Exactly. I don’t remember this much analysis of Gordon’s decision when he left a better team in Utah to come to Boston in the first place. It’s a fool’s errand to try to figure out what drives these decisions when we know so little about them personally or what their motivations are.

This is almost assuredly about creating stability in the organization and avoiding the persistent narrative that PG and Kawhi could bail at the end of the year. Keeps George out of trade discussions for the rest of the season as well, which should help.

I agree. It’s bad cap management to waive Batum but it’s not damaging from a cost perspective. He was getting $27 million to not play for the Hornets anyways so whether it’s one or three years is kind of irrelevant, especially if the team isn’t expecting to have meaningful cap space over that...

I kind of get 2006 Heat vibes from this Lakers team, where it’s two superstars, one of whom is older and then a core of competent veteran pieces. That team fell off a cliff quick when Shaq aged out and the vets got complacent after their title. Maybe the Lakers will meet the same fate.

With the possible exception of Crowder, Thompson is better than anyone on that list.
