@colinkelly68 @mtaibbi @tomecurran Woody Johnson just tampered with Revis

@tomecurran Saw that. Knee-bucklingly stupid. Just know the rules. RT "@colinkelly68: @mtaibbi @tomecurran Woody Johnson just tampered with Revis”

What is the protocol for that? Is it supposed to be a low-round draft pick, with potential for higher if he ends up signing with the Jets? Is it just a fine? I mean, this one was exceptionally blatant and from the owner, no less. Generally, the major sports seem to look away at tampering (except maybe MLB), but hard to ignore this one.

The NFL is rife with tampering. Just wait until we hit the eve of FA.

As far as Woody is concerned, I don't believe the League did anything to JJ re Adrian Peterson.

I 100% believed the report last night that they were prepared to let Rex twist in the wind. I suspect that one of Wolf or Casserly or maybe both passed the word that this stuff won't fly. And when SF and Harbaugh mutually parted ways in a classy way, it became clear even to Woody that this was untenable.

Isn't this tempering?
Yes, Woody has fried Revis in a light batter

Some tampering rulings from the past:
http://sfo.scout.com/story/740323-nfl-hits-niners-hard-with-tampering-penalty (from 2008) after the 49ers allegedly contacted Briggs' agent.

The NFL came down hard on the 49ers on Monday as commissioner Roger Goodell ruled that San Francisco is guilty of tampering with linebacker Lance Briggs of the Chicago Bears and the team must forfeit a fifth-round selection in the upcoming draft and swap picks with the Bears in the third round.
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/02/18/league-finds-lions-guilty-of-tampering/ (from 2011) after a blanket statement about Chiefs players from the Lions DC

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that the league has nailed the Lions for tampering with Chiefs players.  The Lions will lose a seventh-round pick acquired from the Broncos in 2011, and the Chiefs and Lions will swap fifth-round picks.

So there is precedent.

The Jets having to switch picks with the Pats in pretty much any round would have to be one of the largest changes in a pick in a round ever, no?

Here
They just asked Belichick about the Revis situation on WEEI. I was fully expecting the standard "no comment" type of answer, but it seemed fairly clear he wasn't happy. "I would hope that would be something the league will be looking into. It's something they should be looking into."

He really, really hates that organization.

EDIT - We'll never know, but I'd guess he doesn't say that if Mara or Tisch made a similar comment.

If only Rex had tempered some expectations from time to time.

Mara and Tisch are not stupid enough to make comments like that.

(4 of 4): "In conclusion, I'd love to bring Revis back to the Jets."

(5 of 5): "Shit!"

I'm not sure that this is exactly a "clarification."  "Let me clarify the incredibly stupid thing that I said that violates league policy.  I shouldn't have said it as it violates league policy to do so."

Is calling another owner in this situation really smart?  I would think that STFU is the best course.

It looks like Jerry Jones got out of his Adrian Peterson tampering snafu by having his front office call Minnesota's front office and ironing out hard feelings. If the damaged team needs to ask the NFL to look into it (not sure if that's the case) then apologizing to Kraft could potentially get the Patriots to not pursue it with the league.

The tampering is only the third funniest development out of the Jets after:
1. Woody saying he got "duped" by Idzik, and
2. Woody wearing that stupid white hat with his suit.

When he was a kid people probably called him "Spalding."

He's holding Revis at a steady 88-91 degrees fahrenheit, so as to ensure that he retains a glossy sheen and doesn't melt to the touch.

Per Danny Kelly at Field Gulls, Jets "management" has 4 hours on Saturday to interview Seahawks DC Dan Quinn for their HC job.

This would be too smart by the Jets, so this won't go well.  I forbid them from taking Quinn.  They can have OC Darrell Bevell though.

Gary Kubiak would be such a great hire...for Pats fans.
Beat me to it. A Kubiak hire would basically guarantee a slew of 6 to 9 win seasons and present no credible threat. Maybe he would even bring back the lettermen jackets.

Jets bringing in Frank Reich, Tom Cable, Todd Bowles, and Gary Kubiak for head coaching interviews.

Not a very inspiring list, although I give them credit for looking at some young guys like Reich and Bowles to take the reigns.

I can't imagine them bringing in Bowles, as he is essentially Rex Ryan Lite. Reich is an interesting option, although I don't think he's ever really shown an ability to elevate offenses, and he seems pretty mediocre.

If the Jets end up with any of these 4 choices, I think its a win for the Patriots.

Could someone fix the thread title? "Temperin" is driving me crazy, unless there's a joke I'm missing.

Woody wants Coach and GM to report directly to him. It's like he never managed anything or read a management book in his life.

Damn. I truly don't get it. Does Rex Ryan enjoy tempering chocolate or glass when he's not massaging feet?

He's basically doing the Jerry Jones model except with a shit roster. Good luck with that, Woody.

Except that Jerry Jones has some actual football knowledge. It's more like Ted Turner and the Braves.

John Mara is on NFLN right now. There can be no greater contrast with Woody.

Par for the course, I say. Four out of five threads there eventually turn into a Spygate rehash.

#Jets are expected to make a significant push for #Ravens assistant GM Eric DeCosta, per source. Many have tried for the respected executive

I'd die a happy man if DeCosta was given absolute control and then hired back his old Ravens buddy Rex.

But seriously, leaking that you're trying to hire a guy who probably isn't going to join you is just fucking stupid.
