    Red Sox acquire Fernando Abad

Abad's got some flaws, and like others I've got a soft spot for Light... but with the price of relievers on the market, Dombrowski found excellent value here.

    Sox get Kimbrel

Sure, it feels like an overpay, but the outfield is incredibly crowded and Margot projects as a leadoff guy. DD knows baseball ops, he can evaluate talent like few others in the game. I don't think he's come up short on too many trades.

2016: Corner Infield and Corner OF

It seems incredibly presumptuous to say Hanley is poor at reading fly balls because of a lack of focus. He just doesn't seem to have the aptitude. Why would he be so bad at 1B? It doesn't require as quick reactions, long throws, pivoting for double plays...seems like it fits his skillset

    Bradley: Deal with It.

His history seems to show that it's rare for him to bet on the wrong guy.

    The Case Against Moving Hanley

Dombrowski is the same guy that put Miguel Cabrera at third and Prince Fielder at 1st right? It wasn't until he had to make a move that he dealt a ton of Fielder's contract for Kinsler. Hanley has been a disaster in LF, why not slide him further down the defensive spectrum... And put him back...

2016: Corner Infield and Corner OF

He wouldn't be able to reduce his deal unless he got something of value in return, ala A-Rod (his right to the Red Sox brand in licensing was not considered enough even though I think he could have made a ton of money with it.)   No way they would let Sandoval reduce his deal, no way he would...

Red Sox announce Dave Dombrowski is their new president of baseball operations.

Maybe, but he makes around twice as much as any other Oriole and is probably limited to DH. We'd have to pay half his salary wouldn't we? They's set at SS and 3B. We know Hanley is a terrible left fielder and, while Chris Davis looks to be leaving via FA as the only real FA 1B set to enter the...

The New Red Sox GM Discussion

Maybe you're right, but I assume Jeb and Theo's friendship and trust make for an atypical example. Perhaps they weren't a good one to use.  I just don't think an ambitious GM would stay for very long as a top assistant. I'm not confused by the title change. Dombrowski is the man in charge...

Bright spots in an otherwise lost season

Does anyone else worry that our top three outfielders (not counting Hanley) might have profiles that are a little too similar? Castillo, Betts and JBJ seem like decent hitters and good fielders without a lot of pop or wow factor at the plate. If a team was trying to increase their offensive...

The New Red Sox GM Discussion

I can't imagine that we'd expect a young GM to stick around 10 years without more autonomy as the major voice in baseball ops. With a lot of organizations they have a system like we've had. A team president who has a say and sometimes meddles and a GM who has the loudest baseball operations...

The New Red Sox GM Discussion

Dan O'Dowd and Wren are just terrible. How are they under consideration? Are they really good at non-critical baseball ops duties while Dombrowski steers the ship?

Michael Chavis, SS: 2014 MLB Draft 26th overall

Well, isn't he a little young for the Sally league? Certainly he's showing encouraging signs of life, but it could be a while before we really have any idea what his future holds.

Red Sox announce Dave Dombrowski is their new president of baseball operations.

I just can't see Henry having second thoughts about sabermetrics. He was one of the early believers. He's seen it work.    Henry probably just sees what a lot of us see, a fundamentally solid approach to baseball ops with terrible execution stemming from a weak pro personnel department. DD is...

If you mean Verlander and Cabrera, then yeah. People would probably care about that... even if it means getting rid of Hanley and Sandoval.

One would hope he's got the inside track at the GM job. Presumably Henry has been thinking about this Dombrowski idea for a while.
