it sitting in a drawer and isn't the eBay type. I can probably help you out, he literally used it for two rounds.

Edit to southshore: your pm box is full, but just texted my buddy, it's yours for $100 if you want it. I'll offer you first refusal then it's there for anyone else if they want it. No real rush but let me know in a week or two?

I played Quechee Lakeland in VT today thanks to my wife's grandmother. Amazing course. I hit the ball pretty well with my recent swing adjustments and hitting it a good 10 yds further on every club. My putting was horrific but happy I could swing pretty consistently.

I bought a Zepp off PP recently through PayPal.  If it has been an Amazon or Ebay transaction then I would have rated him with 5 stars.

Had my best round of the year on Sunday, shot an 87 (43/44) at Beaver River in Rhode Island.  It's a short course and not terribly difficult, but results are results.  Had the driver and 3 wood in the fairway all day long.  That has always been my biggest issue.  It is such a more enjoyable game if you are not scrambling from the woods after every single tee shot.  Probably could score even better if I had any distance control with a wedge from 60 to 90 yards out.  Rolled/bounced over three greens and put myself in some very bad spots.

I forget who shared that spinning chip shot video but ive hit some beauties w Butchs tips the last couple rounds.

Jordan Spieth also added keep the follow through low and fast. The two tips combined has me getting a nice checking effect. So thanks again to the SoSH golf thread.

Do you find them useful? I'm always dubious how accurate or seamless they would be.

It's definitely accurate. I've found maybe once or twice a round you may need to move your drive a yard or two to get a fairway hit for your stats, but it's pretty on top of it.

Seamlessness depends on if you have a mental barrier to incorporating it into your routine. I havent had much issue - last round I played on Sunday, which was probably my 10th with it, I logged literally every swinging stroke and missed maybe a half dozen gimme putts.

I'm just getting into the area where the sample size is big enough to find it useful, but I'm not the most consistent guy out there. Ymmv based on that.

Haha. I'm as likely to shoot an 85 as I am to shoot a 105 lately , so it's tough for me to put $100 on a round. Would love to play with you or anyone else here and I'll gamble with the best, but that's a bit steep for my blood. Playing quota for $20 a man plus junk, has been good to me this season, so that's kind of my limit. I'm certainly game for anything, that's just a bit rich for me. [emoji5]️

So I was at the range tonight. Hit my driver and the shaft broke right at the hosel. The head went flying out into the range. I went and got it and the head doesn't look broken while the shift is absolutely dead.

It was a Callaway X2 Hot that I bought last July. I already checked and Callaway does warranty their clubs for two years. So that good. However, I bought it from Amazon, not a reseller but actually from Amazon. The warranty is only good for purchases from authorized dealers. I am going to call callaway tomorrow but does anyone know if Amazon would be an authorized dealer?

Also has anyone ever sent a broken club back back to a manufacturer based on the warranty? Any ideas on the turn around time? Weeks? Months? I have my old driver to hold me over, assuming I can use the warranty.

If not I'm hopeful the head can be put on a new shaft.

Edit: found it on the callaway website. Amazon is an authorized retailer. So hopefully I can use the warranty.

I have a friend that broke a 5 year old Taylormade R12 (I think?) and he had no receipt or anything. I think he got it used off of eBay. They sent him a brand new SLDR. I think the manufacturers can be pretty easy to deal with on their broken stuff.

Called Callaway this morning, they were great.  They are going to ship me a new club with pretty much no questions asked, I just have to ship the broken one back to them.  Quick and easy process.

We had a memorial tournament Friday for a friend who died suddenly in Jan from a massive heart attack. Guy was one of the greatest athletes in the town history and needless to say we didn't just sell out, we over sold it. 38 groups shotgun at 2 and sent another 6 off earlier at 8:30. $ went to put a granite bench on a tee in his honor, the rest going to town rec department. You guys all know how these things go, winning score always wicked low and one of the morning groups posted -13. We started on 10 and were -2 after 4 holes the. The fun began. One guy chiped in for eagle on 15, I holed a 12' for bird on 16, pared 17, then I went nuts. Now any of you that I talked to about golf at the bash know my games been in he shitter for a few weeks, I've never in my life had a run like this: we birdied 18 thru 6 all but one of them being drained by me who was 2nd in the putting order. I'd get in the cart, crack another BL and partner driving would say we're 6, 7 lets get to doubles...by the 5th I hit a 15' and started walking after it left the club. We got to -14 in fact left an eagle chip on our 18th on the lip to win

Granted we had an 11 as our low man and a damn good woman player but when we were asked how we did it the reaction to "Frank was on fire" was uniform "you've got to be shitting me"

So how juiced are the swing trackers at a typical dicks sporting goods?

Stopped in to get some new spikeless shoes and some balls today and decided to test the AeroBurner driver.

It registered me multiple times between 116-119 swing speed w drives well over 300.

Im typically 275-280 off the tee and have been playing an old school Burner for a while now.

It also had a Cobra 3 wood at 109 with a 271 total distance.

5 percent juiced?
