Corey Rosier promoted to AAA.

View: https://twitter.com/Hunter_Noll/status/1671954651837595658?cxt=HHwWlIC89bf5_LMuAAAA

I was seeing speculation that it might be Rafaela because they only had like 11 active hitters at Worcester & 2 are hurt (Valdez/Sogard), but looks like they chose Rosier instead.

Rosier is 23 & was acquired along with Eric Hosmer & Max Ferguson in the Jay Groome trade.

Groome has a 9.80 ERA & 2.263 ERA in AAA this year in the Padres organization.

Ferguson is 23 & in A+ ball doing not much other than stealing bases (23 of 27). He was 61 of 66 last year, though
Not doing much...except getting called up to AAA...

I assume this is due to a player shortage & lack of desire to jerk around their more important prospects.

When did mlbtv start streaming MiLB games too?
That stadium in Portland looks like a fantastic place to watch a game.

Dobbins through 5. I assume he’s done as he’s around 95 pitches. Velocity worked its way to 95-96. One pitch hit 97. FB had good run on it. He really turns it over. Threw a few curves in the 5th that didn’t draw any swings but froze a couple batters. He’ll need to add a little more depth to the curve if it’s going to be a plus pitch in MLB. He had some bad babip luck in the 4th, leading to his 1 ER. This included a DP ball that was hit too slow. Runner may have been out anyway. No hard contact in the few innings I watched him pitch.

5 innings
1 R
1ER
3 H (bad luck)
3 BB
5 K

After a pretty slow start this has been one of the best MILB seasons up and down the system I can remember, even down to guys like Murphy and Walter somehow improving upon stepping up to the bigs.

Yeah, AAA has been a bit rough, but otherwise it's been pretty awesome at all levels for a while now.

If guys like Wikelman & Perales earn promotions in the next month or so, that would be pretty exciting, too.

Yep. Checking box scores has become a nightly ritual. But seriously, between AA and AAA, where are they going to play all of these infielders?

Bonaci
Jordan
Meidroth
Mayer
Rafaela*
Yorke

Anyone thinking Bloom needs to go needs to be forced to read this thread 10x’s as penance.

I think that the logic of drafting infielders is that, as coming up, most elite players are going to play the highest skill positions. Their skills are going to be easier to transfer elsewhere giving the team a lot more organization flexibility. Given 3B is covered for quite a long time and that 2B probably falls into that bucket with a bit less certainty, this gives them a few nice lottery tickets at finding our SS for the next seasons and allows the Sox to fill out their outfield (atleast depth-wise) internally.

I'm as big of a Braze fanboy as you'll find but where the hell will be play if Casas works out? He's going to have to absolutely mash over the next few years otherwise he's probably trade fodder.

Hopefully a good problem to have. At some point, if this depth maintains, Chaim will need to convert some prospects to MLB talent. Hopefully, he picks the right ones.

The dream is to have such a steady progression that the prospects are the MLB talent, but yeah, we'll see how it all plays out.

Don't think anyone posted this, but I guess our A+ team, the Greenville Drive, have won the 1st half of the season & clinched a playoff spot.

Today's Minor League starters...

AAA - Jake Faria

Faria turns 30 next month. He was originally drafted by the Rays in the 10th round in 2011 & in 2017 rose to 8th in the Rays prospect rankings (Baseball America).

In his 1st Major League start in July 2017, he allowed 1 run in 6.1 innings & he became the 9th pitcher in MLB history to begin his career with 7 or more QS. He ended the season Ruth a 3.43 ERA in 16 starts.

It's been all downhill from there, though, as he battle oblique injuries in Tampa, was traded to the Brewers, & then kicked around the Angels, DBacks & Twins, with poor results in each stop.

The Red Sox acquired him as a minor league free agent in February. He spent one day on the Major League roster when Chris Martin was injured but did not pitch. He cleared waivers & returned to Worcester.

He has a 5.86 ERA in 43 innings over 16 games (6 starts). His main issue seems to be that he is walking 5 per 9 IP.

Faria, who is of Portuguese & Cuban descent, had 1.6 bWAR in his rookie reason...& -0.6 bWAR since.

He is from CA & currently lives in Las Vegas during the off season with his wife of 4 years, Jess.

AA - Brian Van Belle

BVB, 26, is 6'3 & attended the University of Miami after some time at Broward College & went undrafted in the truncated 2020 draft. He signed with Red Sox for a $20k signing bonus & started the '21 season in High A Greenville.

He had 18 starts with a 4.10 ERA, & started '22, his age 25 season, still in A+. Despite poor results (6.14 ERA), he was promoted to AA Portland where he found a bit more success, logging a 4.69 ERA in 15 starts (16 games). 80 k's & 12 bb in 78.1 IP. He led all Red Sox minor leaguers with 130.1 IP last year, just ahead of Chris Murphy.

