I mean if you can make a case for other players I’d like to read it.

City have been rotating so much it’s hard to see who else makes it. Maybe Martinelli over Rashford?

Cancelo over Shaw is an obvious one, and Rodri or Partey or Guimaraes all have good shouts over Casemiro for the defensive midfield role. I don't see what Varane has done that's so special, especially since he's only started 12 matches; Gabriel or one of the Newcastle CBs would be stronger picks. Kane deserves it more than Rashford unless you don't want two true CFs.

The team of the season so far is basically all Arsenal players. They’ve been phenomenal. I think you can argue for xhaka and Partey. Martinelli for sure. Ramsdale. They’re dominating teams.

Almiron belongs. Kane or Toney or both. Rodri has been better than Casemiro. I think Salah still has a claim

Salah is a shell of himself.

Metrics say Alisson. He’s been phenomenal and probably the only reason Liverpool are in the top half. He’s had a howler, to be sure, but he’s been dominant.

Hasn’t Cancelo essentially been benched?

And yeah, I mean obviously I’m biased. When Varane has played the team has conceded 5 goals in 1200 minutes though to be honest I’m not sure how many minutes are Premier League as he didn’t start the season and was hurt for some.

I can’t say I’ve watched as many city games as United (really, if anyone has enough time to watch their team plus multiple other games in a game week, more power to you), but Casemiro is our player of the year so far and fixed the midfield overnight. Rodri looks like a great player from what I’ve seen but I’m not sure how you can say Rodri has been better.

I always go 433 but yeah Kane, Toney. Sure. It’s hard to make 11

Or you can just name 11 arsenal players and be boring Teddy.

Here’s an XI with an eye on stats from WhoScored and FBRef:

Allison

Trippier - Saliba - Mee - Cancelo

Rodri

KDB - Odegaard

Saka - Haaland - Martinelli

Cancelo doesn’t belong he’s been awful since the WC and was only Ok before. It’s a problem position in the entire league really and a lot of rotation.

In reality few City players belong this year but Rodri would be one of them. I also think probably Joelinton and Guimaraes belong as Newcastle have been great and they’ve been the engine room

That’s great.

First gut reaction was KDB doesn’t belong. I guess the numbers are strong enough but he doesn’t pass the eye test. He’s not pulling the strings like he can. I’m not sure who gets in over him though, which is a roundabout way of saying I guess he does belong. Maybe Trossard, Almiron

Wrexham-Sheffield replay going on now. It's 1-1 in the 73rd minute.

And Wrexham had a PK saved.

Based on what I've picked up (haven't been able to completely focus on it), only 5 of the Wrexham starters are players considered in their top 11.

Goal, Sheffield United....

Man, that defender is gonna have a rough night...ball through his legs leading to the breakaway.

That was National League defending at its best.

Credit to Wrexham, they looked worthy of the win for long stretches, but the inability to close out last match at home still haunts them.
