He's actually 5'9", 255 pounds.  I liked the safe comment too.

Not surprised by this start either, but UCF looks even better than I expected.  They look possessed and determined to lay it to Baylor and all of the critics.  I hope they continue this all the way through the game.  Bortles has a chance to legitimately make himself millions of dollars tonight.

UCF is making this look easy.

On a side note, I had no clue UCF has 51,000 undergraduates.  Holy crap.

Also shocked to learn they are the 2nd biggest university in the US.

Disappointed with all those Floridian undergrads they cant find better cheerleaders. I think one was pregnant there. Yikes they are bad.

Oh boy.  UCF puts the ball on the ground again.  3 turnovers in the half, and they gave Baylor great field position on Baylor's first td drive after a bad punt.  Baylor punches one in here, and they might never look back.

And Baylor gives it right back.

If that happens, RG2 is the de facto head coach.

Yup. I do not believe his presence at the game and visibility during this broadcast are accidental.

The guy they should have hired here was just hired by the TB Bucs

I need to invent a football with a GPS thing at the nose so you get auto notification if it crosses the plane, is a 1st down, etc.

For the gamblers out there....surprised not to see this detailed earlier...

So did anybody else have LSU -7?

Because if you did...

LSU led for most of the second half by 14-7 but was generally moving the ball better than Iowa. When the Hawkeyes missed a gimme field goal, and later threw an interception deep in LSU territory, it was finally money time. With 5 minutes to go, LSU put a real drive together behind some outstanding power running by Jeremy Hill, the bengals finally got their TD and went up 21-7 with just two minutes to go. And I felt damn good about my bet...

...for the length of a commercial break. Iowa ran back the ensuing kickoff to the house and we were back looking at a push. But then...

...replay showed the kick returner stepped out at the LSU 5 yard line. So it was still 21-7 with about 1:40 to play. First and goal on the five isn't exactly a great situation, but at least there was still a chance to win the bet. And then...

...a heavy sack of the Iowa QB on first down. Fumble. Recovered by LSU. My seven point cover is SAFE! Screaming with joy, and then....

....the referees overturn the on-the-field fumble call and rule the play an incomplete pass. It was a very borderline call (Gruden felt it was a fumble and, in any event, too close to be overturned), but the refs gave the ball back to Iowa. On the next play, Iowa scored and it was back to a push at 21-14 with about a minute and a half left. And then...

After covering the inside kick, LSU somehow botches the chance to just run out the clock and winds up punting it back to Iowa with 8 seconds to go. The Hawkeyes embark on one of the wild "keep laterraling it" plays and steadily are moving the ball backward to their own end zone trying to avoiding getting tackled. And the laterals are pretty wild and I'm thinking they're about to thrown one out of their own end zone, or set up an LSU fumble recovery in he end zone to get me back to cover-ville. And, sure enough, an IOwa player is about to be tackled in the end zone when he bats the ball forward to a teammate around the 5-yard line, who promptly fumbles out of bounds. Time is out, but the refs, correctly, throw a flag for illegal batting. The foul took place in the end zone... Automatic safety. LSU would go up 23-14 and cover!! But then...

Miles, unsurprisingly, declines the penalty and takes the 21-14 win and the push. I know that's the sportsmanlike thing to do and I was hardly surprised, but I'd think at a super corrupt institution like LSU, the head coach would honor the gamblers and do everything within his power to deliver the cover.

You let me down Miles, you really let me down.

This game is delivering, big time. UCF has some real athletes, they could put the American on lockdown for a few years if they can replace Bortles to any reasonable extent.

The Baylor D just can't stop UCF right now without fouling them.  I think the announcers have been spot-on: committing PI is just not necessary, you can trust yourself, and they're going to call it every time - but the DBs are doing it anyway.

I was going to say the same thing that BMHH said.  I had LSU -7.5 as well.  That was a kick in the pants.  Fortunately, I have a 3 team parlay going with Michigan State, UCF and the UCF/Baylor over (already covered).  $100 pays about $800.  I don't think Baylor will make up the 17.5 points I'm getting at this point, so I feel pretty good, but it honestly wouldn't be the worst beat I've ever had.

Baylor is just self-destructing right now, it seems. .

Seastrunk has 112 yards on 15 carries tonight, which puts him right on his season average of 7.5ypc.  That's just BELOW his career average of 7.6.  He's a special kind of playmaker.

One of the most amazing, and strange statistics you'll see in a while:  He has ZERO receptions on the season.  You'd think a guy with his game breaking ability would almost require a team to figure out a way to get him the ball in space, but apparently, Baylor just doesn't need him for that.  He had 9 catches last year for 107 yards (11.9ypc).

Bortles has been awesome tonight.  Slips away from a sack and dumps it off for 20 yards that likely ends this game.  It must feel great to increase your worth by a few million in 3 hours.

He is a really great talent,  but that offense is very running back friendly,  a whole lot of spread the field and sneak the ball to the RB when the world is expecting pass.

In terms of the 0 catches.   Andre Williams the nations leading ball carrier also caught 0 passes this year.  Seastrunk is definitely more of the type of back you would expect to be a pass receiver.

Twib, can't quote posts, but you may be right, however, I think he ceased be a holder at some point there.  I went back and rewound it and watched it in super slow motion.  He caught the snap, put the ball down and then lost the handle on the ball.  He regained the handle and then attempted to re-spot it.  At that point, the kicker then aborted the kick, and then with his knee still down, he started to get up and run with it.  I think had he caught the snap and got up immediately, he would have been ok, but when he bobbled it and then re-spotted it, I think he had to lift his knee off the ground before running with it.  I could be wrong, but that would be my interpretation.  interesting question anyway, but it doesn't matter in the end.

Here's the wording of the rule:

Rule 4, Article 3, Section b:

A live ball is dead when "any part of the ball carrier’s body, except his hand or foot, touches the ground or when the ball carrier is tackled or otherwise falls and loses possession of the ball as he contacts the ground with any part of his body, except his hand or foot. (Exception: The ball remains alive when an offensive player has simulated a kick or is in position to kick the ball held for a place kick by a teammate. The ball may be kicked, passed or advanced by rule) (A.R. 4-1-3-I)."

My reading is that a holder's knee can come up and go back down, as long as there's the possibility of a kick.

I'm not sure if anyone is watching the piece on McCarron and his buddy AJ Starr with CP. McCarron picked the kid up at a bus stop after some buses passed him by and drove him to class. Starr was a huge Ala fan and so McCarron helped get him a job as equipment manager. Damn fine story.

Man, if the Oklahoma defender simply slowed down and set up his blocks, or even lateralled it off to a teammate, that would have been an easy touchdown going the other way on the fumble recovery.  Pretty amazing game to this point.