He started this season in Portland where, despite doubling his bb rate while decreasing his k rate, he has put together a solid season - 2.70 ERA in 70 IP. He has drastically reduced opponent's BABIP & home run rate.

BVB is currently #59 on the Sox Prospects top 60 & has been solid lately.

View: https://twitter.com/Gavin_Kahn/status/1670525529387089923

I'm guessing he changed something significant to completely change his profile this season, but not really sure what.

He has not changed his girlfriend lately. He has been dating Adriana for 7 years.

Turns 27 in September, but may be able to eventually become usable swing depth, especially if he can get his walk rates back down while harnessing whatever he has figured out.

A+ - Angel Bastardo

Angel was signed as an IFA in July 2018 for $35k. Bastardo is from Morón, Venezuela. Good fastball/curveball but needs to improve his change up if he wants to continue on a starter path.

Has moved up 1 level per applicable year:

'19 - DSL Red Sox, 3.71 ERA in 51 IP (17 y/o)
'20 - No season
'21 - FCL Red Sox, 6.67 ERA in 29.2 IP (19)
'22 - Salem Red Sox (A), 4.50 ERA in 82 IP (20)
'23 - Greenville Drive (A+), 4.14 ERA in 58.2 IP (21)

Has some nice looking stuff:

View: https://twitter.com/redsoxstats/status/1649569642615037954

Started off the season slow, but even then had an elite whiff rate.

View: https://twitter.com/drivetofenway/status/1656683723524386816

Strikes out 11.7 per 9 IP, but walks 4.4. If he can improve his control, could easily be a multi inning bullpen arm in a few years. Currently #36 on SoxProspects top 60.

A - Luis Perales

Based on everything I've read, Perales has the highest upside of any pitcher in the org.

Perales, who recently turned 20, is 6'1 & from Guacara, Venezuela. He signed in 2019 as an IFA for $75k.

With the lack of a 2020 season, his 1st official Red Sox action was 2 innings in '21 for the DSL Red Sox... before getting injured & bring our for the season.

They took it very carefully with him in '22, not letting him pitch more than 3 innings per game. He had 50 strikeouts in 34.2 IP between the FCL & Salem.

Perales got off to a slow start, leading to his current 4.06 ERA in 37.2 IP but he has been crushing it lately.

Similar k & bb rates to Bastardo (11.7/5.0).

Pretty exciting upside potential. Control & improving his secondary pitches will be key. #8 on SoxProspects top 60.

DSL Red Sox Blue - Ricardo Rodriguez

RickRod, 17, was signed as an IFA by the Red Sox in January for $50k & is from Maracay, Venezuela.

He is a 6'0 righty who allowed 7 runs over 6.2 IP in his 1st 2 starts.

Today, Rodriguez pitched 4 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits & a walk, picking up 4 k's in a game DSL Blue eventually won 2-1 in 10 innings.

DSL Red won 12-1 btw, despite only 7 hits (13 walks).

Just from reading this thread I feel like the 2026 or 2027 Red Sox have a chance to go undefeated.

& decided to learn more about Caleb Bolden.

Went to TCU & was a 7th round pick last draft. Already 24. Was drafted for saving $ against slot purposes it would seem...$7,500 signing bonus.

If they can get something out of a guy for that cheap, that would be fun, but he's obviously old for A ball. Has pitched 2 1/3 scoreless in relief of Perales so far today with 5 k's & has allowed 1 base runner. ERA down to 3.66.

Sorry, should I tone it down?
NO! I really appreciate your updates. It wasn't a knock on you, it's just (guarded) excitement about the state of the Sox's farm system. Please keep it up -- you're doing SoSH a real service.

Here's your 1% bad...

Jake Faria allowed 7 earned runs in 2 1/3 IP on 7 hits & 4 walks.

On the good side...Taylor Broadway & Oddanier Mosqueda have combined for 4 2/3 scoreless innings & the WooSox have taken an 8-7 lead through 7.

It seems like the problem with calling up some of these relievers who may be better than the ones they currently have on the roster is that they would want to find a way to keep them on the 40 & not subject them to waivers, which is hard when you basically have 47 people on the 40-man with all the 60-day DL guys (Story, Mondesi, Chang, Sale, Schreiber, Kelly, Mills).

They actually do seem to have 1 open spot right now, but maybe it's because they expect someone to come off the 60 soon & don't want to subject anyone else to waivers?

Not since we had whoever that poster was who did daily breakdowns of the minor league games - have we seen so much depth presented about our farm team.

@JM3 I salute you! Loving what you’re doing.
