    Divisional Round Weekend

In there are good people in the world news, a lot of people came out in support of Bass by donating to his charity of choice. https://www.upi.com/Sports_News/NFL/2024/01/23/Bills-kicker-support-fans-cat-charity-Tyler-Bass/6351706017945/ Hundreds of donations continued to flow into the...

    Divisional Round Weekend

Hard for me to understand someone who lived through 2003 and everything that led up to it taking delight in the suffering of another fan base. A friend of mine was at the game and said there was a sound in the stadium after Bass missed the field goal that he had never heard at a sporting event...

    Wild Card Weekend

The slide rule isn't QB specific. Any runner can slide. https://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/nfl-video-rulebook/down-by-contact/#:~:text=sliding%20feet%2Dfirst%20on%20the,his%20hands%20or%20his%20feet. when a runner declares himself down by: falling to the ground, or kneeling, and clearly...

    Wild Card Weekend

The NFL is already ridiculously over officiated. If the refs are going to start deliberating on whether a runner's movement is a juke or the start of a fake slide the game is going to be unwatchable. IMO football needs far fewer penalties not more. I'd be all for getting rid of all the...

    2023 San Francisco 49ers.

As CMC is out with an injury this week, he will finish the season with 1459 rushing yards and 564 receiving yards for a total of 2023 yards from scrimmage. This is the first time in NFL history that a player will finish with the same number of yards from scrimmage as the calendar year.

I teach time series occasionally. This is nonsense.

    Week 11

There may of course be a seasonal effect but there is 100% nothing in that annual data set to detect this effect. Seasonality would be detected through monthly or weekly data over several years. I thought it was generally accepted that offensive numbers declined over the season due to...

    Week 11

There is no seasonality in that data set. Those points are aggregated to a full season. If you want to investigate seasonality you need to look at monthly or weekly numbers. I don't know why one would expect a cyclical effect. Rule changes? There is no real way to know whether the declines...

    Week 11

It is very easy to check for a trend over time. Fit a regression line and test if the slope is zero. Eyeballing that data set I'd guess you can make an argument that there is (is not) a trend depending on what variable you use and which year you choose as a starting point.

    NFL: News and transactions

The players love McDermott. He completely changed the culture of one of the worst franchises of this century and took them to the playoffs in 5 of his 6 years after a 19 year drought consisting of awful awful football. He's a former football player and wrestler. Not a faux tough guy just no...
