Ok, so Trump released a statement earlier saying Manfred and Randy Levine invited him. Now Maggie Haberman of the NYT is saying Trump invited himself.

Edit. Just wanted to correct my last post with this one. No more politics.

What a different world to have a guy making his first Major League start in the World Series and expected to go two or three maybe tops.

Write the story Dylan Lee and have a night!

Dylan Lee is starting for Atlanta. 1st pitcher to make his 1st career start in the World Series.
More great factoids from Joe Sheehan:
Zack Greinke has more Cy Young Awards than Lee has major-league starts. Greinke has hit more career homers than Lee has innings pitched. Lee is one of a handful of active pitchers with two or fewer career regular season innings. Greinke leads all active pitchers and is in fact the only active pitcher with more than 3,000 innings pitched. I doubt we’ll ever see another game like this.

Jason Castro is off the Astros roster with a positive Covid-19 test. Has Fox mentioned that?
Edit: the language does not say positive test, it says off b/c of "Covid protocols." Can be cleared to return, unlike an injured player. So maybe it's contact?

According to ESPN's gamecast, the first pitch to Alvarez was a strike, and the 2nd and fourth were borderline. Also it shows that pitches 1, 2, and 5 to Brantley were strikes. It shows that the 2nd pitch to Brantley was called a ball and the 3rd pitch was in exactly the same spot and called a strike.

So an IF single and two walks that appear (by ESPN's gamecast) to be loaded with missed calls by the ump.

Accurate?

Want to speed up the game? Start calling these pitches strikes.
I haven't been watching the game live. Were they strikes? ESPN's gamecast thinks they were. Some by pretty considerable margins.

If so, then Lee got totally screwed by the umps.

GameDay says Ball 4 to Brantley and Ball 1 to Alvarez were right on the edge of the zone. The rest weren't.

The Astors score one whopping run and don't even get the ball out of the infield.

Their bats have fallen asleep.

I've seen this movie before.

If he was getting the borderline calls, everyone would be saying how Lee is coming out and painting. But he doesn't get them, so he's wild and they have to pull him.

If Atlanta had Jake Pivetta this would be a much different game.
I don't know Jake (although I'm sure he's an asset).

Most soshers didn't give Pivetta the benefit of the doubt until after he was called on in extra innings. Expectations were pretty low for every starter except Eovaldi and Sale.

Sale didn't exactly meet expectations, but the rest overperformed.

Buck, "Despite being a left-handed hitter..." What? Ah, reverse split.
