Yankees are going to be kicking their own asses in September when they miss the playoffs because they couldn't beat the Red Sox

What...Alex Spier hasn't posted that yet?
That is @Brand Name territory now

Some PBP data is almost assuredly missing but using some Stathead tools, couldn't find any such Red Sox inning that precisely matches this since at least 1914 of what they have on file, presuming I did this right.

From there, though, I did find one neat game that comes close: August 10, 1995, bottom of the 3rd. Canseco hits a leadoff homer, Greenwell triples, and with Troy O'Leary batting, Scott Erickson balks him in.

I don’t care what the standings are, it’s always a good feeling to beat these assholes.

Can't guarantee him a lead to protect in game 2?

Freaking awesome work by the non-Ort members of the pen this game.
Hell, even ort. Didn't blow the game up. That's two innings that someone good didn't have to pitch.

Tell me again why we had to use our best reliever with a four-run lead?
I guess the thought is let's get this one in the bag and worry about the second game later, as opposed to letting a crappy reliever give up a couple of runs, then you need to use the good reliever anyway, and maybe even lose this game, then ruin your bullpen for game 2 as well?

It's not terrible reasoning.

No one should care. Mookie wanted to test free agency, the Red Sox traded him, the pandemic happened, and Mookie still got a longer contract than the Sox were likely to offer.
It’s not a lament. Just interesting/ironic considering the Sox’ problems at SS.

According to posts 74-75 in this thread, Dokes was "letting it ride" if they won Game 1

Game 72
Though Saturday’s rainout left some fans sad,
a Father’s Day Double-Header is rad.
Game 1’s in the books. A win! The Sox, clad
in their yellow jerseys, once again had
6 or more runs. (It’s a fun 4-game fad.)
Ort’s start was solid. He struggled a tad.
Murphy was magic. We’re loving this lad.
Down 2, but not worried, even a scad,
we tied in the 5TH then went on to add
3 in the 6Th. In the 7th, we’d pad
our lead with a balk. This made the Sox glad.
(New York fans felt they’d been kicked in a nad.)
Pivetta came in. He’s far from the cad
he was as a starter. Now, he’s not bad!
(His curveball no longer hangs like a chad.)
Coldplay closed it out, making Yankees mad.
Took the first two of this rainy triad.
Let’s sweep the series. Let’s win it for Dad!
