People I would not want to be: Joe McCarthy, with that fastball coming within an inch of his nose.

UVA doing themselves no favors. The last 2 outs vs Ferrell were on first-pitch swings. They just gave him another inning of availability.

On to the t-12th.

Whit Mayberry on in relief of Howard for UVA against the bottom 3rd of the TCU order.

EDIT - A leadoff walk to Dylan Fitzgerald.

EDIT - Keaton Jones whiffs. Huge out with no advancement.

EDIT - Kyle Bacak singles to short left-center, and Fitz tries to go to 3rd. He's out easily on a great throw by Brandon Downes.

EDIT - Meeting at the mound with a 2-0 count on leadoff hitter Cody Jones.

EDIT - Foul-Swing & Miss-Swing & Miss, and down he goes. Inning over.

Fitzgerald made a horrible baserunning decision there. Just awful.

I was looking for Dale Sveum waving him around the bag at short.

I would love to blame the base coach but he not only didn't look at him - he was looking right at the CF as he made the deep turn at 2nd. Horrible baserunning.

A first-pitch 6-3 grounder by Odell leads off the t-13th.

EDIT - Boomer White hits the 2nd pitch to 3rd, retired 5-3. Two down.

EDIT - And a first-pitch line out to LF by Cron.

Way to make Mayberry work, boys. Four pitches, three outs.

Nice to see Mayberry get 3 quick outs after digging himself into a few holes last inning. Is it too much to ask for a Papi walk off?

Another Papi-Ferrell showdown.

EDIT - Or maybe not. RHP Trey Teakell takes the hill. Surprising not to see Ferrell for another hitter or two.

Solid single to RF for Garrett Crain to lead it off for the Frogs.

EDIT - Pitching change mid-batter with a 1-1 count on Suiter. Mayberry was solid tonight (2 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K, 30 pitches), and here comes Artie Lewicki.

EDIT - A pinch-hitter mid-stream as well, with Will Fox up.

EDIT - The bunt is lofted and caught for the out. Fitzgerald up.

EDIT - Down on three pitches, the last with inside-out movement gets him looking. Sweet. Keaton Jones up.

EDIT - Oooooo. Lucky break there as the pick-off throw nearly got past Papi.

EDIT - An easy fly to LF ends the inning. On to the b-14th.

Derek Fisher leads off for UVA vs Teakell, and he's down swinging on three pitches.

EDIT - Downes also whiffs, putout at first base. Teakell's breaking stuff is dropping like rocks.

EDIT - LaPrise with a one-hopper back to Teakell, and that's it. On to the 15th.

A 1-2-3 inning for Lewicki, but Downes misjudged Odell's liner to center field and it almost went over his head. A last-second adjustment and he gloves it.

Feels like an elimination game now, as I'm sure Ole Miss is loving this.

Wow. Irving falls behind 0-2, battles back to 3-2, and pounds a ground-rule double to LF. We might be set up for a walk-off now with the top of the UVA order up.

EDIT - Tommy Woodruff runs for him. Cogswell up, 3 hits tonight.

Hey, how about you go catch 200 pitches and then smoke a double. Well-earned rest, Irving.

Hey ESPN, don't show two old people hugging in the stands. It's a fucking walk off. SHOW THE PLAYERS ON THE FIELD, YOU ASS HATS.

Another pitchers' duel underway with RHP Chad Hollingsworth for Texas and lefty Evan Manarino for UC-Irvine. They're scoreless through 4 innings. Hollingsworth with 59 pitches (2 H, 0 BB, 4 K) and Manarino with 51 (2 H, 1 BB, 5 K).

TD Ameritrade Park was all abuzz in the b-3rd when UCI's Taylor Sparks belted a deep drive to the right-center gap, but Longhorns CF Mark Payton made another incredible catch in what's become a parade of web gems during this year's CWS. A full-sprint lay-out at the warning track. Hopefully a GIF or vid clip will emerge online, but this was just incredible.

Ben Johnson becomes the first player for either team to get as far as first base tonight with a 1-out triple in the 6th. It was a hard grounder down the 3B line, just past the glove of a diving Taylor Sparks. LF Adam Alcantara had trouble picking it up, allowing Johnson to take the extra base, but we'll have to see if an error is charged.

EDIT - Well, holy crap. UCI appeals, saying Johnson didn't touch first base when he rounded it -- and they win it. Johnson is called out. Amazing. Crystal clear on replay, too. It proves costly, as Payton singled to CF as the next guy up.

Oy oy oy. If we lose tonight Johnson is rightly going to feel really, really bad. What a stupid, careless mistake. I hope that doesn't cost us the game.

Irvine with a one-out baserunner as Chris Rabago grounds to short, but C.J. Hinojosa's throw to first is in the dirt. Kacy Clemens tries to scoop it, but it pops out of his snow cone. E-6 on the play.

EDIT - Rabago takes 2nd on a wild pitch.

EDIT - But he gets no further as Jerry McClanahan whiffs on the next offering.

Scoreless through 6 now.

Hinojosa goes yard. In THAT park. A fucking shortstop.

1-0, Horns. Man, he creamed that.
