What is most encouraging is you can see their rough spots. They are figuring out how to play together. And they played 2 tough defensive teams with team continuity and overcome their own unevenness.
When they hit their stride this team is going to be something else.

I'm watching from poker room w no volume. What was she saying? I mean there is no possible way that call should have been upheld. The backcourt occurred full action after the foul that wasn't called....that foul can't be part of the backcourt review.
The coach's challenge was for the foul before the uncalled back court (because foul).

Eh, they make up stuff all the time. They gave Miami a free point on a Tatum “delay of game” which was literally the ball hitting him and bouncing into the stands.

The foul is what was called. Back court was never called iirc
The foul that occured prior to the backcourt which is what stopped play? How can that even be what the challenge was? Wow that's nuts. I'll have to watch it to make sure I understand what happened.

Ha. I was joking....She was convinced it initially wasn't a foul.

It was a late whistle, happens all the time in the NBA

I think it was a very late call. I also had the sound off so I'm not sure. it was a just result

The ref saw the foul and let it go until backcourt and then called the foul instead of calling a violation.

He had a nice, in control, 15 foot elbow pull up to slow the Heat momentum with just over a minute left. Not an exciting play, but something we have been missing during these late game collapses.

Marcus Smart would not have made that play.... he would have posted up behind the 3 point line or tried some difficult pass.

It was a breath of fresh air.
Exactly. Any time in the last 4 years that play ends up with the ball getting passed around the perimeter until someone iso'd and took a shit shot with the shot clock up their ass.

Butler fouled him and there was a delay in the blowing of the whistle. One of three things happened. They saw the initial foul they missed and sort of fudged it on review. They saw the initial foul and let it go until it was clear it was going to result in a back court violation (late whistle). Or they correctly saw the initial foul and it was just a late whistle.

In control is a great way to describe his game. And on top of that he was crashing the boards all night.

I’m almost more interested to see how the team looks against some softer competition now. They really struggled against some lower tier teams last year but it feels like they should be a blowout factory in those situations now. But you never know, teams always get up a little extra for the top dogs.

But the defense to offense transitions are going to beat fruit all season.

Early in the game when Jrue’s headband fell off I was almost certain a Celtic was going to step on it slip and somehow get injured.

Dude, this team is absolutely going to suffocate crappy teams. Of this I have zero doubt.

Jrue is similar to Smart...he really does everything just a little better

Marcus with 20 tonight, hope he continues to play well

Bam lived up to my assessment again. Missed everything that was even remotely contested. I’m dying on Bad Bam Hill.

Terrible job reffing on that Butler foul. WAY late on the whistle. Butler clearly hacked White, but they let it go so long that it was like, ok, they're not calling that, and only when White dribbled backcourt did they blow the whistle. That opened the door for a possible successful challenge by Miami. You see a foul, you call the foul. Very simple concept. I hate the "let's wait and see what the result of the play is before I blow the whistle" stuff.
They missed the first foul.. but butler also is pushing him after he fouled him.. his hand is on his hip until he goes over center court.. and then he tried to get the backcourt call.

It should also be said that both Hauser, who played very good defense, and Pritchard were effective tonight during their run. Some nights may demand a bit more but if they can just do that this team is fairly deep with the rest of the rotation.

Al Horford might have ended up the best Celtic with his D down the stretch. Tatum coming off the bench by the tourney!

Don't really agree. You can call a zillion fouls, or try to call them when they matter. It is not silly to call a foul on a late hack (that shouldn't work but does,,) and let them play on when it doesn't work
What play matters more than that one? It was a three point lead with less than a minute left.. call the foul and don’t wait to see if the player loses control of the ball..

That foul caused the backcourt violation. It’s indisputable.

This hasn’t been said in some time, but thank you Romeo

holy hell was that a heist
You know what's funny? You're exactly right, but the Spurs would still make that trade 10 out of 10 times. Zero chance they win the Wemby lottery if White were still there.

Quite the win-win trade.

This stood out to me too. He's just solid and makes the right play. Marcus had that in him but was much more mercurial and inconsistent. I hope that this attribute of Jrue's transfers to the Jays. My other thought was that he'd be lethal on the Heat and I'm very glad that they didn't make the deal.

Closing out 2 games against tough opponents is a very good sign. These guys barely know each other and you can see just how good they can be.

Yes now that I know that was the part of the play that was reviewed I agree....I just don't know how that part could be reviewed as it was action that occurred well before the actual backcourt and the whistle.

Thought it was interesting that the closing time lineup didn't have Zingas in it. It obviously worked and Horford gave no one a reason to doubt he still has the defensive chops, but still... interesting.

He fouled out, it wasn't by choice or design.

The primary piece of the trade was the pick that became Malaki Branham, who actually had a nice rookie campaign last year.
And who knows, that swap in 28’ could be valuable. But yeah, no regrets if you’re a Cs fan..

In essence, the Celtics traded a 2028 swap, a 2022 first rounder, and the 2017 number 1 overall pick for Jayson Tatum and Derrick White, yes?
